Due to the short amount of time between the county and state conventions, information packets will NOT be mailed to state convention delegates. PLEASE DISTRIBUTE all necessary information (forms provided) to convention delegates at your County Convention. We will email convention information following the county conventions. Thus says the cover memo of the May 2012 Convention Packet e-mailed out from the Michigan Republican Party, back in March, to the County Chairs & Secretaries. Of particular interest should be Enclosures 14, 15, and 16:

So, since this thing that I broke the story on two days ago has managed to make it to the national news media, I took the time to sit down over my evening coffee last night and channeled my high school debate coach (the late Bayard Gum), specifically a few things he taught me about how to reach a logically-solid conclusion.

Indiana TEA Partiers flush their career Senate RINO.
via USA Today
Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana was defeated in the state's Republican primary Tuesday, ending the 36-year career of a GOP elder statesman and handing the Tea Party movement its biggest upset victory so far in the 2012 elections. Love it. (1 comment) Comments >> By Kevin Rex Heine, Section News

Yesterday, State Representative Dave Agema submitted his Convention Candidate Affidavit of Candidacy to the MIGOP Policy Committee (via the State Party Chairman), complete with the approval signatures of eight district chairs. Now, it's officially on. And an indication of how this campaign is going to be fought is the name that's showed up on my caller ID five times in the past 36 hours (though he somehow hasn't yet seen fit to leave a message on my voicemail).

You may remember me mentioning the Independence Caucus of Michigan in the context of the 2010 Michigan Secretary of State Republican Primary or this year's republican U. S. Senate primary. However, a couple of days ago I received an e-mail from a key member of the organization's leadership that indicated that they'd be getting involved in one of this year's convention races.
