    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Getting Health Care Policy Right

State Representative Greg MacMaster (R-105) has provided a little insight to the past year's health care debate, and his participation in the process.

"Bait and switch," a term he uses to describe the promises and ultimate product, is no stranger to any government program designed to help so many.  He writes:

"In 2012, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development found that the United States leads the world in health care research and disease treatment.

For the 85% of Americans that have health insurance, the access they have to cutting edge, life saving technologies is among the very best in the world.

But not every American has insurance, with upwards of 49 million being uninsured, according to the 2010 Census.

The question for policy makers in Lansing and in Washington should be what to do to help the 15% gain access to the quality care that the rest of us have.

Unfortunately, Washington and Lansing's answer has been to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

In 2010, Congress passed, and President Obama signed, the widely unpopular and flawed Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Among the provisions of this act is enticing Michigan to put an additional 300,000 citizens on Medicaid with the promise that the federal government would pay for taxpayers' additional costs.

When the expansion was first voted on in the House, I supported it. This wasn't really Obamacare, we were told. This was Michigan getting its fair share back from Washington.

It initially seemed like a good deal for Michigan taxpayers, who receive back only $0.80 for every tax dollar they send to Washington.

But there was more to the bill.

Lt Gov @briancalley stood w/ me from day one when I decided to run for Congress. He's a great friend & ally, and I'm honored to support him.

    11:47 AM - 26 Aug 2013

How do you like them apples, Wes Nakagiri?  TEA folk?  Yessirree, 'ol constitutional Justin just face-wedgied all those opposing Snyder's Obamacare Medicaid Expansion by palling around with the deciding vote.

Yannow, I had planned on doing a flattering writeup on the 5 U.S. Reps from Michigan, who signed a commitment to defund Obamacare but, with this loosely wrapped clown from CD-3 working with the Snyder administration to backdoor Obamacare entanglements in this state - screw Justin.  At least I know Camp, Miller, Rogers, and Upton, will never be Conservative, unlike that all over the map Amash Liberaltarian Bee-esS.

Was away from everything news related for the past few days, and not to be surprised with my return to an interesting blurb in mLive the other day (Nope. Not linking to them) that it is still SSDD in the sociopathic world of politics.

"The emergency manager has met with the White House and members of the state's congressional delegation, and these meetings focused on how the federal government can assist in Detroit's restructuring," said Orr's spokesperson Bill Nowling in an email message. "At each of those meetings it was made clear that a federal bailout is not a possibility."

    Let that sink in.

Nobody is interested in bailing out LBJ's "model city" Detroit.  N-O-B-O-D-Y.  Sure, the Congressional Black Caucus has gone whining to race-baiter-in-chief, president Odowngrade², with JoAnn's "bring home some bacon" meme, but that narrative is as common as the sun rising in the East.  Besides, preezy Soetoro's agenda is already booked with making this entire nation look like Detoilet, so, how in the Hell can he bail out Detoilet?  Barry can't.  All of D.C. knows that bailing out Detoilet is opening Pandora's box.  Think Killadelphia isn't just around the corner on going teats up?  Think again.  It is poison for the Democratic Socialist Party in 2014 as much as implementing Obummercare is, and completely lethal for Hillary PUMA's in 2016.  Don't even go there about BJ and Mrs. Secretary Benghazi - they know damn well they've got damage control issues on their hands.

However, click on the Full Story button.  I want you all to meet a very real-life Charlie Gordon character from Daniel Keyes' award winning short story.

If I hadn't read it with my own eyes...

Working w/ my good friend @briancalley to welcome new Rs to @MIGOP who care about limited government, economic freedom & individual liberty.

Really, Justin?  Working with those trying to implement Obamacare entanglements in Michigan, isn't exactly what I would describe as a Republican value.

I rescind my opinion - both suck.

Just noticed the fine folks over at mLive are fanning the bogus "War on Wimmins" flames.

In their own words: Why are there so few women in the Michigan legislature?

Two words provide the accurate answer: women voters.  They make up over half the population.  Time to quit b!tching about y'all gots your chil'rens that come first, girls.  Well, unless they'd like to admit that the Progressives put them back on the serf plantation in 1920.

A house divided will not stand.

-For the first time since 1975, the number of white single-mother households who were living in poverty with children surpassed or equaled black ones in the past decade, spurred by job losses and faster rates of out-of-wedlock births among whites. White single-mother families in poverty stood at nearly 1.5 million in 2011, comparable to the number for blacks. Hispanic single-mother families in poverty trailed at 1.2 million.

Just sayin' ...and good luck with that.

Besides Rick Snyder, same 'ol same old... Amnesty for gatecrashers.

The immigration overhaul passed by the U.S. Senate could put a big squeeze on the budgets of state and local governments.

The proposal does not help states pay for costs incurred by required policy changes, including ramped up English classes and greater access to public hospitals and health clinics.

"Potentially, we are going to create a financial catastrophe for states and localities," said Sheri Steisel, senior federal affairs counsel and a human services expert at the National Conference of State Legislatures. "The states will end up with the cost and consequences of the federal decision-making, with very little resources to rely on to make up the difference."

    MORE

Not that the self-invented Nerd persona since being sworn to his Oath has done a damn thing about that "big squeeze" anyway.  Why Hell, stealth Democrat Rick Michigan has even fought his own Secretary of State, Ruth Johnson, over providing gatecrashers a driver license, squashing voter verification, and placing the Lawless to the front of the line ahead of American citizens.

Michiganders must really enjoy being little more than Debt Slaves.  Wolverines - do not.  Frankly, I don't see a snowball's chance in Hell that Snyder will be a second term anything in this state, but go ahead "liberty-minded network" with squandering your time and resources on Calley.

Little known fact: Rick Snyder found the former governor's crack pipe.

A wisp of SOMETHING is animating the Governor throughout this summer.  Its not been this site alone that sees it either.  Tim Skubick notes Snyder's 'spirit' of Granholm shining through:

"This is about caring about one another," Gov. Rick Snyder has been telling audiences as he crisscrosses the state trying to nudge the public into proving that they concur. It is shades of Ms. Granholm, pure and simple.
    What a champ.

Because it is So very compassionate to empower the left by imprisoning a whole new segment of our population with dependence on government.  When the choice to move forward for that tiny little 2 or 3 point improvement in salary meets the cost of lost insurance coverage as a result, it makes little sense to go forward.

So ready your personal shackles Michigan's middle class, you're about to be blown away.

    Again.

Teh Stoopid Party in Michigan remains dead to me.

If anything, Majority Leader Randy Richardville said, he saved Gov. Rick Snyder from a big defeat more than two weeks ago by not calling a vote on House legislation to expand eligibility for government-provided health insurance to 320,000 low-income adults in 2014. The Republican governor had cut short a trade trip in Israel to return home and lobby the GOP-dominated Senate.

"I think he was convinced that the votes were there. I'm in the room where those votes get counted," Richardville, of Monroe, told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday, the day he outlined his expectations for a Senate workgroup that will study Medicaid expansion this summer.

"This debate, this issue, is alive because I provided leadership on this issue based on the feedback from the Senate Republican caucus. This thing was dead if we had taken a vote when it was being demanded that we take a vote. It wasn't a gentle request. There was a demand and then after the demand there was a - they called it a press conference. I've got other words to describe it, but I'm not going to use them."

Give him credit - he came through, we read.  A special thank you, we read.

GMAFB. There isn't enough paint on the planet for trying the "happy face" schtick with loser Snyder and Schostak at the helm.
