One of the long running abuses of government is being stepped up as is normal at this time of year.
Possibly the most in-your-face government nanny state BS to ever grace a televised Tiger game is LIVE this weekend. Seat belt enforcement zones in effect through Memorial Day
".. law enforcement officers from 155 agencies will be conducting safety belt enforcement zones in 26 counties across the state through June 2.Good places to avoid if driving sans the safety harness. Annoyance at this program stems not so much from a common sense application of the tools used to protect passengers of automobiles, but rather the steamy breathed way it is presented as LAW. And that we pay for those ads. (perhaps legislators could look at funding that drives that type of inane garbage?) YOU WILL PUT YOUR BELT ON, MAGGOT! But that isn't entirely all of it either. Pete Hoekstra's campaign has made the decision to spend the money necessary to purchase a Super Bowl ad to run in key Michigan media markets (Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Marquette, Lansing, and Traverse City) just before kickoff in Indianapolis. Naturally, the Michigan Democrat Party is not pleased.

Sometimes its the little things that really help.
A press notice came in today bringing a little light to an efficiency crafted by a couple of Republicans; Senators Marleau, and Schuitmaker. Marleau is a supporter of the E-tracking alternative I have encouraged in prior posts, that maintains access to cold medicine versus making them all prescription. Apparently this new legislation would help to strip away some of the bureaucratic paperwork for insurance authorization and prescriptions. We like when bureaucracy is stripped away. And more time available for doctors to spend with patients likely means keeping costs under control. Yeah, this is a bit of an encouraging cheer for the two Michigan senators for nibbling away at the edges on these issues. Gladly I cheer for more of the same. Reduce Red tape, and encourage free market ideas in all areas. Often enough, bad decisions will be called out for what they are, but the little things like this are deserving of a little recognition. So OK, I'm Game. The release is below the line. (7 comments, 501 words in story) Full Story By Conservative First, Section News
County commission redistricting is well underway, with the majority of counties appearing to have completed their new maps. Maps are drawn by a five-member commission consisting of the county prosecutor, treasurer, and clerk, and the chairmen of the Republican and democrat parties. There are a number of rules that must be complied with, which are laid out in the post below on Kalamazoo County.
In particular, the apportionment commission can pick the number of districts, within some boundaries. A trend in many counties has been to reduce the number of districts. I did detailed analyses of the maps for Kalamazoo and Calhoun Counties. For other counties, I found some newspaper articles. Unfortunately, such articles tend not to do a good job explaining what is going on. Comments from readers in other parts of the state explaining what's happening in their area are welcome.
