    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

To the progressives, the hospital lobby, and the left "how can I help you"

But to the base of the Republican Party?

    Alrighty then.

Tell me again about how Snyder hasn't poisoned Republican leadership?

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

Don't feel too bad, pain is a part of the treatment.

The patient will likely experience nausea, loss of bowel control, and episodes of depression, and screaming fits should not disconcert concerned caregivers.  Exhaustion should be expected as well, but remember the process is supposed to be harder on the cancerous cells, so its best not to give up before it is done. Another reason to continue the treatment is to prevent a re-occurrence of the disease before it is completely eliminated.

True, some forms of cancer can be fatal.

The bad cells burrow away in areas sometimes hard to identify. And sometimes seemingly good cells turn bad in an instant. And unfortunately, we've seen it recently.  New cancer cells appeared before our very eyes, from as far away as the UP in fact.  The threshold has been met and now many think the patient is terminal, but perhaps its possible our treatment will have an effect to buy some time.  It may even help if we can get the patient to stop smoking. Perhaps even if we can re-instill the will to live.

We're not ready to give up yet.

However, there is the possibility that the bad cells will cling on long enough that the treatment hurts many of the good cells. We are sorry in advance for what needs to be done.

Its an inexact science unfortunately, and there can be a cost to heal properly, but we'll do our damnedest to see it through to the end.

Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
    Proverbs 26:4-5 (English Standard Version)

Solomon's words of wisdom here have been quite helpful this past week and a half, when I've had the sense to heed them.  Further relevant advice comes from my dad (a Mustang pilot during WW2) and one of my elementary school teachers (a Mitchell navigator during WW2):  If you're not drawing fire, then you're not over your target.

Judging by some of the flak I've been catching since Labor Day, I'd say I've discovered a target the value of which neither the blueblooded old guard party elites nor the Snyder-Calley "nerd herd" want as public knowledge.

    When The Costs Go Up

    So Does the Rate.

While private enterprise for the most part has been able to hold costs and effects of inflation in check, in many cases through efficiencies and watchful management, government does no such thing.  An infrastructure operation that is run by government hasn't the same incentives, or mechanisms that allow increased costs to be aggregated along side found savings.  The Price will always go up. And the announcement of rate increases over one international bridge?

"The Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority (SSMBA) today reminded International Bridge customers of public hearings next week in Michigan and Ontario to review a proposed toll rate increase.

The proposed increase was prompted by the SSMBA Board of Directors' review on Aug. 15 of its long-range financial plan that details the operational and capital improvement project needs of the bridge for the next 30 years. The proposed toll increase (in U.S. dollars) includes an increase in passenger vehicle tolls from the current $3 per trip to $3.50 per trip on April 1, 2014, and from $3.50 to $4 on April 1, 2019."

Is foreshadowing for what will happen for another several hundred miles south.

The math in easy to understand terms has been done before

This type of hearing could be expected several times in only the first few years for a new crossing that won't even open with operating capital.

    Kuznicki Dissection Of Calley's Propaganda

"Hey I'm your Brother" said Cain to Abel before dispatching him.

    And THAT was "family".

In defense of Republicans who have sold out to Obamacare expansion in Michigan, Lt. Guv Brian Calley issued a letter that attempts to re-unify Republicans who have felt the knife of betrayal from Michigan's executive branch and legislature these past two weeks.  The plea to accept Obamacare "as the law of the land" frankly falls on deaf ears, and his words add insult to injury when saying there is a conservative argument for passage.

No  really there is no such thing.

And Jen Kuznicki does a fine job of pointing it out.  She breaks down into sections his screed, and analyzes the mental disconnect that is being argued.  At one point noting his argument of being a conservative:

I have always been a principled conservative voice inside the administration, but when the Governor makes a decision I will support and help implement that decision.

It is telling that although Lt. Governor believes himself to be a principled conservative voice, he uses the word `but', as if he knows it is not a principled position to stand with the Governor on this issue."

Me thinks she has a point.

Its a sad day when the poison from our own flag bearers can so corrupt the conscious decisions of those who would otherwise be considered conservative to a point where they are no better than those who pass all manner of progressive policy.  Its hurtful to watch grown men insinuate that they HAVE TO back such heresy for the good of the party.

Read the rest of her analysis.

    Provable Vulnerability

When was the last time a sitting Republican governor of Michigan was subjected to a primary?

Truthfully, I am not sure if it has ever happened.  In 2014 it would likely succeed, according to polling by iCaucus that was completed on Friday and finalized this weekend. The scientific polling was done over a week targeting a specific group that will decide who is the GOP flag bearer going forward; active, educated and engaged republican delegates.

As a foreshadowing through early results had revealed, there is little question of where folks are at this point in time, and on the eve of Snyder signing Obamacare capitulation into law in Michigan.  The polling shows Rick Snyder in disfavor with delegates, and unwelcome to nearly half. Less than 40% would NOT like to see a primary challenge.

Not surprisingly to this writer, the results are not as clear with Lt Governor Brian Calley, who has results that are within the margin of error.  Outside of the polling there is a sense that many conservatives still find the problem to be with the governor himself, and Calley to be more incidental and possibly holding the governor to more conservative positions than he would be otherwise.

This might be the case, and might be seen as an additional reason to oust the governor who requires such 'care'.

Continued with SO MUCH MORE below the fold.

Snyder In Trouble & The Left Verifies It

An iCaucus poll taken this week has revealed troubling news for Rick Snyder and Brian Calley.

Polling of delegates throughout the state has revealed that Both Rick Snyder and Brian Calley could face successful challenges in the primary and at convention respectively.  MIRS and other sources are reporting that the polling has so far shown that those responding indicate 44-41% Snyder should face a primary challenger in 2014, and Calley a convention challenger 40-37%.  The remaining percentages are undecided. Margin of error 4.99%, and Confidence 95%.

WHOM the preferred challenger might be is another matter entirely. With a number of names used to reflect different philosophic grounding ONE (as yet unnamed) possible poll answer barely gets outside of the margin of error but ahead of Snyder, and three fail terribly against Snyder according to my other sources. (again, unnamed-as-yet) This comes as little surprise as the governor is facing stiff opposition by conservatives across the state putting pressure on state senators, and the one possibility that senate Dems might stick Snyder in the back on the final vote so they can call his 'leadership' weak.

    Somehow I doubt that.

In fact, the Dems are just starting to tell us what they are afraid of.

Go below the fold for more.
