Right?
OK, its not quite like that. It cannot be.
We need to have SOME friends, or we might just as well sit in our easy chairs and drink a toast to ‘the end.’ And here is a little secret: The numbers in our readership are not where we need them to be for effective message delivery. And effective message delivery is needed to convince our friends why they are our friends, and to let our opposition know that they are on the wrong track.
Simple right?
RightMi.com has in the past provided something not available in the regular media, and missing in other blogs. While being provocative enough to earn a disowning from the old Rightmichigan.com site, I had hoped we could avoid being vulgar and outright offensive for the sake of being offensive.
Somewhere along the way, the ball was dropped, IMO. I will take responsibility for it too. This forum has provided relevant information and has moved opinion by providing the truth for those who wish to see it. We have influenced decision makers rightly by seeking insight that they have lacked. But in the process, some articles and commentary might have been seen as crossing a line of decency, and now we are paying the price.
This shouldn’t have happened.
We want engagement. We want input, and are willing to host a space that offers an enhanced forum outside of FB, where much political discussion now seems to be the norm. And we don’t pound you with ads – on purpose.
Adjustments are being made but make no mistake, RightMi.com is not going to go all politically correct. There will be no previous posts pulled, edited, or moderated after the fact. And its not about to become a GOP sycophant site. However, it is time to stop gratuitous crudity in future posts and commentary.
This isn’t KOS, so watch for changes in how things are done here.
I truly hope that it is salvageable. You've got a treasure trove of good archived information here buried in a mixture of good intent/bad judgement.
2016 is for all the marbles and no other sites here in Michigan seems to realizes this or have simply given up (which obviously can be contagious).
Praying that everybody receives a new vision or outlook on the future next year (for the sake of our grandchildren and theirs).
RightMI is wonderful!! I read it first in the morn--well first in the morning I make my special coffee recipe, then I run to RightMI. The knowledge and lessons gain, sends me to the newspapers to see how they're reporting the same issues.
There have been times on issues, like the Flint water fiasco, when RightMI reports should have been required reading. I can't wait for the new and improved. Happy New Year to all.
The water fiasco should STILL be required reading. This piece on Gibbs and the original article here, are chock full of info.
These changes sound like a good idea, because you're right: This isn't KOS or Firedoglake. There's a limit to insult and hyperbole if you want to reach others. I've learned much about Michigan issues here I see nowhere else, but that wheat has sometimes gathered too much chaff.
Best of luck!
Good on you, Jason! Also, I don't believe it would be wrong to moderate after the fact if it clarifies the message.
"...Also, I don't believe it would be wrong to moderate after the fact if it clarifies the message..."
...or welcomes anybody under 18 from actually being able to read it without their parents disapproving (someday) and an educational opportunity being lost.
What has been lost a long time ago is the fact that some people actually monitor what their children are exposed to.
When we decide (as adults) how 'quickly' other people's kids need to (ironically) 'grow up'...THEY decide (as if the adults insisting this never did) that their kids don't need to hang around anybody telling THEM how to raise their kids.
It's about time.
Too little too late. Jason, you destroyed what was once a good site years ago, and now there's nothing you can do to undo the damage done.
The disagreements we have had with you are still legit. You went all RINO, and deserved every bit of criticism targeted your way. I have no worries about where the site will be going. I am simply making the statement that we won't be vulgarian. Because it will conflict with your progressive left attitudes is of little concern.
You won't eliminate the vulgarity until you stop allowing people like Corinthian Scales to post... I see no voluntary change coming from him.
And are you really going to stand by the statement that I deserved "every bit" of criticism? You're actually going to back CS's comments like calling me a "fag" or "May your uterus tilt again, twInks"? CS is the poster child of being a vulgarian. If you truly thing I am deserving of everything he's ever said, then you have proved my point and have truly learned nothing. If you can honestly defend CS's comments, then this announcement regarding adjustments is completely hollow.
OK, I can speak for myself. Anything I said you deserved. But I do now recall incessant whining, and see it starting again. IMO You never added anything of value but merely took time away from anyone reading your obsessive flummery.
Back in 2007-ish when Nick started RightMichigan it was great. Unfortunately, he stepped away over the years and handed it over to Jason, which ultimately ended in RightMichigan going offline and the current RightMI replacing it. I don't know anyone who reads it anymore. I only visit to see who is getting defamed by C.S. and other anonymous hate-filled commentators that add little to the conservative movement in Michigan. I remember when Jason got the award years ago from Sam Adams. But then something happened. I don't know if it went to your heard or you fell in with a bad bunch, but it's truly sad. Truly sad. Lots of good Michigan voices who are anything but RINOs will never be part of RightMI as long as the current crew is around.
You comment on a regular basis using monikers such as "GOP" "Tea Not Coffee" "Linda Lee watcher"
At least I put my name to my words and don't pretend any bs motivation. IF you want to stick up for the complainer you go right ahead. Its ALL he does, and its been called out resulting in ever more pewling. I will continue to work the changes I see are necessary. As for the "hate-filled commentators?" Please elaborate on what you see as 'hate?' Curious.
You don't see the hate? Probably 60 percent of the comments and guest posts contain personal attacks against public figures. This does nothing to contribute to the political discourse on the right in Michigan. Moreover, if you wanted to start a new chapter for RightMI then require real names for all bloggers -- published bylines. Don't hide behind anonymous pen names. It's one thing to post a comment under a pen name. It's something totally different to blog and attack public figures using a pen name. Become transparent. Disclose the first and last names of all bloggers. Disclose any funding RightMI receives to keep it online. Require moderation--there should be a disinterested editor who reviews every blog before it's published to ensure nobody is going crazy and not taking a moment to think before publishing.

Read the above story and pray tell us more as to the public figures you so vigorously defend.
Even the posters themselves were being attacked on here in the past.
If we can take it, move on and even forgive...I'm guessing that those continually making headlines such as those above or so many more well documented here (by anything but anonymous authors) certainly can as well.
The establishment's biggest fear is simple links to incompetence such as the above that are completely self explanatory and which require no commentary whatsoever.
If other authors (here) feel the need to nicely fill in the gaps such as has been done of late?...you're right...that's wholly unacceptable to the political elite.
I too have been here for years, and remember the old Nick days when the site was relevant. Now it seems to have dwindled to a handful of cranky neckbeards arguing narrow spats, plus regular sewage from Corinthian Scales. Here's a vote for wider topics rather than circular firing squad political squabbles.
