Slotkin's Motives

Merry Christmas Michigan!

There is so much in the political landscape to be thankful for, and the gift of the last year, is more than enough treasure to find under the tree, but in the end what matters?

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

May the blessings of our savior find your heart, and may you find peace in the salvation brought to us in the birth of Christ.

Merry Christmas.

The Echo Chamber

Well, it took them long enough.

The first so-called “major revision” in the tax code in roughly 30-years.

Jason touched on this a little earlier with the statement released by Chairwoman Romney-McDaniel.

Speaking for myself, I’m going to hold off final judgment until I get a chance to read exactly what was in final bill. On the plus side, at least it doesn’t touch the continuing resolution.

But where I want to go with this is a little differently from where I have gone with in the past. This time I’m going to focus on the other side…Team “d”.

Not so much in what they have said, but in what they are doing. Or, more specifically, not doing.

GOP Statement On Tax Overhaul

It’s done.

President Donald Trump is hosting a celebratory affair after congress took action to reform federal tax policy.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman and former Michigan GOP chair Ronna McDaniel issued the following statement celebrating the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:

“Today is a historic day for Americans, as they receive the biggest tax cut for the working class in a generation,” said Chairwoman McDaniel. “Thanks to Congressional Republicans and President Trump for keeping their promise to the American people by passing historic tax relief, all without a single Democrat vote.””Democrats will be held accountable next November when their constituents realize they voted against more money in their paycheck and refused to take part in helping more Americans be successful.”

Excellent.
It has truly been a good year.

Karma and Hypocrisy

Karma: Fate or destiny resulting from one’s previous action.

Hypocrisy: The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess.

The supremely unctuous Stephen Henderson, Managing Director of Opinion and Commentary at the Detroit Free Press, got canned Friday for sexual harassment. Free Press Editor and Vice President Peter Bhatia has elected to shield us from the lurid details, a courtesy not afforded by the Free Press to the many others accused of sexual harassment during the current national feeding frenzy.

The allegations originally surfaced in a press conference the Reverend W. J. Rideout III, pastor of Our God’s People Church in Detroit, held last week. Reverend Rideout got suspended from his radio show on WFDF 910 AM for his efforts. Steve Neavling, a former Free Press reporter who was fired for his contretemps with homosexual teen groomer Charles Pugh in 2012, pursued the story on his own WFDF radio show as well as his Motor City Muckraker web site. Neavling had to enjoy the predicament of the Free Press, and probably Henderson too. Henderson was already a big shot at the Detroit Free Press when Neavling got railroaded.

Albion College Charges Student Republican For Firearms Humor

Albion College student Alexander Tokie emailed a political position paper on the subject of ‘white privilege’ to his fellow College Republicans in September. The email concluded with a very funny reference to a .45 ACP pistol and putative hunting permits for Antifa and ISIS:

….Take the liberal tears from the idiot you just destroyed in your debate, dissemble your American made Springfield M1911 .45 caliber handgun and apply the tears in order to clean the mechanism, reassemble and proceed to purchase ANTIFA and ISIS hunting permits and max out on tags.

Mr. Tokie’s position paper leaked and the entirely humorless administration of Albion College has charged Mr. Tokie with violating Albion’s policy against the ‘use of, or threatened use of, physical force or violence’.

A Terrible Candidate

Brash, unapologetic and likes the ladies a bit younger.

Undeniably, Judge Roy Moore is the guy who married a woman fourteen years his junior.  She was 23, he was 37, and he has been married to her for 33 years.

That last part might well go under the radar, as the theme of the year is sexual predation.  Under the current hysteria it is far easier to assign a label of ‘creeper,’ ‘pedophile,’ or ‘mall stalker’ than to look at the reality of the man’s life.  It is apparently now far easier to accuse a public persona of violating the mob conscience than it is to defend such accusations made in the 11th hour of an important electoral milestone.

And in that last, even the #Nevertrump insanity found plausible means to lash out indirectly at a Trump agenda that has so far proven them not just wrong, but simply foolish.

#NeverTrumpers had their symbol of failure to rally about.  They said Roy Moore was a pedophile, a dirtbag, a predator, and a creepy guy because he was committed to Trump’s agenda, even though Trump himself had originally rejected Moore in favor of a mainstream preferred Luther Strange.

SB 97 & All The Rest

Lots of stuff to discuss. Hope you all have the patience and time to digest it all.

Interesting perspective on Proposed Senate Bill 97 in your forward. My analysis is it is typical “fear mongering”. See discussion below.

Enclosed for your convenience is a copy of House Fiscal Legislative Analysis pertaining to Senate Bill 97. Permit me to comment on the Bill and ancillary issues pertaining to Public Private Partnerships (PPP’s) and infrastructure investment.

Senate Bill 97
The Bill authorizes the State and its various agencies to participate in Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) as a means to acquire private investment and management participation in state infrastructure projects. The objective of PPP’s is to facilitate private investment in infrastructure upgrades and repairs as a substitute for using taxation and state financed bonds as the sole remedy to pay for infrastructure needs. For example: The legislature raised the state taxes on fuels to pay for highway maintenance, construction and repairs, or alternatively, it could issue bonds secured by the State to be repaid with revenue either from the project (AKA TOLLS or USER FEES,) or increase taxes on the proletariat! Gas taxes or sales taxes.

As the Analysis confirms many states (other than Michigan) have now passed legislation authorizing their respective state agencies to enter into PPP’s as a basis to fund various transportation and other infrastructure needs (water and sewage). In the past I have referenced these projects as an alternative means to fund transportation and infrastructure needs in various letters to the media and others with copies to our relevant representatives. These copies are numbered and itemized below to refresh your memories. Several of the letters contain similar allegations and claims. My apologies for any redundancy. It is apparent the letters were of little interest to the recipients. So be it! It hasn’t been the first time. But, I digress.   Mea Culpa!

Irony Much?

I wonder how many have spent time in the Pugsley Correctional Facility for the charge of selling pot?

Those days are over, as the institution has closed to it’s prison population.  Any remaining dope peddlers are likely moved to other facilities, and … From today’s TC Ticker:

” In the wake of the closure of Pugsley Correctional Facility last year, Kingsley is preparing to trade prison jobs for pot jobs – an option that also is open to neighboring Fife Lake, though township officials there have so far rejected the prospect.

Fifteen months after Pugsley’s closure, Kingsley has signed off on permitting marijuana production facilities at its industrial park, a move that officials say wasn’t a direct response to the closure of the prison but should offset some of the job losses. The village has yet to approve a license for any particular business to operate a medical marijuana production facility, but it’s expected to soon receive an application from the Canadian company TheraCann that could call for the construction of a $20 million facility employing 100 people. “
