Don't endorse a primary candidate if YOU are a primary candidate unless you are running as a slate.
If Michelle Bachmann is even aware of the thing (below the line) that is being sent out, she has made a GRAVE error. Signing on for any single US Senate candidate when trying to establish a broad base of your own is problematic enough, but with 4 other declared candidates, you risk spooking an entire pool of voters. Its done it to me.
Michelle, here is a clue: I don't know of any Tea Party actives who think Hoekstra is worthy of their support. There may be quite a few, but in the circles I run, Randy Hekman, Gary Glenn,Peter Konetchy, or even Clark Durant would be more acceptable.
TARP, failure to endorse Right-To-Work, and an entrenched DC mentality are other clues that might give you a picture of who Hoekstra is. The guy is willing to throw Michigan under the bus for the likes of Jimmy Hoffa.
Yeah. Tea Party. Yay!
More below.
This is the email I received today.
Dear Patriot:
Michele Bachmann knows that this is our chance.
Michele knows that in 2012 we have a chance to end the reign of Harry Reid and Barack Obama. We have a chance to end their years of gigantic deficits, enormous trillion dollar tax increases, and government intervention in our healthcare decisions.
"Pete's a great friend with a real vision for helping Michigan to lead the fight against the Obama / Stabenow agenda. Replacing Barack Obama with a Constitutional Conservative is vital, but we also need an overhaul in the U.S. Senate. Pete Hoekstra is a real conservative. He joined me in starting the House Tea Party Caucus, and we need him as Michigan's next Senator. This is your opportunity to send a strong message to Washington by electing a Senator who will work to restore the freedom that will put Michigan back to work with a pro-growth economy." Michele Bachmann
Will you join Michele and help me put together a winning campaign? I need to raise an additional $25,000 online in these final days before the September 30th fundraising deadline.
Will you donate today?
With President Barack Obama's poll numbers dropping here in Michigan along with Senator Stabenow's, this is our best opportunity to take this U.S. Senate seat. This Election. This time.
Six years from now when Stabenow is again up for re-election it will be too late.
Harry Reid knows this and is doing everything he can to make sure the Democrats keep this seat, including holding a fundraiser for Senator Stabenow next week in Las Vegas. We need to raise money to compete with the special interests who are allowed to contribute as much as $10,000 each to her campaign. However, I'm confident we can fight back with $15 donations from grassroots supporters just like you.
Will you consider a $35, $65 or $100 contribution today?
Together, we can do this.
For the cause,
Pete Hoekstra
Republican Candidate, US Senate (MI)
P.S. Michele Bachmann has endorsed my campaign for U.S. Senate in Michigan against Debbie Stabenow. We need your help to take this seat back and restore fiscal sanity in Washington! Harry Reid is pulling out all the stops and holding a fundraiser for Senator Stabenow next week in Las Vegas. Please help us fight back against the special interests who are allowed to contribute as much as $10,000 each to her campaign. Will you donate today?
I know it was an ad sent out by the "National Tea Party Alert" which demonstrates very well, profit can override common sense.
I wonder openly if Bachmann actually gave permission for this. No campaign manager worth his salt would allow an open endorsement that could split so many from the ranks. Why in hell would you risk alienating all the supporters who rally around ANY candidate's opponents? So yes I wonder if it is legit. If so, I want my $20 back, as it proves that management team incapable of putting an ear to the ground.
If not, it further demonstrates the degenerate nature of entrenched politics that is no stranger to even our own party.
