Mercenary Research in the Service of Greed

News stories on the Michigan road tax proposal are replete with compelling, eye popping factoids about the costs poor roads impose on Michigan drivers. These factoids are so compelling that our colorless Governor cites them to sway voters in the upcoming sales tax proposal debate. Some examples:

  • An inadequate transportation system costs Michigan residents a total of $7.7 billion every year
  • Driving on rough roads costs Michigan motorists a total of $2.3 billion annually in extra vehicle operating costs
  • Driving on rough roads costs the average Detroit urban area motorist $536 annually in extra vehicle operating costs
  • Driving on rough roads costs the average Michigan motorist $357 annually in extra vehicle operating costs

You are expected to conclude that a 16.67% sales tax increase is a just trifle to escape these ghastly financial burdens. These factoids are always attributed to “TRIP, a national nonprofit transportation research organization”. Sounds like an independent, credible source – right? The adjectives ‘nonprofit’ and ‘research’ give you a high level of confidence in their pronouncements? Perhaps you should dig a little deeper than our conniving politicians and their lazy media scribes.  The TRIP report they are mining for these factoids is: MI_Transportation_By_The_Numbers_TRIP_Report_Jan_2014

Brandon, Brandon, Brandon…

For me, Twitter has become entertainment in its ability to rapidly convey snark. Do not misunderstand what Twitter is – it’s a powerful promotional tool but, for the most part it remains a pebble to cast potshots. Much can be said the same about Facebook in its circles of *friends* and *likes* which can be purchased. What’s the old rule? Paper always beats rock or, in this case – pebbles. This is why blogs will always reign supreme over the two aforementioned medias in the vastness a blog has ability to cover. Well, that, and I enjoy a healthy dose of snark as much as anyone else so, those with a Revolutionary bent for a cradle-to-grave government overreach mentality… perhaps, there’s old vacancies in Cuba waiting for you, Rep. Dillon?

And, oh why lookie here…

Kowall & VerHeulen Pushing MORE Regulation On Michigan

Big Box retailers have found foot soldiers willing to do bidding in HUGE rent seek.

Kowall-Verheulen-TaxersHeads up!

Word on the street is that HB 4202 and HB 4203 are on the schedule for second reading today in the Michigan House of Representatives. That means it would be up for FINAL PASSAGE tomorrow. You can read below all the details about the bills. Bottom line, if they are enacted, you will be paying MORE taxes.

Please take a moment and contact your representative today. Let your opinion be known! These phone calls and emails do matter. They do affect how a representative votes.

Find your representative’s contact information here.

We will keep you posted of the progress (or lack therof) of these bills tomorrow.

House Bills 4202 (Kowall-R), and 4203 (VerHeulen-R), will impose new taxes on consumers in Michigan and will further burden online sellers, especially the mom and pop shops that operate out of a small store front office or the business owners home. They will be subjected by government to an abundance of new compliance requirements. It will stifle competition as many smaller competitors to the big guys (like Amazon) will likely be forced to downsize or worse yet, go out of business.

$200,000? That’s Chump Change!

This makes one wonder, under what rock has this sap been living?

An ArtPrize finalist has vowed to give away any prize money he might win because of his opposition to the conservative politics of the DeVos family, who fund the competition.

Steve Lambert of Beacon, N.Y., in line to possibly win the $200,000 grand prize, has vowed to give away any potential award to a gay-and-lesbian organization, the LGBT Fund of Grand Rapids, as a political statement.

MORE

Steve has not a clue, and the fool and his money soon part. Whatever. Besides, we’ve known all along who already has the unofficial “Art Prize” trophy.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

The Only Thing That Changes Is The Day

From the files of “I know you are but what am I?

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land has sold her shares in a mutual fund that invests in an oil company she has criticized Democratic opponent Gary Peters for owning direct stock in, a campaign spokeswoman said Tuesday.

So, there’s that {yawn}. Same ‘ol same old schoolyard nonsense when inept competes for the same office.

GiantDouchePetersVersusTurdSandwichTerri

Frankly, I believe pet coke Stone Wool is a wonderful product, and I sure would not change my investment portfolio simply because of Peters’ hypocrisy, nor due to these jackals writing policy in Washington, which receive lobbyist payola from Socialist tax-exempt Foundations, their EnviroTard™ cults, and a cabal of billionaires, some real sleazy with pork laden schemes.

The Other Shady Bunch

What perfect timing to have us some Wayne County Jail indictments.

Jail contractor Walbridge Aldinger was selected over objections from contractors who complained the process favored the company. Its CEO, John Rakolta, served on a board of a nonprofit led by Mullin that was paying her a $75,000 bonus atop her $200,000 salary from the county.

Nah… nothing to see here, here, here, or here.

Move along rank-and-file Romney/Rakolta cult Party sheeple.

Bahahahahahahahahaha!
