It’s done. Stick a fork in her US Senate Campaign.

In a largely self-funded campaign that has adopted the unique strategy of avoiding contact with the voters as much as humanly possible, the running comedy of the republican-anointed candidate for US Senate had taken yet another hit this week.

And who is jumping ship this time might surprise you.

{Details after the fold}

Was it the Koch Brothers?

No, contrary to what you may see on TV from the Peters Campaign (despite making progressives go into uncontrollable spasms any time their names are mentioned), they realized what a dud her campaign was and pulled up stakes months ago.

Was it the Mia-GOP?

Nope. Despite having the man directly responsible for the implementation of the prototype of Obamacare on a statewide scale appearing with her at another republican “open event” for voters, the rest of the Michigan republican party apparatus stood by her, kool aid at the ready.

So who is bailing on her campaign now?

According to today’s Detroit News, The National Republican Senatorial Committee is pulling nearly $1-million in advertising.

To give a contrast on how bad this is for Land, she hasn’t improved despite about $18-million spent on advertising in support of her campaign according to the latest reports while $14-million was shelled out in support of Peters.

In a laughable mea culpa explaining this action, NRSC Consultant Ron Bonjean had this comment:

“We are monitoring this state very closely and think that Terri Lynn has an excellent chance to win. No one should be surprised to see us make a significant investment in this race in the coming days and weeks. However, right now the other outside allied groups have Michigan well-covered. We will be making more decisions on the race during the next four weeks and strongly believe Terri Lynn Land will be a U.S. Senator on November 4.”

Okay, I’ll bite, Ron; What outside groups?

It’s no big surprise that Land is having difficulty connecting with voters (hoping in her International CXT Pickup truck and running away from them might have something to do it with it).

“On the road again. I can’t wait to get on the road again…”

She is terrible with interacting with them when she DOES have the opportunity to do so (OABTW CS, warn us ahead of time about what a train wreck that interview with her was BEFORE we listen to it...shudder).
And she is reprehensible when it comes to standing on something which should be a no-brainer principle-wise.

The final nail in the coffin is when people like this compliment you on a position that runs totally contrary to the base you are trying to gain support from.

I’ve been unable to find a recent poll in which she hasn’t been behind.

I’ll even give people like Kerry B. credit for throwing his hat back into the ring in November in an attempt to get people to vote for her. But honestly, what can anyone really do when a candidate doesn’t want to actually win?

      I told her handlers at the time that they should have hid the tanto. Sepaku so early in the race means you have to drag the body around.

        Still hanging with Michigan's Tuco, eh?

        OABTW, her handlers aren't on the ballot... {spit}

    There's a strategy going on that we're all falling for--and it has something to do with deliberately pushing candidates out of touch with "We the People". Land, Trott and Wayne Schmidt are perfect examples. But, remember, the GOP pulled out of Justin Amash's campaign too--confusing?

    Terri Lynn Land has run a horrible campaign. I get that. Actually, strike that. John Yob, her consultant, has run a horrible campaign. Still, it's not all her fault. She stepped up when nobody else would run. Really. We should be blaming Brian Calley, Bill Schuette, Ruth Johnson, Justin Amash, Mike Rogers, Dave Camp, and Candice Miller. All of them could have run for the Senate and done better than her. But they passed. We actually had a chance of winning this a year ago.

      Normally, I would agree with your point regarding the other people who bowed out.

      With the exception of Rogers, the rest of your list is composed of career politicians who literally jump from office to office, typically during "safe" elections.

      However facts are facts: we got the person who decided to run.

      But this does not excuse Land for her conscious decision on how her campaign is ran.

      Unless you are a well-heeled incumbent in a safe seat (ironically: Levin), you can afford to stay out of the spotlight during the course of the election and not do a damned thing except for make an appearance on election night and fake gratitude for your re-election

      Avoiding personal appearances and debates (especially making waffling demands relating to appearing) is the kiss of death for any campaign.

      Does john Yob share some responsibility for her campaign's failure?

      Absolutely.

      But so does Land for presuming that she will automatically win simply because of name-recognition and that she is on the ballot.

      That is the strategy of fools!
