Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Raise the curtain.

So this is how liberty dies...

Tags: President Obama, Inauguration Speech (all tags)

to the incoherent ramblings of an elected Marxist.  President Obama's speech was a disgrace and his ability to deliver it with a straight face says something about the "content of his character".

At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents.

"not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office"?  To whom are you referring, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Teddy Kennedy, George W. Bush?  A truthful statement would have been that America has carried on in spite of  those in high office.  As far as I can tell there has only been one good president in the last 100+ years.

"We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents."

Really, what documents have "We" remained faithful to; surely not the Declaration of Independence.  Definitely not the Constitution? Unless you can "undertake to lay your finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents." Remind me again, exactly, what founding document addresses abortion, health care, public education, foreign aid, global warming, the United Nations, or any other form of social engineering on which the federal government wastes the money of their constituents?

Mr President, in your faithfulness to our founding documents, did you forget to read the Second Amendment.  You must have to support legislation that would criminalize the use of arms in defense of a person's family and property.

It has not been the path for the faint-hearted -- for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things -- some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.

If you actually believed any of what you said you wouldn't be rewarding those "who prefer leisure over work" and you wouldn't be trying to discourage and punish, through punitive tax policies and asinine environmental legislation based on junk science, "the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things".  Is your Cap and Trade policy designed to help the risk-takers?

For us, they fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sahn.

How have you shown your appreciation for those that " fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sahn.". Were you showing your support when you did everything in your power to undermine a sitting war time president.  Or perhaps you showed your appreciation when you went to work out instead of visiting the troops during your summer world tour.

But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions -- that time has surely passed.

Mr President I hope you remember that the time for "protecting narrow interests" has passed when legislation abolishing the secret ballot for union voting comes to your desk.  Somehow, I doubt you will.

The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act -- not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth

Here you are correct sir, our economy does call for action.  But the action it calls for is exactly the action that will never cross your mind. You won't call for the repeal of legislation such as the Community Reinvestment Act or Sarbanes Oxley or the Internal Revenue Code.  No, you will call for more market crippling legislation and for making existing legislation more egregious.  Milton Freidman once said "Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself." .  He appears to be speaking directly to you Mr. President.

The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works -- whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.

This says it all and confirms my suspicion that you have never read the founding documents Mr. President.  If you had, you could not utter these words.  The bedrock of America's founding was limited, small,  government.

For all us who are insulted by this charlatan, God help us!  If I'm the only one, I hope you'll ask God to help me.

Big-time change is coming!  And 100% of that change is un-American!

The road to liberty today is much longer than the road our Founders traveled.  Why?  Because they would have never let government grow like it has.

Republican politicians are falling all over themselves in the name of Obama, and jumping on every socialist bandwagon they can.  Democrats are going to seize power like never before seen in our history.  And a massive wave of inflation is about to hit our shores.

I'm with you!  The whole kit-and-caboodle in Washington insults me!

It's time for "we the people" to take charge!  It's not about the "parties" anymore.  We're past that point.  The clock is ticking and there's no more time-outs.

It's time to tell politicians of all stripes ... You're either with us, or against us ... and draw our lines accordingly.

But then again ... I often wonder if I'm the only person left who believes in liberty and the American creed anymore ... at least there's 2 of us!

And Republicans ... I know this is a Republican site, but, I expect more out of you.  From the day I turned 18 and registered to vote 22 years ago, I've been a registered-Republican.

Soon after, Ronald Reagan gave his farewell speech, and despite my loyalty, the Republican Party thumbed its nose at me.  The Republicans are as much at fault for the state of our nation, its diminished liberties, high taxation, and lost economic freedoms, as anyone else.

As part of Gen X, I'm here to tell you ... I fear for our country, I really do ... because our generation, nor the generations that follow, will not only be incapable of, but we'll flat-out refuse to shoulder the government debt created by generations before us.

You Are Not Alone (none / 0) (#3)

I tried to maintain a 'cone of silence' today because I couldn't handle all the fawning hype. But, I was in my car around 12:00 and listened to the first 30 seconds of 'The One' giving his address. I was in shock and turned the radio off after his 'we are polluting the world' comment.

To make matters worse, I stopped into a coffee shop and there were two college age girls watching 'The One' and they asked me if I was excited about the 'historic moment'. I grumbled and replied with something along the lines of ' I'm hoping for little change'.. As I was leaving, I heard one of the girls say 'well, its better than looking at some old white guy'

    It's been a tough day.

    No, you're definitely NOT alone. (none / 0) (#4)

But there were two things in his speech yesterday that had me take notice and not write him off as a total loss:

"It has not been the path for the faint-hearted -- for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things -- some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom."

    and

"Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends -- honesty and hard work, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism -- these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility -- a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task."

Now, is he serious that the gravy train is ending, and that people will need to pull their own weight from now on?

I'm under the impression that too many of his followers were caught up in the moment to really pay attention to what was said.

But for the time being, even though I didn't vote for him, even though I didn't guzzle down the kool aid at the mall, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, and see how things pan out.

    Eternal vigilance...
