Time for a Presidential Rally! - 1PM, Macomb Community College

Breaking! Breaking!  President Obama is going to visit Macomb County today and will be holding a Town Hall meeting where he will hear directly from Michigan residents!

No, wait, scratch that.  Too much access for the average Michigander. Change of plans from the White House.

Breaking!  Breaking!  President Obama is going to visit Macomb County today and will be holding an open forum where Michigan moms and dads, while not permitted to speak, will have a chance to attend and hear what the President has to say in person.

Nah.  White House thinks that, too, amounts to too much face time with normal folks.  Try this one...

Breaking!  Breaking!  President Obama is going to visit Macomb County today and will hold a glorified press conference in front of a sycophantic press corps and select invite-only Democratic Party big-wigs?

There's the ticket.  And the only ticket.  No duckets for Michigan's working or unemployed.  Which is a shame.  Even if he isn't inclined to speak to us "normal folks," there's a lot the average Michigander could and very likely would communicate to the man who has injected the federal deficit with anabolic steroids.

    Read on...

Folks might like to point out, for instance, that here in Michigan where Democrats have raised taxes by record amounts while refusing to trim the budget, tax income continues to plummet.  The Associated Press reports the Senate Fiscal Agency just unveiled new numbers that put us an additional $120 million in the hole over only the last two months.

So far in the budget year that started last October, tax collections are down 13 percent, or $1.8 billion.

They might like to ask why two major Michigan companies were taken over by the federal government while bad players in the banking sector escaped with something between a slap on the wrist and a truck load of free money.

Who knows... they might just like to say "hello" and to get a glimpse of the most powerful man in the world.  That's always a thrill, no matter the state of the economy.

But no.  The White House thought better of gracing you with a nod or a wave or a hello.  That's not to say, though, that you're entirely without options. Folks from across metro Detroit will be rallying to tell the President a thing or two, whether he wants to hear them or not.  Granted, they'll be doing it from outside the building, but c'mon... they'd never let you inside a building with that picket sign anyways.

Here's a note about today's rally that Jack Hoogendyk sent through last night:

President Obama is coming to Macomb Comminity College. Join us as we greet President  Obama to share our true concerns. Bring signs, lets RALLY!

We are looking for people to start showing up around 1p.m. The president is due to arrive between 2 and 3:30.

Parking lot 3 on the west side of the campus (Bunert), about 1/3 mile south of 12 Mile Rd. is the best location to rally from.  You may need an MCCC parking sticker on your vehicle. The alternate spot is the parking lot of the abandoned Farmer Jacks on the North side of 12 Mile Rd. just west  of Bunert. We need to be flexible.

You can check out a map of the campus HERE and get directions using this street map HERE.

If you make it out this afternoon, make sure you check back in here at RightMichigan this evening and let everyone know how it went!

Statement from Cong. Hoekstra (none / 0) (#1)
by Nick on Tue Jul 14, 2009 at 07:07:42 AM EST
Congressman Hoekstra issued a statement about the President's visit:

"It's unfortunate that the President decided against holding a town hall style meeting in Michigan.  He really needs to hear from Michiganians, who are the hardest hit citizens in the country.  With the highest unemployment rate in the country, what started as a single state recession has gotten much worse.  We in Michigan know that we cannot tax or borrow our way out of this economic problem.

The people of Michigan are tough and resilient.  There are a lot of ideas that would be beneficial for the President to hear.

The way out of this mess, is to stimulate the economy by reducing bureaucratic restrictions and mandates on federal dollars the flow to states and communities.  And Michigan must also address its tax system on small business and families."

And this surprised you how, Nick? (none / 0) (#2)

I drove by Macomb this am.

Maybe the Macomb County Democratic party may have forgotten, but it is still a school, and closing off 2/3 of the parking (and I don't even know exactly what else they've disrupted today).

Kind of hard to better yourself, when the politicalrazzi get in the way.

Interesting ad in the Macomb Daily (none / 0) (#3)

Check out this ad that's running today in the Macomb Daily... obviously submitted BEFORE the White House canceled the Town Hall and changed the event to a press conference.

If only Democrats are attending this thing, I'm sort of wondering if Rick Snyder got an invite.

My guess his he'll be on stage "listening"

    At least he's COMING to... (none / 0) (#5)

    Macomb Community College!!! (none / 0) (#7)
by Eric T on Tue Jul 14, 2009 at 12:08:49 PM EST
Macomb Community College is the best college in the whole country. That's where I got my degree!

I'm glad Obama picked Macomb Community College
over some second rate school like U of M or MSU, or EMU, Western.

    Why did I see... (none / 0) (#8)

...the Macomb County Mounted Division at Macomb?

I was under the impression that Macomb County was in the red.

Was BAMN expected to make an appearance?

Or were the horses "output" used to contrast with Pres. B.O.'s "output" this afternoon?
