    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Survey Says!

    Replacing Snyder is preferred.

An iCaucus commissioned poll of Republican delegates is revealing the rift between the progressive left governor and the base of the Republican party in Michigan.  Respondents have to this point said Rick needs to go, and well beyond the margin of error.

Should Governor Rick Snyder face a primary challenger in 2014?

Preliminary and unofficial results currently show a 46.79% Replace Snyder preference to a 37.93% Keep Snyder Preference, with a 15.29% unsure percentage.  Margin of error currently +/-3.87% with 650 respondents with 95% confidence.

The polling also ranks a number of possible contenders in head to head ratings. The names of will be revealed on Saturday, currently showing one possibility polling stronger differentially than the generic count against the governor, and others within the margin of error, and others losing to him.

The need to replace Brian Calley is not quite as clear.  38.84 % support replacing the LT Governor, while 35.32% do not, and a heavy 25.84% remain unsure.  This falls within the margin of error, and cannot be seen as a mandate.

    Watch for weekend updates.

Endorsement-Gate, is this how the game is played?

On November 19th, 2012, I received a call from a staffer on behalf of Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak, asking me for my endorsement for his reelection. At least three times during the phone conversation, I stated, "I want to see who else is going to run first, I will NOT make an endorsement for anyone until January. If I do decide to endorse Bobby, I will give you a call back in January." I still haven't called back.

On December 8th, 2012 while attending the Michigan Republican Party State Committee Meeting, I came across a pile of fliers. "Bobby Schostak for Chair - Overwhelming Grassroots Support!"

It was a list consisting of State Committee Members, District Chairs, County Chairs, Tea Party Leaders, and Grassroots Activists. Going through the list, my endorsement appeared, Oscoda County Chairman - Doug Davis.

I was immediately upset and offended that my statement of not endorsing ANYONE until January was not taken seriously, even after stating it THREE TIMES, especially being the newly elected Oscoda County Chair for the Michigan Republican Party!

To make matters worse, an email of the list was sent out on December 7th, 2012 to the entire state Republican Party, which I didn't receive until the day after the State Committee Meeting.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    These Libertarians? They're a Joke.

Cross-posted in The Wizard of Laws.

Just returned to the Emerald City from day one of the State GOP Convention, during which each congressional district chose its national convention delegates.  In The Wiz's district, a total of six delegates were selected, three of whom have no business representing the party at the national convention.

During the presidential primary in February, our district voted for Mitt Romney.  So, our delegates have to commit to vote for Romney at least through the first ballot at the national convention.  In order to be considered for national delegate, each person had to sign an affidavit stating he or she would vote for Romney.

So, what's the problem?  Three of the delegates voted in by our district were selected by bloc votes cast by those committed to a former Libertarian now claiming to be a Republican, who puts one in mind of Professor Irwin Corey.  Not only were votes cast as a bloc, they were withheld from other candidates as a bloc, under orders from campaign organizers.

Open Thread - Secretary Of State Candidates

If you were running as a precinct delegate, you were called.  If you won one of those seats, you were called again.. twice.

If you managed to swing a seat at the state convention, you might well get a personal call from one of the candidates..  Maybe from a family member.

    Any stories to tell yet?

    SOS and AG races?

I am in the unusual position of being on a ballot twice.  I had filled out the paperwork for a delegate spot, and the last minute decision to run for county commission doubled my exposure..

And I have found that running for delegate is like putting on a perfume that attracts a certain species of politico.  All of a sudden, mailings from prospective SOS, and AG candidates appear, and special surveys for delegates become a part of the daily calls coming in.

And I was never one of the popular kids in school.

I have to say, the ability to cast a vote for a strong Attorney General Candidate as well as the Secretary of State to go forward and face the choice of the Dems is quite a special deal.  At least the attention paid to those who might would suggest it is.

    And they are right.
