MDOT: Does Governor Snyder Have a Cousin in Railroads too!?!?
by Corinthian Scales • • 16 Comments
MDOT is a gift that keeps on giving fodder against a 16.7% sales tax hike scheme.
The State of Michigan is paying $1.1 million a year to lease 23 passenger rail cars it can’t use — and likely won’t use for at least another two years — as the taxpayer tab for the troubled project approaches $12 million and counting.
The 1950s and ’60s-era double-decker cars are sitting in a rail yard in Owosso, where they are expected to remain for the indefinite future.
The Michigan Department of Transportation started leasing the cars in 2010 for two commuter rail passenger services proposed between Detroit and Ann Arbor, and Howell and Ann Arbor.
….Sen. Goeff Hansen, R-Hart, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, said he doesn’t want to say much until he has more information on the contract. The deal was signed during the administration of former Gov. Jennifer Granholm, a Democrat, but amended four times during the administration of Snyder, a Republican — each time to increase the contract’s maximum cost.
Interesting, yes? Speaks volumes how the players on Team R continue to dare not speak out of turn about their beloved Party leader, yes?
What’s even more interesting is the owner, Louis P. Ferris, Jr., who has been networking with the Peoples Republic of Ann Arbor’s Socialist former mayor for the past decade.
P3 projects. Public funds. Private profit. Partnership to extort our money by force of government bureaucrats.
Asked whether he can find $1.2 billion in the state’s $52 billion total budget (federal & state funds), @onetoughnerd simply replies: “No.”

No? But of course, Mr. Transparent.

Pusillanimous, who apparently has now decided to punt to voters too, has its followers, and its name is… Prevailing Wage.
@rstudley The Senate plan was much better. However since that’s over let’s all support the ballot proposal in May.

This seems to be on the right track, yes?
For MI #smallbiz the Senate gas tax proposal will hurt the bottom line and jeopardize Michigan’s economic recovery. http://t.co/L8zG06oTz6

So, what happens if HB 5477 now becomes extended by two years, the already sales tax portion is gradually dedicated for road maintenance over same period with Wholesale sales tax increasing to 7% (Rack Price) and MDOT controlling said taxation thereafter?
Cudos to Speaker Bolger @JaseBolger for thinking outside the “gas tax box” to raise more revenue for roads! http://t.co/qTJ93zReEd

We urge State Reps to carefully study bi-partisan Senate plan to fix the roads & improve public transit. Big problems need big solutions.

Poof! PFM!
The average price of gas in Michigan is $ 3.10 a gallon for regular while the average is $3.06 in the metropolitan Detroit area.
In Monroe, gas has been hovering as low as $ 2.85 this week.
Ms. Hiltz sees the trend in prices declining throughout November and into December, and said it is possible for the state average to drop below $ 3, which hasn’t happened since 2010.
Notice how many in the linked article have been so conditioned that they’re *thankful* gas is around $3 when just a decade ago it was $1.44 a gallon? Sheeple were made to be shorn.
Keep that in mind for the Lame Duck in Lansing, if/when the Nerd is unleashed with his wholesale tax agenda & registration fee hike.

Now a brief message from the Michigan Automobile Dealers Associations’ schwantz-swallower.
Didja catch that? “It doesn’t change current law at all”. And, he stared us in the eye saying that. So, why is the legislature frivolously wasting our tax dollars writing Law that does nothing? More Snyder lies. Second point, if it had such “strong legislative support. The House vote was 106 to 1, the Senate vote 38 to nothing,” then what the f**k is this veto?
I have to give Snyder credit for one thing, he’s consistent – a consistently lying a**hole. Snyder knows it, and WE ALL KNOW IT.
Thanks, Rep. McMillin, for being the lone champion of free markets.

What is it with Rick Snyder, and all these no-bid contracts that surround him? If it’s not Wisconsin’s rejected trains, then it’s his cousin’s furniture contract. Now, we have another no-bid contract driven by Snyder’s Medicaid Expansion.
But a Snyder administration official said the timing “was a coincidence” as the contract increase had been in the works for more than a month before the governor’s fundraise at the Muslim Unity Center.
See that? Yet, another Snyder related “coincidence”.
Campaign finance records show the Shaya family, which owns and operates the J & B Medical Supply, has donated more than $65,000 to Snyder’s campaign over two election cycles. On June 9, the family threw a fundraiser for Snyder that cost more than $19,000 — the most expensive shindig for the governor this election cycle — and generated nearly $74,000 in campaign cash, records show.
That doesn’t look too good, does it?
Donors included former state Sen. Loren Bennett, contract manager for J & B Medical. Bennett and two other company officials did not return messages Monday seeking comment.
Ho, ho, ho, look at what slithered out here. Dick Posthumus’ old toady. Yes, the same Bennett who not long ago said, “Michigan’s 11th Congressional District faces an unusual situation, as its incumbent congressman failed to get enough petition signatures to qualify for the ballot — thus denying Republicans in the district a qualified nominee”. Loren is a real piece of work, yes? Thank God, Bentivolio was sent to Washington, and not that corruptocrat ☞
So, what’s a Nerd supposed to do when caught in another no-bid series of contracts that netted him $93,000 worth of re-election freebies? Use his playbook on deflection.
“People are trying to make something out of it,” Snyder said. “Basically, they’ve had an agreement with the state going back to before when I was governor. Healthy Michigan (Medicaid expansion) has been going so well, we needed to keep things going.”
Wait a minute, I thought Snyder said he didn’t blame others. So, the Democrats “are trying to make something out of it”? Really? Well, let’s see…

Why not? Rick Snyder has been campaigning for Debbie Dingell, so, good luck with that.
