How Did We Ever Survive Without Zoning?

So .. In Lansing, there is great ballyhoo about Lansing “returning zoning power to the local governments.”

All well and fine .. but

There was a time when homes were built by families with sweat, timber, and willpower. Before the advent of bureaucratic overreach, people lived in homes they designed, worked in businesses they created, and adapted their communities through mutual interest and common sense. Today, we’re told we cannot build like our parents did. We’re trapped in a maze of restrictive zoning laws enabled by the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act (MZEA) of 2006—a law that stifles private property rights, innovation, and natural development.

As a real estate agent working in Northern Michigan, I see firsthand the impact of these constraints. Buyers are fighting for affordability while sellers—who must often become buyers again—face a new market skewed by government-imposed scarcity. My goal is to ensure both sides find the best value, despite a system that increasingly works against them.

Economics is more than Money - Michigan is still relevant.

I have always been a free market guy. But..  Sometimes it’s more than that.

In the 1940s, Michigan stood tall as the arsenal of democracy. Factories from Detroit to Lansing didn’t just build cars—they became the beating heart of the world’s greatest war machine. General Motors alone cranked out 206,000 aircraft engines, over 13,000 Navy planes, 38,000 tanks, and more than 850,000 military trucks. This was more than manufacturing—it was an industrial miracle powered by resources we had right here at home, by skilled workers, and yes—by the original Rosie the Riveters who stepped up when America needed them most.

Michigan was ready. Our factories could pivot. Our people were trained. Even years later, one of my brothers, combing through a closed Oldsmobile plant in Lansing during the 1980s, stumbled upon engineering drawings—blueprints—for fighter aircraft tucked away on the factory floor. That legacy wasn’t just steel and grease—it was readiness. Cool stuff.

Fast-forward to today, and the picture is starkly different.

Some Questions

Gee ..why did Democrats wait until AFTER the election to put this crap out there??

Got one of Adam’s heads up messages via the in-box a few minutes ago.

He notes the Lame Duck Democrats are trying to get something ..anything passed during the most dangerous time in a legislative session. He says:

But the only way the Democrats can pass all of these extreme bills is with 100% unanimous Democrat votes . . . or Republicans crossing over to vote with them.

Even if you’ve already done so, contact your lawmakers immediately and tell them to vote NO on ALL Lame-Duck legislation.

Democrats know how unpopular their extremist bills are. That’s why they didn’t take the votes before the election – and in many cases noted above, didn’t even introduce the bills until after the election.

But it’s critical you and I keep up the pressure.

There is ABSOLUTELY no reason why this year’s election, especially the gubernatorial portion here in Michigan, shouldn’t be anything more than a formality this November.

After all of the Wuhan virus induced fear mongering has been exposed for the charade in which it truly was, destroying our economy & disrupting the lives of most Americans, Team-d has nothing to run with.

However, if the Republican kakistocracy has its way, it looks like they will be pulling the same stupid trick they used in 2018 in order to get Gretchen Whitmer re-elected again in 2022!

There is something distinctly un-Canadian about not being civil.

It’s distressing to state publicly that a republic which has at its core foundation a freedom of not only speech, but of the press as well, having no compunctions seeing those two bedrock principles quickly being twisted into ersatz versions of themselves. Worse yet, no one seeming to care.

But, what else did you expect when people in power are not only challenged, by are visible threatened by those challengers?

Work Where They Appreciate You

Take this mandate and shove it ..

A Friend passed this along.

It’s a job board for those who wish to work where they can be free of the fear mongering promoted by our government.  Employees can pass along that they are hiring, and don’t require you to endanger yourself in order to put food on your table.  Prospective employees can post a resume or use the search feature to find a decent place to work.

There is even an example letter to give your boss if he/she/it is threatening you with termination over a mandate.
