One of the disturbing things that I’ve come across while taking care of a troubling computer issue this weekend (“troubled computer” in question now dealt with in a very cathartic manner), is the number of people who are not aware of the OTHER issues on the ballot on Tuesday.
In between what can literally be described as the “chicken little” mentality in the MSM regarding yet another bug going around (practice basic hygiene…problem solved), very little (if any) coverage has been given to the other issues down ballot whose supporters are hoping that you either a.) not notice, or b.) just don’t bother showing up to vote at all.
I’m going to do a quick recap on what’s at stake.

In between being asked my $0.02 on whether or not Sanders should be given a “W” Tuesday Night given the token opposition to Pres. Trump (Weld…seriously???), I had asked those same people if they were even aware of the number of tax questions ALSO appearing on the ballot.
Based upon the lack of coverage in the media (IMHO, very purposely), a lot of people thought that the Presidential Primary was the only thing being decided.
I don’t have time to go all around the state, but let me touch base on a number of issues happening locally, specifically Tri-County (S.E. Michigan)/Macomb County.
First up is the DIA Millage renewal.
The same people who flat-out lied about this being a one-time only proposition (never to ask again after ten years…pinky swear), “unlimited free admission”, caring only about promoting the arts (while doling out double-digit pay raises to along with a secret loan to one of its executives) and are literally at their originally stated goal back in 2012 of $400-million (see page 3…total net assets at the bottom of page) with two years to go on the current tax, are now going back to the Taxpayers with hat in hand saying that they still cannot make ends meet.
And, oh yeah, they still have TWO YEARS TO GO ON THEIR CURRENT TAX!
This one should be a no brainer.
Second up, the MISD “Enhancement Millage”.
The Michigan Education Association is at it again with the tired refrain of their “just not being enough money”.
This one got snuck under the radar as multiple school districts who will benefit from it, didn’t even bother listing it under their respective district BoE minutes as a tax hike, only listing it as MISD proposal.
The Mackinac Center made sure that argument crashed faster than a Soyuz MS-10 rocket.
The fact that the teachers union kicked plenty of coin into the campaign kitty is also telling on where that tax money collected will eventually end up.
This one should also be a no brainer.
Borrowing a tactic from the DIA, Center Line will be holding a “public safety” renewal for a 10-year tax first passed back in ’11, this Tuesday.
Why ask now, and not when it’s due to expire?
THAT answer to that question should be plainly obvious.
And finally, Memphis will be going at it again for a “Capitol Improvements” millage that was defeated back in November.
There really ought to be a law banning this constant barrage of tax hikes. A “cooling off” period of at least five years between attempts would be a good start to address this issue.
So to wrap things up here: Polls open tomorrow at 7:00am and stay open until 8:00pm. There IS more on the ballot than just the Presidential Primary.
If you want to give a communist an ego boost, that’s totally up to you.
But, if you don”t want to open up your tax statement in the summer/fall and receive a shock, then I’d recommending glancing towards the end of the ballot you’ll be marking off tomorrow for any “surprises”.
I wouldn’t be astonished if this strategy is replicated elsewhere across Michigan.

DIA has been bombarding us with glossy flyers a couple times a week for the past several weeks as well as “it’s all about the children” t.v. ads for weeks.
They’ve also hit facebook with constant posts about the glories of DIA. If you dare to comment in opposition you get condescending “ladies” to encourage you to vote ye.....er, uh no.
Wife and I along with daughter and son-in-law crossed over to help Bernie and vote no on DIA millage.
"Think of the children..." is apparently one of the major speaking points the DIA acolytes have been coached to tell people in order to engender support for their little enterprise on Woodward.
They certainly cannot run on previous "promises" made to the Taxpayers.
They would most certainly tank their millage in a heartbeat if they went out and done that!
On a side note, the "Think of the Children"-argument falls flat on its face when you look at the other numbers.
Kids have to go to the DIA if their school makes them go. They don't have any choice in the matter.
Regular visitors...well, that's a different story.
In Macomb County alone, regular visitors, people who choose to go without any prodding, fell 20% since the DIA tax was imposed upon us.
Use THAT one against them when they try handing out the kool aid.
Maybe the DIA milage needs to be viewed in another light? If it's "Think of the children," then with each mandatory visit a school makes to the DIA, at least they're just looking a commie Mexican's mural and, one less day in a classroom being forced to learn about the joys and wonders of male anal intercourse.

As I indicated above, I was more than a little surprised at the number of people whom I've interacted with over the days prior to the election, who actually thought that the democrats were the only thing on the ballot on Tuesday.
For the record, I'm of the strong opinion that the local media was complicit in this by their noticeable lack of coverage up to the very last minute on other ballot issues. Staying quiet served their side very well.
I've been going over some numbers from yesterday, and truthfully, they're a little bit disconcerting. This is even before the "non-partisan" Redistricting Committee has their go at taking the overall situation from bad to whiskey tango foxtrot.
