I guess we are not really facing the same thing.
Reports of the invasion by students and other bit actors at the capitol yesterday, arrived with rumors that they were hired with potato salad sandwiches and promises of an extra bag of chips if they succeeded in holding the fort overnight. Labor wishes to generate the kind of destructive element made possible by police capitulation in Wisconsin over the last month. The destruction that likely cost the state of Wisconsin over $300,000. The glue, tape and posters are gone from the Capitol building in Madison. Despite original estimates that it would cost $7.5 million to remove and repair damage from the displays, it now appears the cost will be roughly $350,000. Lansing has a little different story.
Though some of the same mindset is present, there appears to be a different tone of civility, and apparently OUR police are doing their jobs. All 11 arrested will be charged with misdemeanor trespassing, according to State Police Capt. Gary Nix. One person additionally faces felony charges for allegedly breaking into the Capitol through a bathroom window and allegedly assaulting a police officer. And we also have some competent representation for our legislators. ~ Below (7 comments, 392 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
There were perhaps 500, not 2000 as the FREEP would like to present. As these things go, its pretty easy to see from their photo. A friend I traveled down with didn't think there were even that (500) many. I felt 500 was about dead on, and the police officer who stood near us to [protect] us from the encroaching types, seemed to think that was the number as well as some of the union supporters passing by.
Interesting time however. About 18-20 of tea partiers vs 500. All I had to do was chant "SUPPORT WORKERS RIGHTS!" holding up my sign to get a "YEAH" in response. "SUPPORT WORKERS RIGHTS!" "YEAH!!" "SUPPORT WORKERS RIGHTS!" "YEAH!!!!" Then I held the sign out so they could see the bottom, and chanted "SUPPORT WORKERS RIGHTS!" and then "SUPPORT RIGHT TO WORK!" "YE... umm what??" Oh you had to be there.. it was delicious. Then I finally was able to meet a young MTTM contributor, her siblings and her mom who showed up to counter protest. Below... The time is at hand.
When those in the newly elected Michigan Senate decide who will be the leader, it must be someone who is willing to go beyond the status quo. Make no mistake of thinking the 'leadership' of the Republican party had this election in the bag without the support of the free market, liberty loving tea party types who did a great deal of the WORK to change Michigan and the rest of the nation. Ignore our efforts at your peril.
An article in today's Capitol Confidential has a quote by prospect for Senate Majority leader, Randy Richardville: "I have moved further to the right than I used to be" Glad to know.
What does that mean Randy? And what about your follow up? "I don't see unions as being evil. If you want to work in Michigan, I'm probably going to support you. Sometimes working with unions helps get them back to work. ... Some people on the far right want to throw anyone out because they work for a union organization. That's not me." With all due respect. "Probably" won't cut it. (1 comment, 450 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
Sometimes it is real easy to look at the top dog, and think there it is. The Governor is the one who will affect what is happening in this state the most. Often we forget the path of least resistance might not serve us so well, if that which travels the path to the pen is unencumbered by reason or moral certitude.
Just don't forget we have gatekeepers. Jack Hoogendyk offers his valuable experience as a lesson in politics. Pay CLOSE ATTENTION. A little Skinny on this at the end.. Below the fold we go.. (9 comments, 842 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
At the October 10 Tea Party Rally in Lansing.
We have news that Michigan Supreme Court Justice Robert Young has been added to the speakers list for the "Sovereignty Tea Party" Rally held on the Michigan Capitol steps Sunday October 10, 2010.
The Rally is to demonstrate support for the 10th amendment. Organizers call out: "Join your fellow Michigan patriots as we support our 10th Amendment Sovereignty rights against Unconstitutional Federal over reach such as ObamaCare, a prime example of national law that oversteps state jurisdiction and results in the loss of rights of Michigan's citizens!" 10th amendment violations by the federal government has been a major issue often noted by Tea Partiers.
