I am not celebrating this as a way to point out the insipid nature of Harry Reid and Michigan's US Senators.
They already fulfill a centuries old prophesy that politicians eventually would be not born, but would instead be excreted. Indeed, of all the dumb things Democrats could do with US Senate rules, this one takes the cake. It's called the nuclear option for a reason. Democrats will regret this decision when Republicans take over the Senate in 2014 and win the Presidency in 2016. It was only a few short years ago that the GOP held the Congress and White House. The RNC as a great research piece on what top Democrats said then....
In 2005, Then-Sen. Barack Obama Called For His Colleagues Considering The Nuclear Option To Think About "Protecting Free And Democratic Debate." SEN. BARACK OBAMA: "Mr. President, I rise today to urge my colleagues to think about the implications of what has been called the nuclear option and what effect that might have on this Chamber and on this country. I urge all of us to think not just about winning every debate but about protecting free and democratic debate." (Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), Floor Remarks, Washington, DC, 4/13/05)

OK Progtards, put your anti religion unit on high alert.
No? While advocating for a Godless school system, progressives have conveniently ignored the hypocritical actions of extremist Muslims in our midst, which if allowed would turn some Michigan schools into full blown publicly funded Madrasas. According to BizPac Review, after objecting to Off-school CHRISTIAN activities, CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) has succeeded in persuading Dearborn school officials to accommodate the floor kissing practice of Islamic prayer in our tax payer funded schools: "CAIR lodged its complaint against the Dearborn School District, claiming that the school system didn't accommodate Muslim students wishing to participate in prayer on school grounds.Nothing like 'consistency' in public policy. As seen further in the story: The very same Michigan chapter of CAIR sent a letter to the Roseville Public School system complaining that permission slips were being handed out so that students could attend Bible classes, according to a CAIR press release.I am sure that the governor or AG would have something to say about THAT. Well, its just time to break out the old cartoon again.
A Republican, Rick Snyder, is the father of the MEDC. It was his baby, and lest anyone forget, it was created under the Republican Engler administration. The MEDC, which has yet to produce a model that definitively demonstrates taking taxpayer funds, then giving those funds to hand picked "winners" produces net economic growth in our state. The MEDC which essentially could be called a taxpayer funded venture capital scam. The MEDC's MEGA, The state of Michigan through Tax Breaks, and the DOE, which gave us that "success story" A123 systems.: "When A123 Systems announced it was opening its lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant in Livonia in September 2010, then Gov. Jennifer Granholm wrote about it on the Huffington Post calling it "a Recovery Act success story." Yeah, that's a winner. In fact doing so well, taxpayers should be happy to know that the top brass in the company thanks them for providing a generous raise. But wait, I was talking about Republicans right? Right. - Below the fold. (4 comments, 1158 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
Henry Payne at the view, reflects on the "Torch Lake Limo Lib's" appearance with Stephen Colbert and notes the feckless filmmaker Michael Moore is convinced he is on a mission, that he has been chosen.
He is the one to save the unions. Reports Payne: Michael Moore told host Stephen Colbert that "because we have been chosen by God, we have a responsibility to make sure we help people." ... Save the orphanage of abandoned principles Michael. Funny how the very thing that allows your daily 114,000 calorie diet to continue unimpeded, is the capital you have accumulated from selling sucker's brew. It sure didn't take long for the Dingellosaurus to do the Walk Back.
"I have a tremendous amount of confidence in Mayor Bing, and my comments about Detroit yesterday were a reflection on past Administrations that helped dig the hole the city finds itself in, not on the current Administration that is trying desperately to get the city out of the hole. I am and always have worked for the betterment of the City and its people, and I intend to continue that course..." Okay, Bing deserved the feigned apology. But. That wasn't what Johnny was "sniping". Dingell was blatantly "targeting" Governors. Unmistakably that'd have to point to fellow Democrat Governor Jennifer Granholm. Not to mention Dingells' reference to all "Stone-Agers" err, Conservative Republicans. Oh, Johnny... is there anything that he won't say? (314 words in story) Full Story By Theblogprof, Section News
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. - Isiah 5:20Abortion = sacred work. I kid you not! And I wish I did. Northland Family Planning Centers of Michigan, in an advertisement not only call abortion a sacred work, but also state that they "believe in the goodness of our work." The sacred goodness of tearing a conscious baby limb from limb. How insulting is that to simple human decency? These people are just sick. Here's the advertisement, which is dry heave-inducing (HT: Creative Minority Report): Possibly the most twisted statement in the whole video is this one: We do sacred work that honors women and the circle of life and death. When you come here bring only love.Yeah - bring only love, and an innocent life, because they will bring the death. You know - to complete the circle or something. Sick. More below the fold... The One and his minions continue to pursue their radical agenda, wrapped in pleasant-sounding, benign terminology. To combat the fact that conservatives dominate the free market of ideas on talk radio, they want to bring back the so-called "Fairness Doctrine," which will force otherwise rational media outlets to air rejected liberal opinions because it's "fair" to do so. Think about Air America being rammed down your throat -- that's the Fairness Doctrine. Isn't it enough that we have to contend with the WNBA?
The latest threat to freedom and the free market is the equally benign-sounding "Net Neutrality" being pushed by the Democrats over at the FCC. Anyone who uses, reads, writes, or depends on the internet should be frightened by this concept. Here's how it works: right now, internet service providers are free to charge behemoth websites (think Google, Amazon, Twitter) to access their bandwith, while they are free to charge less to other, smaller users, or even to make access free. This freedom -- to price their services as they see fit -- has generated tremendous growth in the internet and the increasingly related area of mobile communications. And Democrats wonder why fewer and fewer people trust them these days.
Last fall as Lefty Diane Hathaway traveled the state campaigning against then-incumbent Cliff Taylor for a seat on the Michigan Supreme Court she frequently employed one particularly pithy line of attack. Taylor, she argued again and again, was a "walking conflict of interest" because the man's wife used to serve as Governor John Engler's chief legal counsel and he had the gall to rule on laws enacted during the Engler administration. That was her argument. Got the "logic?" His spouse was a lawyer for the Engler administration thus, according to Hathaway, Taylor should have recused himself and declined to cast a vote on any issue tangentially connected to former Engler policy. Diane Hathway's husband is an auto insurance lawyer. By her own logic... her own passionately delivered campaign season arguments, Hathaway has a clear conflict of interest in any case dealing with the insurance industry... perhaps more of a conflict of interest, even, than her one-time opponent since her husband, unlike Taylor's wife, stands to potentially make a lot of money depending on her handling of certain cases affecting the insurance industry. The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association made that argument themselves earlier this year when they argued Hathaway should recuse herself from a case dealing with one particularly massive claim. So this judge... this paragon of virtue... she practiced what she'd preached, right? Yeah, not so much. According to the Detroit News:
The association's stance is HER stance. A direct duplicate. They could have sent her one of her own press releases. And the three Republicans on the Court noticed. Justices Maura Corrigan, Robert Young and Stephen Markman are reminding their newest colleague that hypocrisy is an unpleasant thing. The News continues:
Hathaway wrote she would not respond to her colleagues' "inappropriate and unnecessary" comments. "This court should discontinue devoting the state's limited resources to unproductive colloquy," she said. Interesting to note that the state may well have significantly fewer of those limited resources if she continues casting votes that could fatten her husband's pockets at the expense of the rest of our wallets but that's neither here nor there. Still, there's a part of me that wants to give Hathaway some credit... sure, the woman is dishonest to the bone, and sure, it turns out voters can trust her about as far as they can log toss Mark Brewer, but she may have set a new land speed record for major campaign policy u-turns. So she's got that going for her. (4 comments) Comments >>
