  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

MDOT: Amtrak A Success! ...Still A Goonionized Moneypit

From the same folks trying to stick taxpayers with a boondoggle bridge for the Canucks.

"This past year marks the highest ridership totals ever on Amtrak services in Michigan," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. "All three lines, especially the Blue Water, have made great gains, despite the slowdowns on the Pontiac/Detroit-Chicago corridor. We've taken steps to repair the track between Kalamazoo and Ypsilanti, so that will help bring speeds back to what customers expect."

Amtrak operates the Blue Water and Pere Marquette services under a contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). At this time, Amtrak does not receive any direct state support for the Wolverine service. Michigan is one of 15 states that provide state-supported service.

    Executive Privilege?

In a move straight out of the playbook of Dear Leader Obama, it seems Michigan's executive branch would have new wholesale hiring capabilities.

    The Detroit News reports:

"Sen. David Robertson, R-Grand Blanc, wants a constitutional amendment that would allow the governor to appoint up to 1 percent of the state workforce. With about 50,000 employees, that would amount to about 500 appointees.

Today, Michigan's governor is allowed only five appointees per state department, plus department heads and eight appointees in the governor's office, for a little more than 120 total.

    Czars.

"What is good for me, may not be so for thee" would be a statement that comes to mind.  Republicans who would stand so against things such as a taxpayer boondoggle bridge during the last administration, and now consider it plausible should make one pause.  And in this case, we critique the worst president who has ever lived in the white house for his 'czar' list and unaccountable policy makers, yet are expected to bless the 'Republican' version of it?

Maybe not such a good idea, huh?

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

The resurgence of the monarch - A tale of two presidents

In light of the situation we find ourselves in as a county, coupled with the fact that we have a President for whom change is everything, I think it would be a worthwhile venture to survey our two most recent presidents. Let us now endeavor to take a look at these two men, not from our feelings and/or subjective impressions, but from an open minded look at history.

Before we get started, we (including myself) must admit that true objectivity is impossible for human beings. Yes, even Danian Michael brings his biases to every situation, but so do you. For example: It is easier for a conservative to look past the misdeeds of George Bush. During the Bush administration, Republicans in congress did not oppose the growth of government. Conversely, it is easier for Democrats and
Liberals to turn a blind eye to the misdeeds of President Obama. Democrats for example think nothing of Obama proposing a 7 trillion dollar deficit over the next 10 years, yet would not give former president Bush a moments rest for spending a small (very small) fraction of that amount on the war on terror.[1] So let's not kid ourselves, all of us, without exception, understand this world through the prism of our belief systems.
