The 'other' definition of "force" once again rears its ugly head.
The logical conclusion to an over applied nanny state is the use of violence to prevent one from hurting oneself.
The Stings are on. Grants to step up ‘enforcement’ (key use of words here) have been doled out. Click on Detroit says:
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in a mandatory seat belt enforcement grant beginning May 23-June 5.
Take the money, or else.
Indeed. Click it, or we’ll put a gun to your head to save your life. As Michigan goes into the high travel Memorial Day weekend, the stage is set once again to punish those who tempt fate by not strapping in. In Macomb County they want to do it the nice way:
Extra patrols start Monday and continue through June 5 as part of the latest “Click it or Ticket” campaign, targeting motorists who are not wearing seat belts.
“Our primary goal is always to encourage voluntary compliance with the law. For those drivers who do not comply, our deputies will deliver warnings or issue violations as the circumstances dictate,” Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said.
However, the Thin Blue Line sure do get their panties in a bunch, don’t they? So, who is forcing any of them to become LEO? Nobody. Does anybody ever see LEO lobbying our Lansingcritters to get rid of such money-grab “laws” as Click-it or Ticket? Hell no. Actually, LEO is behind most of our invasive quick-buck “laws” because they’re the departmental arm who provide Tough On Crime™ campaign propaganda for our Lansingcritters as well as elected Municritters. Perhaps, the alleged doctor should’ve directed some of his frustration there, too.
Ps. Mrs. Russell, go find something better to do with your life other than playing sensationalized “gotchya games” with Private Citizen’s employment because your daddy was Redford Po-po. WXYZ should know better than to air such crap. Seriously, some dude rationalizing a hypothetical scenario when he’s frustrated with a frivolous money-grab stop is a whole world of difference from when LEO loses their shit.
Never happy enough with mere taxation and over burdening regulatory efforts, state officials want to remind you who is boss.
Michigan State Police are stepping up efforts to imprint their thumbs on Michigan motorists this coming holiday weekend.
Ever since the seat belt legislation was foisted upon a gullible electorate, millions of dollars have been used to cajole, threaten, and punish drivers who have threatened no one’s safety but their own. Since the inception of the law that was NEVER meant to be a primary offense, TENS OF THOUSANDS of citizens of our great lake state have been harassed by authoritative desires of some in law enforcement, and have had their 4th amendment rights violated under the guise of suspicion that they were not properly buckled in.
For the first time, federally funded seat belt enforcement efforts will take place in all 83 Michigan counties to help jump start an increase in seat belt use and reduce traffic deaths and injuries. Starting today through May 31, police departments, sheriff’s offices and the Michigan State Police will conduct stepped up seat belt enforcement as part of the annual Click It Or Ticket campaign.
The enhanced effort coincides with the 15th year since Michigan adopted a law allowing law enforcement officers to stop motorists for not being buckled up. According to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, 2,659 lives have been saved since the law began in 2000 as a result of substantially higher belt use. States with primary enforcement laws have higher rates of seat belt use.
15 years of jackboot tyranny, now enhanced courtesy of an overreaching federal bureaucracy.
An open letter to Amazon.com Owner Jeff Bezos on the Main Street Tyranny tax.
Regulars have seen the attempts here to correct the misinformation about the main street fairness act.
Michigan lawmakers were snookered by Kowall and Verheulen into passing their tyranny in the lame duck; a time when there would seem to be no voter backlash. We call that cowardice, and reprehensible. This morning I penned (typed) a letter to Jeff Bezos, owner of Amazon.com:
I am an online retailer. I have been fighting the mainstreet fairness taxes for several years now. Recently, Michigan legislators in a lame-duck session voted to address nexus issues in the state in an attempt to collect use taxes from out of state vendors such as Amazon and other drop shippers.
Clearly you have been arguing that the commerce clause is the remedy to what the states are trying, and frankly you are right. Quill v North Dakota settled the matter, and if there was EVER a reason for Article 1, Section 8, Clause 3, this is it. The states cannot use tariffs or taxes to discourage (or encourage) trade with other states. It is one of the enumerated powers of the congress, and the states have little business attempting to work around it.
Have we allowed policing powers on some issues to go too far?
What says Memorial day in Michigan, more than an emptied beehive of police cruisers out to sting anyone they can?
Its the annual tradition of seat belt oppression on Michigan roads and highways. With grants providing overtime and special enforcement zones, this weekend’s vacation fun should fatten the local coffers and library penal fund balances right up. Most of our Michigan governments have been asked to accept such funding on behalf of their policing units, so as to enforce more rigorously, a regimen of protecting us from ourselves.
Sadly, the same legislature that allowed the return of helmet less motorcycling, has yet to reverse the 4th amendment violating features of seat belt enforcement. The original law, supposedly a non actionable civil infraction, now enshrines the means for abusive police action.
Hamas front group CAIR abuses Pittsfield TWP residents with legal thuggery.
Silence! I Keel you!
Or at least I shut your infidel trap up!
No this isn’t a Jeff Dunham Comedy hour, and its not Achmed the dead terrorist. Yet for some folks in Pittsfield Township Michigan, it is the silencing terrorism of lawsuits being used to prevent vocal opposition to a new islamic center. The not-so-funny efforts of [Hamas front group] CAIR, to shush neighbors of a proposed speaker laden madrassa and prayer center comes as no surprise as efforts to use Michigan courts against local residents continue.
