An iCaucus poll taken this week has revealed troubling news for Rick Snyder and Brian Calley.
Polling of delegates throughout the state has revealed that Both Rick Snyder and Brian Calley could face successful challenges in the primary and at convention respectively. MIRS and other sources are reporting that the polling has so far shown that those responding indicate 44-41% Snyder should face a primary challenger in 2014, and Calley a convention challenger 40-37%. The remaining percentages are undecided. Margin of error 4.99%, and Confidence 95%. WHOM the preferred challenger might be is another matter entirely. With a number of names used to reflect different philosophic grounding ONE (as yet unnamed) possible poll answer barely gets outside of the margin of error but ahead of Snyder, and three fail terribly against Snyder according to my other sources. (again, unnamed-as-yet) This comes as little surprise as the governor is facing stiff opposition by conservatives across the state putting pressure on state senators, and the one possibility that senate Dems might stick Snyder in the back on the final vote so they can call his 'leadership' weak. Somehow I doubt that. In fact, the Dems are just starting to tell us what they are afraid of. Go below the fold for more. (13 comments, 561 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
Many of you have been regulars for years on RightMichigan.com. There are reasons you come here. For some, it might be to catch up on what is happening in the state politically, and perhaps even to get a conservative's view on the daily events affecting us in Michigan politics and social realm. Nick De leeuw built a pretty good sounding board for conservatives across the state, and real policy and decisions have been made as a result of news and opinion made here. And his writing up until a few months back was sought out by most who visited. His reasoning pretty well considered, and he has generally demonstrated sound conservative principles.
Nick's opinion is a trusted one. And I hope my own carries some weight as well. We had both agreed early on, that three Republican candidates, Bouchard, Cox, and Hoekstra would be worthy candidates and would likely make great governors. The primary had promise to produce at least one great result, and that result being a truly Republican governor for the state of Michigan. To be sure, each candidate has weaknesses, either in policy or perhaps a personal area, but nothing that has not been overcome with either explanation, a recant, or apology. "To err is human, to forgive, divine," and we move on. As this is a primary, and only one of these fine gentlemen who represent Republican principles can be Governor at a time, RightMichigan.com writers and readers alike have done due diligence, and decided whom they will back. Nick and I both looked at many different points of strength the candidates have. Conservative values, commitment of service, ability to rally support, and overall electability in the general election. On balance, we both came to the same conclusion, and have been supporters of Mike Cox in his bid to be Michigan's top executive. Nick was serious enough to work for the Cox campaign directly. It comes at a cost. (49 comments, 1971 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
As you know, I am a supporter of Mike Cox for governor. Why I am is based on a number of issues, but as previously mentioned a primary one is his ability to stand on an issue as a matter of principle, no matter the initial popularity of it. We are a better state for his involvement in issues such as race, public safety, over reaching insurance non profits, and to be sure, one that is close to many hearts.. the right to life.
So I was pleased to hear a really great radio ad the other day by the Michigan Right To Life PAC. The Michigan Right To Life PAC explains why it has selected only ONE candidate to endorse, why that candidate is Mike Cox. As an aside, it is interesting to contrast the explanation provided by RTL of MI to that of the NRA when it provides cover for its endorsements. (Of course I use the word 'cover' to describe NRA endorsements, because they often shoot themselves by hawking BAD legislators and politicos with a unique single mindedness) The Right To Life Pac in its ad, actually uses its weight to suggest people consider the alternate outcome that could result which is quite contrary to their goals. But not in this case from the election of a 'typical' supporter of abortion on demand usually sponsored by the Democrat party.. read on.. To increase transparency and accountability for Michigan politicians, The Center for Michigan today launched the Michigan Truth Squad, a non-partisan Web-based project that will seek to keep candidates and campaigns more honest and issue-focused in the ads they use to persuade voters during the 2010 election season.

Welcome to the Michigan gubernatorial Speedway, where the twists and turns can be both deadly or maybe put you ahead. The track has changed a little, and too many left turns will send you off road.
The official, yet unofficial record shows filing for the Michigan GOP nod at governor as of 4PM today to be:
Bouchard, Mike The Democrat candidates are not listed here, as they have chosen to run a demolition derby. Gentlemen? Start your engines.. (10 comments) Comments >> |
