Where else but the Obama 'petition' site is the calling out for Agema's Resignation. Using the site favored by low information voters for its pretense of reaching the president himself, One of the signers of the other petition, Timothy Maurer, "Greater Detroit Area Republican" has continued to advance such greatness as Homosexuality, destruction of family, spread of disease, and the neo-RINO mentality. Bravo young Maurer! Obama will invite you for a beer summit soon to discuss your 'concern'. What a champ! What a hero to young Pizza munchers who want to be Republicans, but can't because they don't like personal responsibility, family values, the first amendment, or anything else that Republicans stand for! What a supporter of strong families, and tradition, by holding Barack Obama's hand and opening up the internal debate of Michigan Republicans into a place where the left can emerge from the underbelly of our nation and weigh in with their agenda for advanced personal destruction. Support as expressed by a [non-Republican] Jennifer from Holland: " I am not Republican, though I hold many of the values they proclaim to support: I believe in strong families, based in commitment to one another and their communities. I believe in helping those less fortunate than myself and allowing people to believe what they wish, as long as their beliefs do not cause harm or loss to others. I have been married for 13 years and we have a son we are raising to be a good human being. But you would deny me my family of 13 years simply because my spouse is another woman. ... "Ooooh snap! And that son will learn tolerance! And will learn how to be intolerant of intolerance to promote tolerance of the intolerable! Yes MR. Maurer, you seek "a big tent" with no walls. Am I right? Is that what you desire? Bravo then, as you have found a way to do it by reaching out to those who are destroying the rest of the culture, energy, defense, budget, science, education, and last but not least, freedom of religion. Perhaps the role of the Michigan Republican party should be examined.
What is the purpose of a political party? Asking nearly anyone in politics, the most common answer is that it is to raise money and elect candidates. A simple enough reason to exist, utilizing varying methods of fundraising and activities to realize the desired result. Goals are made, (elect the candidate) and presumably the shortest route is plotted to achieve those goals. Most folks might even think this accomplishes what is necessary to be properly represented; "we got our guy in", and "now there is nothing to worry about". That particular perspective is lazy, presumptuous, and frankly pretty dangerous when one considers the power (and trust) we vest in our elected officials. The Republican party ought not be so relaxed in its commonly accepted role of managing the benevolence of donors, keeping a place in line for electoral hopefuls, and delivering the occasional platitude release berating the opposing party however. Opposition because some are on the other side often follows, but that it provides red-meat for the membership is nearly too simple and unimaginative. And it is incomplete as other responsibilities become more clear alongside the breakdown of the social fabric and dissolution of individual liberties we face in multiple affronts daily. The purpose for the existence of the Michigan Republican party could be driven so much more clearly, and the basis for action already exists within the organization. We DO have a platform, do we not? Certainly, if I had planned well enough, I could have made it to the island. I really wanted to go.
In the last two weeks, I have had at least 5 separate invitations to participate in conference activities. Each of them more tempting than the last. Maybe next time. And as it turned out, the business needed my presence Friday, and today the funeral for a friend's father. And overall, my significant other who has suffered well through the miscellany of political activities that keep us apart too often, seems to be happy.
The Lord does indeed work in many mysterious ways. As noted a couple of days ago, there was a concern I penned about Michelle Bachmann endorsing Pete Hoekstra, who would not go on record supporting right to work. As expected there was a bit of noise going on in the background throughout the state party and establishment types. As expected it was picked up in a national piece the following day. Strategic National (Yob) who is managing Hoekstra's campaign likely had not planned for the "Tea Party" blast advertisement to come out a day early, as the "official" endorsement was to come out the next day. It did. the "Tea Party" email blast by the way, is from merely another group who likely believes in most Tea Party values, yet is willing to capitalize on the theme as much as it is there to advance it. This site for example will take advertising from nearly anyone who doesn't violate core principles. I get it. Hoekstra saw the writing on the wall. You might recall some of the other "retirements" just prior to the 2010 elections, where US congress critters decided to call it quits rather than be humiliated at the polls. Those elections were so bad for the Democrats, that even the president coined the event as a "shellacking."
While the pundits attempt to watch the Tea Kettle boil, those liberals in congress who for years have failed their constituents and saddled our youth with decades of unmanageable debt, are seeing their futures as bleak indeed. Frustration is seeing an unprecedented opportunity to fix the labor hold on Michigan and watching that opportunity potentially slip away because legislators seem to have forgotten already, the force that hired them. Frustration is knowing the CO2 scam has not yet been fully purged, and that there are still government implementations being put in place to solve the non-existent problem. Including in Michigan and even locally. Frustration is seeing some of the good things like elimination of the MBT being accomplished not by straight out cutting, but by a shift to other victims. Frustration is not having enough time to offer all the solutions we have properly, because those solutions are nearly immediately eclipsed by the next round of idiotic government actions designed to create more issues that complicate the previous ones. Frustration is having a skill and not being able to apply it, because of an unconstitutional application of federal law, and the failure of the states to assert their authority, and protect the rights that guarantee the ability to use that skill. THE guy... Who is now arguably one of the most powerful players in the state. While Michigan enjoys a brief respite from its Democrat domination, we have the opportunity to 'fix' a number of things that are wrong, that have been created by the blown away mentality of the left, and their queen. We have the ONE CHANCE to enact legislation that will fundamentally change the way Michigan does business. Perhaps in ways that some would have liked to do before, but were considered 'third rail' because of the politics and thuggery in Lansing. Don't know if you've heard anything about this but apparently there's something big and fancy happening in Washington, DC today. Something about an inaugural and history and yes we can hope for change. It's been on the news.
And while we little people have to sit at home in an icy, very much global-warming-free climate hoping for the change that Michigan needs in the worst way, the people we elected to deliver it for us here at the state level are out of the state getting ready to attend fancy balls this evening. Sure, plenty of political hacks and activists and volunteers made their way to the inaugural, and good for them. This is their day. They want to self-identify with an incoming administration that has pledged to make its first official act all about making it easier to kill cute little innocent babies via the Freedom of Choice Act, hey, that's between them and their maker. I know I wouldn't want to self-identify with that particular administration but I have what at least approaches a healthy fear of the almighty. And karma. Particularly frustrating on a personal level that our supposedly pro-life Speaker of the House, Andy Dillon, is away from Michigan attending the festivities, jovially celebrating the arrival of a political climate that will be openly hostile to innocent life. But he still finds a way to sleep at night and manages to justify each of his two faces and that's worthy of a round of applause. (Pictured at right are Dillon with lefty political consultant and radio personality Kerry Ebersole. Apparently this one popped up on Facebook with a headline indicating it was taken yesterday in DC.) Of course, he's not the only prominent lefty who's taken the opportunity to abandon the ship here in Michigan to go party it up instead. The Associated Press highlights the different approaches to potential state stimulus cash headed this direction via massive new deficit spending by congressional Democrats. The most obvious difference is that our local lefties want to use the cash to cover up their own budgeting mistakes by erasing red ink while Republican leaders in the House want instead to apply the cash, if it has to come, the way it seems to be intended, to sponsor work projects and give some of unemployed families a chance at a paycheck.
