There is more of a problem with common core than bizarre math.
Melanie Kurdys is probably the foremost expert on the common core curriculum in Michigan. She has logged hundreds of hours speaking on the topic and making folks aware of the ruination of our educational system.
In this video Melanie speaks to the Traverse Bay 912 group at one of it’s weekly meetings.
You Betcha! (12)Nuh Uh.(0)
Melanie is our local hero and one of mine as well (thanks for sharing).
She has bravely 'stuck it out' advocating for (in my opinion) one of the top 3 issues that grassroots conservatism has flat out (shamefully) ignored since the very beginning of CC and for far too long now. She has plenty of supporters yet the vast majority (again shamefully) won't come out of the closet as they'll pay the same price in their communities for doing so as she has time and again.
The measure of a society is the education of their children.
Melanie understands this and is one of the few women in this state who has looked the establishment in the eye and who as not blinked over principle. Her cause is our cause and it is simply sad for our children that more do not recognize/support it.
The solution seems so black and white to me--stop funding these insane programs. Prop 1-15 has written in more funding for this crap.
There are a few points made in Ms. Kurdys' presentation. One which sticks in my mind is that teachers have absolutely no training in teaching reading. Really? A lot like the Constitution an elective in law school. The second one was requiring students to demonstrate three ways to solve a math problem and getting the wrong answer but because they could demonstrate three ways, it's correct. I wanted to ask if using fingers was one of the correct ways.
I'm a bit surprised by now that we don't seem to have a strategy (not Melanie's fault) to expose what is exactly being taught especially with this upcoming change (July) in the FOIA law here statewide.
We can complain all that we want in 'general' terms regarding CC yet if we aren't shoving this crap in the faces of those approving of it (I'm having trouble even 'imagining' that anyone would sign anything promising not to view what a child is reading/taking a test on) then we're not even taking the first step and the history books will (rightfully) note it.
Who will (soon?) be named the 'fall guy' on Trump's Michigan team who obviously convinced our President that Betsy DeVos has been fighting Common Core or even the most obvious of pro-Common Core bills about to be passed (SB33/510) from the very beginning?
Will Michigan Tea Party leadership (shamefully) flat out REFUSE to have these obviously influential individual(s?) named publicly and REFUSE to push *hard* for an IMMEDIATE party precinct 'resolution' vote taken statewide on this very issue?
Or will this one extremely important leadership issue finally prove that Michigan grassroots conservative leadership (not to mention every single precinct delegate 'evidently') has indeed been 'co-opted' from the very beginning of this movement?
If you won't reserve the Capital steps this holiday season over mere issues involving your own grandchildren?...
...perhaps it would be 'nice' if even one Michigan conservative (besides the brave heroes at SCCM doing it FOR THEM and FOR *YOU* for years now) questioned who exactly is 'running' grassroots or establishment Republican politics during this lame duck...or who exactly is flat out LYING to the President of the United States while the balance of this country is forced to take up the slack/prove it to him.
The man has 50 states, more screwed up countries with weapons of mass destruction than one can name, known terrorists getting ready to use them on our own soil and the possible end-of-the-world-as-we-once-knew-it to deal with every single second.
Can one single grassroots conservative here in Michigan simply set the record straight for him...or will this one very obvious refusal by every 'Republican' advisor around him to speak the truth coupled with the DEAFENING silence afterwards by everybody else (afterwards) go down in state and national history as...what?
Why our children can never trust us...and never will?
At the very least, THESE ladies 'get it'.
I'm not certain that there is a conservative group in this state who could hold a candle to them.
*GUTLESS* (The story of the Michigan Tea Party or how no-vote-of-the-people-required Pension Obligation Bonding corrupted the souls of a grassroots movement..which never was)
Well, they did it.
The first true grassroots conservatives here in Michigan to (very) publicly call for our children's issues to take immediate precedence *AND* for those inextricably attached (politically) to come down on one side or the other as to the obvious Michigan Republican leadership 'sway' over both hard core Michigan (cough) 'conservatives' and President Trump.
When you are unwilling to lead?
Others (not surprisingly a majority of very tough women in this case) will step right in and do it for you.
May God bless those who dare tread where others will not for the cause of both freedom and the shielding of our children from the evil surrounding them.
I have never been more proud of true modern day political patriots than I am of these true examples for our children to emulate
Way to go, ladies. We all truly look up to you and will surely be telling this historic story to our grandchildren so that they may never forget and pass it on.
