MiGOP reminder of Whitmer's absolutism.
I share the common distrust of the powers that be in Lansing to hold off on NEW gas taxes.
It seems that even the post directly preceding this has noted potential end-around solutions that will provide new income streams from taxpayer to bureaucrat for whatever purpose. We advise strongly against new enabling features that give local government more ways in which to screw us.
In the meantime we can at least enjoy the fact that the legislature did force Whitmer to show where her priorities are not, by witnessing the line item vetoes made. I agree with several of them, but frankly think at this point she owns any discontent from those sectors.
The next couple of years will be interesting.
For the time being, I say give Whitmer all of the rope to hang herself with (politically speaking), and then use that to correct the results of last year's election and cement the hold on the Michigan House during the '20 Election.
But knowing the MIGOP's penchant for pulling defeat out of the jaws of victory, they'll find some way to royally muck this up, either through some "compromise" regarding a gas tax hike or "fixing" the mistakes made via her line-item veto frenzy earlier this week by passing a supplemental appropriations bill to give into her demands.
That WILL happen...just watch!
I'm afraid you're right about a supplemental appropriation bill being the "cave in" to Gov. Blue Shamu's temper tantrum 'cause yannow, #EmpoweredFemale.
Damn good thing for her I'm not Senate Majority Leader because I'd tell her to go sit and spin on her Executive pen.
Ps. yes, the SML is the weak link in Lansing.
Ok, that said. I will go so as far to stand up with Speaker Chatfield, as to honor the generous budget that the Democratic Party sent to their governor and She shit on it!
