And a "twenty pound carp."
All wonderful considerations made yesterday by voters all over the state of Michigan. Yes, the winner of attention, but sadly not the winner at the ballot box in Ann Arbor's 4th ward city commission race.

Our tax dollars at work...
LANSING, Mich. - Secretary of State Ruth Johnson reminds residents that all SUPER!Centers as well as select PLUS and traditional offices will remain open on Election Day for customers who must conduct urgent business on that day. These overcompensated slugs need a whole paid day off to vote Democrat? WTF? YES on Prop 5 & 6 - NO on everything else! (3 comments) Comments >> By Corinthian Scales, Section News

The lib's at the Detroit Free Press (Detroit's liberal news paper) is making a big issue over a simple question on Michigan's August primary ballot.
Apparently many people (Democrats) are confused by this question: "Are you a United States Citizen?" (5 comments, 177 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
Many have pushed back on the idea of pictured ID being used to verify voters at the ballot box. Conservatives believe that voting is one of the most sacred institutions in our Republic.
In Michigan, voters are now required to provide photo ID to be able to vote in person. However, another issue must still be corrected: "Her toughest legislative hurdle will be to get "no reason" absentee voting adopted, Johnson said. Voters who are not disabled or under age 60 must currently give a reason for not voting on Election Day. Johnson is SPOT ON with her follow up of this loose end. Absentee voting is not a problem with the appropriate protections in place.
A recent 'gotcha' video by James O'Keefe demonstrates clearly, the need for identification before voting. The thought that wholesale fraud might occur (and likely has) with absentee registration that does not validate whom might be casting the vote ought to chill one to room temperature, wherein they might then be more qualified. This weekend is the 2011 MIGOP State Convention. If you're a voting delegate, and want to have a say in the party's direction for the 2012 election cycle, then you have at the very least a moral and ethical obligation to show up at both the District Caucus (Friday night) and the General Session (Saturday).

Glenn Wilson just cost me another $25. Money I really didn't expect to have to spend.
Not that I didn't want to support Benishek, or think he was not worth the $25 contribution. No.. Rather I didn't expect he would HAVE to spend a great amount of capital to win a race that should be so eminently winnable given the way in which Bart Stupak handled his affairs. The spending levels shouldn't HAVE to be so high, as the corrective juggernaut which is fueled by a responsible government sentiment is just now fully underway. I must give full credit to Jason Allen for his understanding the consequence of fighting among ourselves, and what copuld be viewed as self destructing because of a stroked ego. He took the high road. He understood oh-so-well, how its possible to wreck all that you stand for by allowing a personal, but misplaced sense of self to override a bit of common sense. How splitting hairs over 'perfect' stands on some issues before a congressional candidate, might be used only to split votes in an election. And maybe lose a few gains that were made in the process. According to reports from around the state, Dan Benishek has been officially declared the winner of the Republican primary contest for the 1st congressional district in Michigan. Dan Benishek received 27,077 votes with Jason Allen receiving 27,062. Benishek will go on to face Democrat pick Gary McDowell for the November election.
This is an "official win," however, challenges may still be made, and it is unclear if the Allen team will pursue any beyond this point. Another hitch in the situation might well be the arrival of a third party candidate, Glenn Wilson, a Rose City Businessman who has indicated he can self fund a reasonable bid of his own. Conservatives worry that Wilson will siphon off votes from Benishek, and insiders report that an ongoing personality conflict between the UP Doctor and Wilson, might further encourage Wilson to remain in the race as a spoiler. More as it becomes available. (2 comments) Comments >>
