And it Only Took 135 Days to *Figure Things out*

If it’s dysfunctional you seek, look no further than the Calley name.

John Calley, 26, of Lyons, was charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, reckless driving and failure to report an accident – all misdemeanors.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 28, at a Pilot gas station on State Road at I-96 in Ionia County.

REST

Go figure. Sorta appears as if they had enough time to bury the toxicology report because the broad he is running with is bad, bad juju.

She said her daughter suffered broken ribs, collapsed lungs and abrasions. She was hospitalized for a day before being locked up on an unrelated shoplifting charge. Records show she was released from the Ionia County Jail on Wednesday.

Thorpe said her daughter, who has a minor criminal record, was an “associate” of Calley. She said her daughter called him on Jan. 28 and offered to pay him for a ride from the family’s home outside Ionia. She said she doesn’t know where they were headed.

Yep. Just a “minor criminal record“.

Shannon Emily Scully, 23, Ionia, convicted of larceny – less than $200, second or… Sentenced to 10 days in jail with 10 days credit, 12 months probation and $1,115 costs and fines.

Uh-huh. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. And, Schostak’s and Bolger’s buddy ain’t a pothead, either. Oh, wait!

Political machinations form the republican-side aside, this is unfortunately a symptom of a larger problem with our legal system.

    .

Specifically, the time it takes for judges to get off of their sorry lazy duff relating to scheduling and hearing cases.

    .

A perfect example is the case of a local party store owner who was gunned down by some savage animals back in March.

    .

Those responsible were picked up, yet they only now finishing up wrapping up the trial phase. They convicted one of them already. They have three more to go. And unlike Calley, this crew actually killed someone.

    .

I'm not naïve to expect criminals who commit heinous crimes to be swinging from the end of a rope here in Michigan right after they are brought in, but waiting months for their cases to be heard need shouldn't be tolerated either.

If I did that at work, let me tell you what would happen (which would be interesting since I had to take my third mandatory "road rage" and second "defensive driving" program within the span of a year):

First, once my employer was made aware of my actions (I am driving around with literally a 53' billboard of who I work for), they would remotely shut down my truck. They would also DL information from the onboard recorders to the home office.

Second, I would be patiently waiting for John/Jane Q. Law Enforcement to show up after they were notified of my exact whereabouts via GPS transponder by said employer.

Third, a representative of said employer would be arriving at my location and removing the memory from my onboard video recorder PDQ.

No, I'm not kidding. This is "standard equipment" the latest generation vehicles we are driving.

And this is in a "best case" scenario... presuming that an 80k# vehicle doesn't crush the woman's skull like an egg.

Yeah, sorry, but I don't have a brother (or any family member for that matter) in any level of government to run interference for me with the judiciary.

Yep. That's better. The only thing I see forgotten is all the paperwork, pee test and a breathalyzer exam if you had pulled Calley's crap.

Damn good thing John ran over a klepto “associate” broad in the county all his relatives are, huh?

The Ionia County Sheriff and Prosecutor are a despicable disgrace to their office.
