U of M To Indoctrinate Detroit High Schoolers

Your tax dollars will be used to create the next generation of hard left social justice warriors.

The University of Michigan will open a new quasi charter public high school in partnership with the Detroit Public Schools Community District this Fall. The School at Marygrove will focus on social justice and engineering.  Mostly social justice. The Kresge Foundation is also involved in the school, presumably underwriting some of its finances.

The school will be situated in the former Marygrove College Liberal Arts Building at Wyoming and McNichols in Detroit:

Marygrove College was an esteemed Catholic post secondary education institution which was driven into the ground by Catholic social justice warriors over the last decade. It will be closing its doors just as the latest effort of the secular social justice warriors commences.  The left is nothing, if not determined.

UMich social justice agenda is now ‘spreading beyond’ campus

* The School at Marygrove, the product of a partnership between the University of Michigan and the Detroit Public Schools Community District, will open this fall.
* National Association of Scholars President Peter Wood had a few things to say about the initiative.

The University of Michigan is opening a “social justice-themed” high school in partnership with Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) in the fall.

The School at Marygrove will focus on social justice and engineering, according to The Michigan Daily.

“Teaching that as young as high school or even younger is really empowering for them”
DPSCD spokeswoman Chrystal Wilson said that the “social justice-themed” School at Marygrove “has been designed to develop critical thinkers and community-minded citizens who have the skills and knowledge to be makers and leaders creating a more just and equitable future,” reported the Michigan Daily.

The university has assisted the school district in picking teachers and creating curriculum.

Graduates from UMich’s School of Education undergraduate and graduate programs will also assist in teaching the high schoolers via a “teaching residency program.” One University of Michigan education senior told the student newspaper that social justice is a key part of her coursework leading her to become a teacher.

“It’s so important for students to have the ability to be an advocate, not only for themselves but for people in their community or people around the world,” Hannah Whitman said. “Teaching that as young as high school or even younger is really empowering for them.”

Peter Wood, president of the National Association of Scholars, told Campus Reform that the university is attempting to sway high schoolers toward one political ideology through social justice.

UMich “wants to establish the doctrine of ‘social justice’ in the minds of ninth-grade students in Detroit,” Wood said. “It is deeply disturbing that the ‘social justice’ ideology is spreading beyond the universities to the public schools.”

“One can understand why the Detroit Public Schools are willing to accept an offer of help from the University of Michigan,” Wood said. “The Detroit school system is one of the worst in the country and it is easy to imagine that any new investment could only make things a little better. But, in fact, there are always ways to make a bad situation worse. The School at Marygrove looks like an attempt to prove that point.”

The engineering education secondary theme of this school is just bait to get wary Detroit parents to turn their children over to the control of a bunch of snotty elitists.  A despicable ploy to take advantage of the desperation of parents with bright children trapped in the never fixed Detroit Public School Community District.

You are looking at the next generation of left wing screwballs in the making.

On our dime.

I'd love to see the faces of the SJW faculty when then finally get to interact with the current iteration of what SJW policies have wrought.

Student inability to read at grade level. Unwillingness to attend classes on a regular basis. And the insubordination...

So, will the SJWs be teaching the Detroit schoolchildren that the Democratic Party was the architects of the KKK, segregation and opposing civil rights?

I imagine the staff and readership of this publication would prefer a program of social injustice.

Oh, wait! We’ve had that since the 1600s. And for you to reinforce what Detroit kids already have, you’d have to set foot south of Eight Mile. Might muss your Brooks Bros. suits and catch what neither Obama nor Trump ever risks: seeing the real domestic impact of rapacious corporate capitalism.

I worked with teachers and students in nine Detroit high schools. I didn’t hear them calling out for sneering reactionaries. Maybe they had their fill after Betsy Devos.

Even the Subaru you drive. (yes we all know you drive a Subaru) is a product of "rapacious corporate capitalism" LOL!

Social injustice? You mean actually applying the laws where they need to be applied? Sure thing Comrade. Damn straight, and make no mistake about it. I lock the doors to my home, and I'll bet you do as well. I also peel off leeches after a good swim in a murky creek. I prefer not to go through the healing process of being bled.

      Glad you could join us.

So you are promoting political indoctrination on the taxpayer's dime? You do realize that this will cut both ways, that there will be a response in districts which do not share your NPC views?

Your end game is political segregation and dissolution. The problem then for the left is that they will wind up dominating only in economic wastelands like Detroit.

      "Social injustice"?

I don't know what rock you've been living under for nearly sixty years, Mr. Goldenberg, but Detroiters have had carte blanche to impose the very same democratic progressive, socialist agenda you're so keen to promote.

And exactly what do they have to show for it?

Test scores so low that they are criminal. Chronic absenteeism. Billions in bonds floated to fix...what? A district so inept, so corrupt, that they mismanaged itself into bankruptcy.

Not to fear! We'll just have those living north of 8 Mile foot the bill.

And if we get to play our cards right, we'll get to do the very same thing again real soon!

Oh, wait! Let me guess! Your version of this socialist utopia just hasn't been implemented the right way yet.

      Oh, well...try, try again!
