Sunday Open Thread – After Convention Edition

Good morning. Start the conversation.

The convention is over.

west-jasonAs usual, there is much to talk about as those of us who attend, rest up, decompress, etc.   Snyder got his ‘conservative’ to run with again, the U of M regent race mixed it up a little differently than some might have expected, and there is a renewed impetus to get behind Terri Lynn Land.

A quick summary of my own thoughts

  • Snyder-Calley yuck ticket.  Missed opportunity and a race to watch (shades of Romney; w/6 million sitting on hands) in disappointment.
  • Land moved to top of ticket and should stay away from embracing the homophile agenda or risk losing remaining conservatives.
  • Ruth Johnson is still THIS VOTER’s top of ticket.
  • U of M ticket construct may have made it possible for MiGOP to win Regent races as well as assist in higher ups (reverse coattails)
  • Sakwa Foster Ticket may even do well this time.

I will try to elaborate tonight or tomorrow.

Thoughts?

We need to take to thinking a bit long term. We have to think in terms of decades and that losing one election by voting for principle and valor is of greater good and need then voting party. Near all my life we have voted party, being told it is better and the result has been incremental drifting into communism. No more.

Plenty to say on this, as I jotted down extensive debrief notes last night, but I'm heading home today. (I had the sense to rent my hotel room in Novi for Saturday as well, so as to avoid having to drive home exhausted.) Give me a couple of days to get my head screwed back on straight, and I'll probably have something extensive to post on Tuesday.

If your principles will get someone worse than Granholm elected than you are just as much of a RINO as Joe Schwarz. Getting someone like Schauer elected and appointing bad judges, signing Cap and Trade, banning guns, partial birth abortion, is heavily opposed to my principles. I am voting for principle and that is defeating Mark Schauer and Lisa Brown.

The difference between someone like Wes Nakagiri and a 3rd party or democrat defecting temper tantrum is that one is respected by the actual base and one isn't. Wes has a future in politics if he wants it. I can see him in the state legislature someday, and he has the ability to win an election. Wes has the ability to advance his principles, especially if the district he runs for does not have Ingham County. The democrat enabling temper tantrum only unites the republicans and the ACTUAL base against them due to helping the democrats.

And this is any better than a "republican" who supports Common Core, special insurance carve-outs for his running mate's family (i.e. Calley's daughter's autism coverage insurance mandate), a publicly-funded bridge that a private business already offered to pay the entire cost on, Detroit Bailout and oh yes Obamacare (just to name a few)?

A "republican" who has indicated taking action during lame-duck to ram through a gas tax increase and expanding Elliot-Larson. And those are just a few of the items that items that we are aware of?

What else is under the radar?

Let me take that one step further: Instead of making gushing speeches about his running mate being the "best LG candidate", what do you think the sentiment among the Delegates would be if Snyder announced that he, along with Richardville & Bolger, would have Elliot-Larson expansion for the LGBTIQ-crowd on his desk before the November Election?

Or better yet, what he bucked yesterday's agenda and made that announcement before the vote?

Despite the amount of $$$ DeVos & Co. plunked down for the convention, five will get you ten that yesterday's vote would've been dramatically different.

I don't claim to speak for every Principled Conservative, but based upon those whom I do have contact with (and I got more than a few texts, e-mails and VM's yesterday) , I wouldn't be so quick to lump them into the "Vote Democrat" category any time quick.

What I do see happening is a repeat of '08 & '12, Conservatives who are tired of seeing the kakistocracy hand-picked candidates who are nothing less than poster children for the DNC platform on the REPUBLICAN Ticket, recognizing that troubling paradox and just simply deciding to stay home or leave that portion of the ballot blank.

And good luck getting those same people to even volunteer "for the cause" doing lit drops, phone banks and all the other grunt work associated with actually winning an election.

It's not just me who sees this scenario playing out again.

I've lost track at the number of times I've heard the calls for "unity" from the political big kahunas (a fact repeated again by Paul Ryan on "Face the Nation" just this morning).

Unlike the democrats who stand for wherever the political winds are blowing, Principled Conservatives do stand for something.

And until the Republican kakistocracy is cognizant of that axiom, and acknowledges it by their actions, they will continue to lose elections just like they will again this November.

      Mr. "Republican"...

Waste your time (we have precious little left...{pun intended}...) voting for the folks who continue to "dance with the devil"...we will not...

      Sheeple alert!

I hope you got some of Snyder's blood money to write that drivel, otherwise I just feel sorry for you.

My first thought is if we allow the disappointed to stay home instead of voting, more will be lost than gained. Our #1 priority at this time should be to get Land elected to the Senate in order to send a clear message to the Tyrant.

In my county we have a great candidate for the Michigan House. From what I've read other Districts also put many good candidates on the ballot. Let's get behind them and send them to Lansing to reign in this RINO Governor.

For those disappointed with Snyder, I guess they could vote for the Libertarian instead. Everyone who became a Delegate already knows that he, with the Devos regime spent a lot of money to game the elections, so I won't blame anyone who wants to send the establishment a clear message just as long as they don't throw baby out with the bath water.

The long game calls for us to get busy and find more Patriots to run for delegate in the future and to get them in as allowed by the existing rules. In my County we have the opportunity to put in place DOZENS. My friends and I have a plan.

The battle isn't over yet. Not by a long shot.

Land I will vote for (Hell, I would vote for Dan Benishek here if I could be assured it would lead to the end of Harry)...but I will never again lend my support to bi-annual, self proclaimed 'conservatives spouting unity as they attempt to crush a major portion of their true political base...

I'll bet most Republicans (including elected officials) have never read their own party platform...

Damn straight. The only difference I see between our fuehrers and the democrat's fuehrers is our fuehrers at least don't call us teabaggers outloud. Assuming one views them as our fuehrers.

Not disagreeing with the overall sentiment, but employing the reductio ad Hitlerum argument is a line that we really shouldn't cross because it makes us no better than the other side.

And believe me, there will be other battles coming.

          Just wait.

Point taken, and thank you. I really wasn't thinking of the term in the context of the guy who ran the ovens as much as I was thinking about how we are expected to basically thank the party establishment leaders and ask to be fed more skat. There are indeed other battles.
