  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Itching Ears and Mad Prophets

My pastor, when he's discussing contemporary culture from either the sanctuary pulpit or the classroom lectern, likes to refer to what he calls, "itching ear disorder."  The primary Scripture reference is 2 Timothy 4:3-4, referring to a time when people will have no further interest in the truth, and won't tolerate listening to anything that contradicts their philosophical predispositions.  As a student of Scripture, I can say with some certainty that the prophets and apostles were well acquainted with this disorder.  Hosea even wrote about a time when hostility against the truth would become so great that those who insist on speaking it would be considered fools and maniacs.  According to a disputed George Orwell quote ("In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.  The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those that speak it."), "itching ear disorder" isn't exactly an unusual condition in the human experience.

And this brings us to the current philosophical skirmish involving Michigan's Republican National Committeeman, which involves the latest escalation by some unsavory elements within the Michigan Republican Party, who seem to be in a desperate quest to reclaim lost relevance.

Sorry Charlie, err, Joshua, however, besides same last names, you two do have the same stench.

Last week, following offensive comments about LGBT Michiganians [those would be Michiganders] from Michigan's Republican National Committee member Dave Agema, Michigan Republicans collectively failed to take any action to hold Agema accountable for his hate speech. Republican Gov. Snyder was complicit in this, telling a Lansing radio host "I'm not getting into that."

Hate speech my ass, signed Wolverine. Furthermore, if the Ann Arbor Nerd wasn't such a flaming Progressive surrounding himself in Obama funding secrecy, his answer for Medicaid Expansion would have also been, "I'm not getting into that."

Every stupid thing on The Left has become an ongoing distraction from reality.

Sit and spin on that one, Mr. deflector of communications for the Michigan Democratic Party.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    Wrong Again

He picked the wrong side of the argument once again.

Saul Anuzis former RNC committeeman still has it in for the man who replaced him, OR he really does like promotion of homosexuality, and that which it carries in its side car.  Either way, he has made his bed with Dennis Lennox, and other young progressives in the party who wish to pander to the baser instincts of the forbidden fruits.

But ignoring the results of such pandering and adjustment of social conscience to the legal protections we afford our youth is some bad Juju.  Just ask prosecutors in Florida:

"The case involves Kaitlyn Ashley Hunt, an 18-year-old in Sebastian, Florida, who was arrested in February after admitting that she had a lesbian affair with a 14-year high-school freshman. .. It is a felony in Florida to have sex with 14-year-olds. Hunt was expelled from Sebastian High School -- where she and the younger girl had sex in a restroom stall -- and charged with two counts of "felony lewd and lascivious battery on a child." The charges could put Hunt in prison for up to 15 years.  ..

Using the slogan "Stop the Hate, Free Kate" ..

Portraying Hunt as the victim of prejudice, her supporters claim she was only prosecuted because she is homosexual and because the parents of the unnamed 14-year-old are "bigoted religious zealots," as Hunt's mother said in a poorly written Facebook post. The apparent public-relations strategy was described by Matthew Philbin of Newsbusters: "If you can play the gay card, you immediately trigger knee-jerk support from the liberal media and homosexual activists anxious to topple any and all rules regarding sex."

    Rules, right?

Rules mean NOTHING when reason is toppled. In the above case, we see the natural progress of 'political correctness.'

And Saul's effort to vilify his esteemed replacement relies on just that method.  By contextually abusing comments of Ronald Reagan, and confusing actual bigotry with a conscious  disassociation to unhealthy lifestyles, he is solidifying his support for unhealthy, and nontraditional physical relationships.

    Go below the fold.

The Arcane Voice of Kerry '04 Granholm '06 and Obama '08 Doth Saith

The ongoing bleat from the lunatic of many convictions, presented without further delay, the entrenched homophile Twitiot.

    Former #Michigan Gov. William Milliken joins Gov. @OneToughNerd in condemning #RNC's Dave Agema record-eagle.com/opinion/x12212... #MIGOP #GOP #MIGov

Some reminders of history, lest they be repeated, obviously need reflection:

1969-1982:  William G. Milliken.  Thirteen years in Office.  Environmental extremist.  Chummy chum chum's with perhaps the most corrupt Mayor of Detroit ever.  But, it was smart of 'ol milquetoast Willy, that was his voting base.  Kerry backer... Granholm backer... Obama backer... As Paul Ryan would say about Newt Gingrich, "With friends like him..."  How this twaddling old tool still keeps calling himself a Republican is beyond disgusting.

Helen Milliken a proud eugenicist?  You betchya!  Not supposed to mention such atrocities... Shhhhhhhhh!  And, how can one forget...

Omitted: Made Jim Blanchard Look Appealing to Voters

Now, wayward, petty, and pedantic child, you carry on with that polarizing the MI-GOP into obsolescence.

    I stand with Dave.

    Residential Property Values - DESTROYED

Another day, and yet another quality of life story on the hidden costs of Michigan's green energy policy.

Local officials and Consumers Energy are at odds over whether a wind plant located south of Ludington meets safety standards.

Those living close to the wind plant continue to be exposed daily to the turbines and their apparent negative impact on health and quality of life.

Allegations that Lake Winds Energy Plant has significant safety issues are not new. On April 1, area residents filed a lawsuit claiming noise, vibrations and flickering lights generated by the 56 turbine facility are adversely impacting their health. Dizziness, sleeplessness and headaches are among the symptoms noted in the lawsuit.

    REST

You know what goes unmentioned about who is making a profitable living off this junk science wealth redistribution scheme? Lawyers. You name it, from them changing a bill originated in the Senate into a tax bill, which is now deemed health insurance law under the Unaffordable Care Act, to lawsuits like this - lawyers win. Jefferson warned that lawyers will lay all things at their feet, and they are too well versed in English law to forget the maxim, "boni judicis est ampliare juris-dictionem."  We all now live that today. Doubt me, then take it from those with a law degree.

What surprises me (and it shouldn't) is that nobody in the legislature has called out the Snyder administration for destroying evidence. Then again, perhaps a reason for that is explained rather well in comment, here.  Still, that's not a good enough excuse for our Forth Highest Compensated in Lansing. Note: "Such legislatures not only cost less; they also tend to spend less."

Speaking of the necessity for a Part-time legislature, it is observed, the always on the wrong side of the tracks Dennis Lennox, stays his quisling rails of squeaky wheel epic Progressivism failure.

    Motivational Posters

We've all seen the motivational posters that truly inspire excellence.

Even a 'De-motivational' line has appeared inspiring laughter from all who recognize their own weaknesses, and failings.  Even the low resolution versions of those became 'viral' for a time, and caused many to try and duplicate based on their own version of irony and truth telling. Alas, we are not immune to the allure of entertainment with the truth, and nothing but the truth.

    Glass houses indeed.

Youth Is Indestructible - (Or Who Needs Wendy?)

When we are young we know we'll never die.

Maybe we never have to grow up?

All risks are worth it. We have nothing to lose, so risky behavior is more frequent than that of old people like most of the regulars here.  Nothing puts a little perspective on the value of health, and a place on the right hand of God than the impending end of our physical presence on earth.

Typically, it starts when the grandparents are no longer there.  Perch fishing with Grandpa no longer can drive home the fact that there is an end to the road in some way. After that, the passing of parents, siblings or close friends from school days long passed, and all the experiences and close calls in the meantime develop a healthy dose of respect for the place we will spend eternity. And how soon we get there will have a lot to do with the personal responsibility, acknowledged in, or outside of youthful discretion.

I jumped off rooftops to prove I was cool as a teen. My brothers (ahem) may have climbed to the top of a 50 thousand watt WKAR tower in Okemos in the 70s. And once by luck, my Mother [God bless her soul] found a young dumb 14 year old Jason choking to death in the manner of Led Zepplin Drummer John Bonham.

I have never drank a whole bottle of Bacardi with Coke in a single setting since.

There is no doubt that risky behavior is a bigger part of youth than those who have seen the results of such behavior first hand, or that have developed an appreciation by virtue of near misses on their own or by loved ones.  Though I was lucky to have survived many stupid exploits, many pay dearly for such antics as trying to fly like a lost boy under tinkerbell's guidance.

And the liberal world view as equally immature, compels such activity as well.

    More below the fold ~
