Punished Enough?

Perhaps a little perspective is in order.

I ran against Larry Inman in 2016.

Not because he and I disagreed greatly in principle, or that he was far left (he is most certainly not), but mostly because I didn’t trust his instincts with people. This may have led to some of his recent problems, and perhaps how easily he can get roped into bad decision making or votes by those with other agendas.

But Larry is not a BAD guy, or evil, or anything that many of those who rise to higher office become. He just trusts too many of those who make a living off of dealing with, or taking advantage of an overly benevolent government.

The rent seekers find players they can successfully manipulate, and there are plenty enough within both political ranks in Michigan alone to fill Cobo hall. But on the fringes of those, are the strategists who work to find the chinks in the armor of political rivals. Willing to ruin the life of a person for political gain is easy for far too many on either side.

I would guarantee that Larry was in some-way victimized by those who have been trying to flip his Northern District and reverse polarity in the State house. He might have also been confused on how to solicit contributions (100% legal) for the over-moneyed process that is politics in Michigan.

But larry Inman is no criminal. And apparently, the first round of court battles he has been engaged in says as much.

Guilty?

Inman likely no more guilty than many others in the legislature.

I was driving through St. Louis when I got the news that Larry Inman had been indicted.

It was pretty big news. Disappointing, yet it didn’t surprise me. In fact, there has been so much ‘questionable’ activity going on in Lansing for decades that it was not surprising that a representative with a record of poor instincts would be the victim of a sting operation.

At least that is my assessment of what happened. Clearly there is pay for play in our state politics. The existence of the MEDC, and by extension any organization that profits from doing business with the state would have incentive to fill campaign coffers. Ask any one who still raises money after they have been term limited why they do so. If they don’t tell you directly, then look at their campaign statements on the debt side.

It’s not for charity.

Mistakenly express the the wrong sentiment, in a way that is contextually vulnerable, to the wrong people, in the wrong format. Then whammo! You get a Representative Larry Inman indictment.

But the GOP led house, wishing to remain unscathed in a (heavens forbid) scandal of such magnitude would prefer to let Larry off the bus, ask him to inspect the rear brake lights, and …well as one might see by now, the bus does have reverse.

Larry Inman For Governor!

"The governor that would listen" makes his case on the 'Big Show.'

According to an interview on the Big Show, and other confirming sources, it appears State Representative Larry Inman has his eyes on the executive office of Michigan.

Don’t find it so hard to believe folks. After redistricting In 2012, Inman briefly considered taking on incumbent Dan Beneshek. It is entirely possible that Inman might believe he could do well in a multiple candidate race, as it was the 9 way contest in 2014 that put him in office. As we all know, there will be multiple contenders for the GOP spot because of the weakness in the Dem bench, and each candidate will draw nominally from each other.

While he has not officially declared, he has plenty of time before the upcoming Mackinac Republican Leadership event which will tell the real story.

Representative Larry Inman Clarifies AFP comment

Michigan State Representative Larry Inman has requested clarification on his reference to AFP’s Pete Lund in yesterday’s post.

We are happy to provide an outlet for clarity. Posted without comment.

” Please disregard my remark regarding Pete Lund and Americans for Prosperity. I was misinformed by a third party comment. I have since had an opportunity to personally speak with Pete Lund and he does not support any bills or actions by the Michigan Legislature that are in any form of a tax increase both personally, and representing Americans for Prosperity . My deepest apology to Pete Lund and Americans for Prosperity for this miscommunication. I accept full responsibility for this miscommunication that was reported. Larry C Inman. “

Do You Miss Her Yet?

House GOP membership toes the line like good little minions.

As the inflation protected taxes and unnecessary fees are imposed, the shame of those who ‘unelected’ a particular representative from Allegan County should be pronounced and clear.

Cindy Gamrat would have provided you with cover Representative Gary Glenn. I don’t see you bragging this one up like your near-miss confiscation legislation. You voted to remove her to keep your house overlords happy. Aren’t you proud?

Farm bureau will still love you Triston Cole, as the fuel taxes and registration don’t hurt your lobbying buds. Never mind the rest of the suckers who bought the AFP nonsense in the last election cycle that you would fight for the taxpayers.

Oh yeah those guys..

Sure enough, something must have happened to AFP along the way to the bank. Ever since Scott Hagerstrom was departed from the ranks of the organizing 501(c)4, it seems to have lost its way. What was once the messenger of a clearly recognizable message of no new taxes, or growth of government, has now apparently blessed this newest blasphemy of conservative principle. Representative *Larry Inman says in a response to a text:

“Hi Jason, Pete Lund says he will accept our package, mostly coming from the General fund and user fees. We needed some gas tax. Senate and Governor told us to do it to fix the roads.”

So now AFP calls the shots along with the RINO governor?

Pete Lund of the AFP says “he will accept” the package. How special. Why do we bother sending anyone to Lansing anymore if they cannot abide by the principles they campaign on. Why do we bother with pretenders?

What about it Lee Chatfield? Is the same moral compass which drove you to throw out due process last month pointing North now? Are you happy to have been pushed into a corner where you can no longer appropriately represent your district; many of whom in it cannot afford the trivial increases you just voted to support in ever increasing perpetuity?

Attack Ad On Republican Candidate Draws Sharp Rebuke

The first complaint about an attack ad by Michigan Democrats against 104th Candidate Larry Inman comes from where?

A political attack television ad aired in the 104th district (which covers Grand Traverse County in its entirety) is drawing an immediate call for its removal. Not from candidate Inman, but by his opponent.

An advertisement that suggests Republican Larry Inman is out of touch, voted for tuition increases as a university trustee, supports higher taxes, and is guilty by association with those who voted to raise property and pension taxes is under fire by the person who would benefit from such ads. Betsy Coffia, a Democrat who has sworn off PAC money and these types of ads says “We have committed to running a positive campaign, and we consider negative ads to be part of the problem, instead of part of the solution.”

Coffia then goes on to ask supporters to call the Democrat state party directly and ask them to remove the ads.

Suggestions for Michigan's contested State Representative seats in the Republican Primary

This should have been done a week ago.

Its a little more or less incomplete, but based on FB, websites, personal knowledge and other factors we have compiled a list of those whom we feel will represent their respective districts (AND MICHIGAN) well for the next legislative session. We recognize that many of the candidates will feel they too represent a more conservative set of values than the recommendation, and we ask that they assist in holding their opponents words to deeds going forward.
