Capitalism Works
by Jason • • 4 Comments
Capitalism will fix 99.9% of the problems we have with supply of necessary items during a crisis.
If only we allow it to work.
The wife and I stopped at Meijers last night to get a few things to top off the ol prepper inventory. It was almost a surreal experience however, as nearly every cart we saw was full to the brim and strangely guarded, as-if each person was carrying around their most treasured worldly possessions.
I guess the WuhanVirus panic has taken over. And along with that, folks are planning on hiding out in their homes with as much as they can, at least until the NBA resumes its normal schedule.
By now folks have probably heard of the toilet paper crisis. There are few stores if any that have any stock of toilet paper left on the shelves, and there are many videos of morons with dirty derrieres have been cage matching it to make sure they have enough wiping paper to last them through the year 2022.

2017 Solar Eclipse
by 10x25MM • • 7 Comments
Take A Break From The Left's Fabricated Race War, Have Some Fun On Monday
The 2017 solar eclipse will cover 70% – 85% of the sun across Michigan on Monday, 21 August. Long range weather forecasts suggest some cloud cover in the 2:00 PM – 2:40 PM (EDT) peak Michigan viewing time, but not total cloud cover or any rain. Peak coverage of the sun by the moon will occur from 2:10 PM – 2:20 PM (EDT) in the Upper Peninsula and 2:20 PM – 2:30 PM (EDT) in the Lower Peninsula. The moon will cover some portion of the sun from about 12:30 PM – 4:00 PM (EDT) across Michigan.
The view from Michigan will not be as spectacular as the total solar eclipse which will occur 300 miles south of us, but it will still be pretty impressive. Because there will be no totality in Michigan, everyone here who wants to view the eclipse directly will require serious eye protection – no exceptions. The only safe way to look directly at the sun or the partially eclipsed sun is through special solar filters, such as ‘eclipse glasses’ compliant with ISO 12312-2: 2015.
There has been a lot demand for solar eclipse glasses and many vendors are sold out. Even worse, there appears to be a lot of chicanery going on with unsafe counterfeits being sold. Even the compliant solar eclipse glasses are sort of cheesy. It is exceedingly difficult to tell that your are getting genuine eclipse glasses compliant with ISO 12312-2: 2015 in this age of cheap Chinese knockoffs. Nothing here inspires confidence.
There is, however, an alternative.

Free And Open Markets OR Enforcement Of Contract?
by Jason • • 5 Comments
How should the press release by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette be taken?
One would think that a member of the party supporting ‘free and open markets’ would be inclined to liberate those same markets.
Yet recently and not for the first time, the Michigan Attorney General’s office has investigated, and prosecuted privately-held businesses for responding to demand and availability in ways they felt were necessary. Using taxpayer dollars, the AG’s office obtained a $500,000 settlement from a provider of propane, because that business raised its prices.
Though some of the investigation had legitimate reason to happen (established deals were not being honored), the underlying premise that the AG’s office presents is one that seemingly panders to the “its just not fair” crowd. When Schuette says :
“I’m happy we can put money back into the wallets of hard-working families who paid steep prices to heat their homes last winter while already trying to make ends meet.”
He is not saying he is “happy to provide enforcement of contract”
THAT is a problem. Its not the job of the Michigan Attorney General to make sure pricing is fair. Its not the Job of the Office of the Attorney General to ensure people can afford their utilities or everyday needs. Its definitely not Bill Schuette’s job to “put money back into the wallets” of those he deems to have been victimized by a brutally cold winter, or those who must provide the resources to deal with it.

Support Price Gouging – Friday Divertere
by Jason • • 0 Comments
More than once we have witnessed the attorney general’s office go after or closely watch gas station owners for price gouging after severe weather events.
But is it even appropriate to do so?
In 2008, Governor Jennifer Granholm had taken a threatening posture reminiscent of HER AG days, and as pointed out, I believe she was wrong. I approached this subject with support towards those who would profit from temporary misery, and ended with support for those especially miserable:
But when considering the situation, how bad is it to charge more for gas, and at WHAT point is it considered price gouging? Not only that, but what RIGHT does GOVERNMENT have to CONTROL Prices? If a station owner is looking at NO deliveries for the next two to four days raises his prices because his supplier is unable to guarantee delivery, who is in a position to criticize it?. What is that person supposed to do? By gas prices going high temporarily, it guarantees that those who TRULY NEED the resource will have it.
This video completes the argument.
