This afternoon, my sources informed me that the Macomb County Board of Commissioners – Government Operations Committee approved the “Macomb County Human Rights Policy” early this afternoon by a 7-4 vote.

Despite lacking any examples of “discrimination” to cite as justification for implementing such a policy in Macomb County, every democrat voted lockstep in supporting this, while every republican voted “no”.

I was informed that even the policy’s main backer, Commissioner Fred Miller – District 9, was having an interesting time explaining the vague and ambiguous language in his policy to fellow commissioners, especially after some pointed questions by Commissioner James Carabelli.

Commissioner Vosburg attempted to introduce an amendment to create a committee to examine any examples of “discrimination” so that the Board would have something to quantify approving this policy, but it was shot down by the majority of democrats.

My sources also told me that while there were a number of Macomb County Residents speaking out against this policy, more so than any other committee meeting, there were no residents speaking out in support of it.

Go figure.

One final item, this policy does not take immediate effect.

Even though it was approved by the Government Operations Committee (essentially made up of everyone sitting on the Macomb BoC) it needs to be approved again at another meeting on September 18th
