When the MEDC says "hold my beer.."

Turnkey operations are clearly the next step.

It’s true, why not turn our government bureaucracies into full blown business incubators? Buy a number of corner buildings, land, ready spaces, and turn em into a new 7-11 chain, tux shop conglomerate, or CBD syndicate. Then, turn em over to someone willing to fill out the paperwork, stand on a stage with a governor,  and swear allegiance to the bureaucracy and our sacred Eco-Dev Central!

the MEDC is having a birthday.  In fact it is apparently ready to graduate from simple cronyism, to full blown Fascism.  Government determining which component of the economy it will promote with taxpayer money is certainly bad, but when it actually does the site work?  From Crains:

Are there are some areas outside of your control and domain that you think we ought to be focused on as a state in order to improve our chances to land the next company from San Jose?

The one that’s in our domain that we have started doing some work on — working with our local partners — and that’s having ready sites. Whether it’s just raw acreage that has the right infrastructure available in terms of electrical capacity, water and sewer. …

We are not a state that has a lot of available spec buildings — the 180,000-square-foot size buildings that have been built speculatively by developers that we can immediately turn to a prospect and say here’s a building you can move into in 60 days. We’re doing some work in that space both on the spec building side … as well as on the raw land site improvement to help get us better prepared or ahead of the curve to take advantage of some of the opportunities that are out there.

In other words “if we build, they will come”

I am not sure how else anyone could frame the reality of this.  The state sanctioned corporate welfare agency is apparently going to hand out ready made office space.

Its not enough to give away public monies to those who wish to build and presumably hire (while competing with existing business in the state), but now the ‘adult’ version of this ministry of commerce wants to bequeath planned locations for maximum benefit.

Did I mention Fascism?  Yes I did:

“Where socialism abolished all market relations outright, fascism left the appearance of market relations while planning all economic activities. Where socialism abolished money and prices, fascism controlled the monetary system and set all prices and wages politically. In doing all this, fascism denatured the marketplace. Entrepreneurship was abolished. State ministries, rather than consumers, determined what was produced and under what conditions.”

Add all of this up if you will.

  • The state determines the need.
  • The conditions of operation are designed.
  • Wages are set politically
  • No/low risk – Entrepreneurial expression is more than dissuaded
  • Maintaining a Veneer of a Marketplace.

Clearly, as an honest to goodness grown up, the MEDC is ready to manage the most aggressive aspects of any authoritarian executive branch willing to cut their tether.  With other people’s money. the wildest imaginings of our shadow government class can be made real and brought out into the open.

So pop the cap! It’s a birthday, and there is champagne & caviar for everyone!

Making sure of course it is sourced from an officially sanctioned Pure Michigan party store.

So, Jason, riddle me this... how is it you plan on preventing surrounding states to not do the same goddam thing?

Your days of purism left you long before when you were born.

Keep up the good fight, tho.

    Fun to watch.

There are advantages to be had when the local government is not paying your competitors to get in your way. Let them be in another state.

There is no substitute for a strong business plan that needs no handouts, and has no IOU. And beyond even that, if government is willing to buy property, or make it otherwise unavailable to those who would deal fairly, then it distorts the values, and raises the costs to everyone.

All I am trying to do is inform, and hopefully offer a reasonable alternative perspective.

Jason, cannot argue against one word you wrote. I totally agree! Yep, on your team with what every word you state. Now, because America failed parenting, try to realign your indoctrinated replacement generation (don't blame me, I didn't have kids).

There’s also the fact that America has been a social democracy for close to a century now. Mostly what the Right in America has done since WW2 is perpetuate a fantasy that is not based in fact. Just about every aspect of American life is socialized to some degree.

There is no area of American life where the state does not play an active role and there is no redistributive goal of their involvement. The core of both parties, both sides of the ruling class, is packed to the gills with central planners. Their only dispute is about the resulting patronage.

BreadlineBernie? Alexithymia Ocashew-Cortex? Ilhan Omar (brother f*cker-Minneapoldishu)? Pete 'Deep State candidate' Buttigieg, unlike Kamala Harris butt-gig?

The list goes on and on.

        Just sayin'
