Breaking! Breaking! President Obama is going to visit Macomb County today and will be holding a Town Hall meeting where he will hear directly from Michigan residents!
No, wait, scratch that. Too much access for the average Michigander. Change of plans from the White House. Breaking! Breaking! President Obama is going to visit Macomb County today and will be holding an open forum where Michigan moms and dads, while not permitted to speak, will have a chance to attend and hear what the President has to say in person. Nah. White House thinks that, too, amounts to too much face time with normal folks. Try this one... Breaking! Breaking! President Obama is going to visit Macomb County today and will hold a glorified press conference in front of a sycophantic press corps and select invite-only Democratic Party big-wigs? There's the ticket. And the only ticket. No duckets for Michigan's working or unemployed. Which is a shame. Even if he isn't inclined to speak to us "normal folks," there's a lot the average Michigander could and very likely would communicate to the man who has injected the federal deficit with anabolic steroids. The first thing that ran through my mind when I read the headline was "we're never going to learn!" "51 percent in Michigan favor Gov. Granholm for Supreme Court" the AP tells us, echoing the results of a poll conducted by Detroit's WXYZ TV 7. Seriously?
Not that I should have reacted that way. I've been saying for years that you could run Jennifer Granholm against the Pope in the Vatican and she'd come out on top. This poll only seems to back up my belief that for some reason that defies my own understanding, with a certain portion of the population she can literally do no wrong. Or then again, maybe I was wrong. The poll of 600 registered voters (typically a more "liberal" sampling than "likely voters") want the Governor in DC, 51 to 44 but they also give her a negative job performance rating, and by more significant numbers, 61 to 38. In other words, there's a good chunk of the surveyed public that's OK with moving Jennifer Granholm off to the Supreme Court because it would get her the heck out of Michigan. Short sighted (we've got less than two years left with the woman... I wouldn't trade two years of moderate relief for forty of agony), but I get where they're coming from. Things are only getting uglier under Jennifer Granholm's watch. Soaring taxes, a great lake sized budget deficit and a nation's worst 12.9 percent unemployment rate have left a pretty bitter taste in the mouths of a lot of folks. But stir those crises together in a pot, sprinkle in a dollop or fifty-six-thousand of judicial inexperience and a heaping helping of IRS problems in the form of multiple liens for failing to pay her payroll taxes and suddenly a Granholm SCOTUS nod makes even less sense. There's no telling, just yet, which, if any of those red flags ended her candidacy but a liberal source no less venerable than the New York Times reports now that the White House's flirtation with Governor Granholm IS over:
And so just that suddenly 51 percent of Michiganders are left disappointed and heartbroken. But look at it this way... our loss is the Supreme Court's gain. (3 comments) Comments >> By Political Agenda, Section News
Do you know anyone who suffers from low self esteem? It's quite a thing isn't it, to see someone capable of so much accept so little? Or to see someone who has so much going for them live as though that were not the case? Allow me to tell you a true story that happened to me in Jamaica when I was about eight years old; this story takes place over the span of seven years: (1 comment, 1043 words in story) Full Story By Political Agenda, Section News
In light of the situation we find ourselves in as a county, coupled with the fact that we have a President for whom change is everything, I think it would be a worthwhile venture to survey our two most recent presidents. Let us now endeavor to take a look at these two men, not from our feelings and/or subjective impressions, but from an open minded look at history.
Before we get started, we (including myself) must admit that true objectivity is impossible for human beings. Yes, even Danian Michael brings his biases to every situation, but so do you. For example: It is easier for a conservative to look past the misdeeds of George Bush. During the Bush administration, Republicans in congress did not oppose the growth of government. Conversely, it is easier for Democrats and (1789 words in story) Full Story By Crippy, Section News
There is nothing like a man with the courage of his convictions. A man with a set of core beliefs so firmly entrenched in his character that the jaws of life couldn't pry them loose. Ladies and Gentleman, that man is not President Barack Hussein Obama. Folding like a house of cards in a hurricane, President Obama quickly moved to soften "buy American" language in his $1 trillion stimulus bill because the EU takes exception to it.

In typical Chicago thug fashion, President Barack Hussein Obama, is attempting to blackmail the State of Illinois. Written into the text of the "stimulus" package is language that qualifies the spending of stimulus money by the state of Illinois, without legislature approval, if Rod Blagojevich is the governor.

to the incoherent ramblings of an elected Marxist. President Obama's speech was a disgrace and his ability to deliver it with a straight face says something about the "content of his character".
At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents.
"not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office"? To whom are you referring, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Teddy Kennedy, George W. Bush? A truthful statement would have been that America has carried on in spite of those in high office. As far as I can tell there has only been one good president in the last 100+ years.
Really, what documents have "We" remained faithful to; surely not the Declaration of Independence. Definitely not the Constitution? Unless you can "undertake to lay your finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents." Remind me again, exactly, what founding document addresses abortion, health care, public education, foreign aid, global warming, the United Nations, or any other form of social engineering on which the federal government wastes the money of their constituents?
