  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Tell me again why we "need" a gas tax hike, Gov. Snyder?

Despite the overwhelming lack of support from Michigan Motorists, Michigan Legislators (unless your name happens to be either Wayne Schmidt or Roger Kahn), and anyone else not associated with MITA, the word on the street is that just like the Energizer Bunny, Gov. Snyder is still going and going at it behind the scenes trying to get another one of his tax hikes approved.

This is coming from a man who loves to make local units of government jump through hoops to get money from the state.

He'll require graphs, charts, metrics, notarized forms signed in triplicate and your mother's maiden name before even considering appropriating any money.

Unfortunately, he still won't hold himself to the very same standard that he requires of others.

    Why is that?

Gas Tax: Be it State or Federal, Schemers do Scheme

While we all await the Governerd's State of the State address focusing on infrastructure, I just happened to come across another gas tax scam the Feds are toying with again, via The Examiner

An on-again, off-again move by the Obama administration to scrap the federal gas tax in favor of a pay-per-mile fee would boost the tab to Americans as high as 250 percent, raising their current tax of 18.4 cents a gallon to as high as 46 cents, according to a new government study.

But without a tax increase, said the Government Accountability Office study, the government's highway fund is going to go dry.

    MORE

Yannow, for the life of me, I just can't begin to imagine the many reasons why the road funds would go dry?

Anyone up for the Governerd's bike trail from Detroit to Wisconsin?  WDIV's Roger Weber says, "wouldn't it be a blast".

    Detroit, Michigan.

    About one month ago.

Governor Snyder refuses to release several million dollars in bond money to keep the City of Detroit running until it can show quantifiable financial benchmarks to demonstrate that it is on-track towards fiscal responsibility.

The whole "rearranging-the-deckchairs-on-the-Titanic" argument notwithstanding, on the surface it is the most prudent thing to do.

Don't give irresponsible people any more money to waste until they show a little responsibility with what they already have.

If only that management principle remained constant.
