It needs one, and the sooner the better. But racist?
Frankly, giving credit where due, Snyder and Dillon will be right on this one. The city that hemorrhages perpetually ought to have the benefit of the financial manager immediately. Of course the looming probability it will happen has attracted the race baiters such as Al Sharpton along with congressman [READ THE BILL!?!] John Conyers. Sharpton led the crowd protesting in front of Governor Rick Snyder's home. From the Examiner: "The men are using Martin Luther King Day for the protest in the style of the great civil rights leader. The law has been used by the current governor and his predecessor Jennifer Granholm to prevent civil bankruptcies in Benton Harbor, Flint, Pontiac, and Detroit Public Schools. The argument for the EFM is that it is the last chance to avoid a municipal default that would lower credit ratings for the state and local communities across the state."Sharpton and Conyers could care less about credit ratings, defaults etc. Its about them, and their own aspirations, using ignorance to advance their own notoriety.
The message Sharpton was there to deliver? Keep putting the worm on it baiters. there might even be people who believe what you are doing is right. But no amount of marching in front of the guv's mansion will alter the reality of SE Michigan.
Broke means broke. If there is no money to pay the bills, the interest on the bills, or the accountants to fudge the books, its all over. Allowing the parasite known as Detroit to continue sucking any vibrancy out of the Michigan can happen no longer. Conditions have been met, and under the new EFM law things must change. Everything that happens in Detroit is NOT about race, though much might be about the corruption brought about in the name of affirmative advancement. Are you looking for a career change? A way to broaden your horizons? Perhaps a house in the burbs (Maryland)would be a really cool addition?
If you are from Michigan, have a desire to meet a lot of new people and serve your country, NOW is the time. A few hard workers with soul are needed in the following districts ... uh well ALL of the following districts except Congressional District #3 which is occupied by Justin Amash: "The Budget Control Act trades $21 billion in cuts next year for a debt ceiling increase of $2.1 trillion. That's one penny in cuts for each dollar of new debt. The bill does not seriously address the drivers of the federal government's fiscal crisis. It does not improve entitlement programs. I would personally like to thank Representative Amash for his ability to stand for something bigger than the ability to get in line with what the leader of the house desired. Again, the Michigan Republican delegation sans one, failed to perform its duty on the most important vote of their lifetimes. They missed an opportunity to stand for a permanence of fiscal prudence. MICHIGAN DELEGATION VOTE The complete list here
Democrats
Republicans As for those Democrats who voted no, they wanted even more from Boehner. However, this president will take whatever rope he has been given and run with it. The ONE chance you had to stop him, and you blew it. (2 comments) Comments >> By Corinthian Scales, Section News
Here's a cheerful dose of John Conyers Santuary City Detroit reality to get our Monday morning rolling. From detnews.com
Detroit -- More than two decades ago, Celina Hernandez gave birth to a daughter in her native Mexico. But the newborn died hours later because she was three months' premature and her family couldn't afford the incubator she needed to survive. Oh, it gets soooooooo much better. Below the fold we go... Very well done and very powerful. By JGillman, Section News
All things considered.. When my wife puts a little cash from the bottle deposits in the bank.. I KNOW about it.
Monica Conyers took bribes, admitted she took bribes, and today tried to change her mind. The feds are saying "nuh uh.."
Prosecutors said the reason is simple: When Conyers pleaded guilty last year, she waived her right to appeal. 37 months.. (2 comments, 309 words in story) Full Story By Nick, Section News
Add one more dubious distinction to the record of accomplishment being racked up by the Granholm-Cherry administration. This morning the Detroit News reports that for the first time in nearly three decades, new home construction in southeast Michigan has been outpaced by building demolition.
The bad news is that the proverbial "no one" is buying or building. The good news, I suppose, is that hundreds of eye-sores, especially in the Motor City, are getting the old Eight Mile treatment. Legally, of course. If only Detroit could disappear every eye sore that draws heaps of negative attention towards the city. Alas, Congressman John Conyers' wife, Monica, may have plead guilty to accepting bribes but she still hasn't been sentenced. And apparently she isn't going away until someone PUTS her away. C'mon, Johnny Law. Can't we speed up those wheels of justice? If I have to read about or listen to this woman try to cloak herself in pseudo-Gospel speak one more time I'm going to become a real-life "Bible Thumper," using the massive hardcover study Bible on my shelf to beat myself into peaceful oblivion. The wife of embattled United States Congressman John Conyers (D-Detroit), who pled guilty in a federal court this week of accepting a bribe, may remain largely unremorseful but that hasn't stopped the Motor City from beginning to clean up her mess. Disappointingly, with Detroit it's far too often one step forward and then two steps back.
On the plus side, yesterday saw some decisive action from City Council President (and former Mayor) Ken Cockrel. After Mrs. Conyers submitted her official resignation he went ahead and began sweeping away the last vestiges of the Democrat's crooked operation, firing Sunceria Garrett, the aunt whom she'd recently given a fat city contract and declining to renew the contracts of four other Conyers staffers. The Detroit News:
"Frankly it was an unnecessary position," Cockrel said. "This was not a vacant position. It was filled." Say what you will about Cockrel, the man has shown a willingness to make some tough personnel decisions (though I suspect these were relatively easy). Before leaving the Mayor's office Cockrel set in motion a budget savings plan that included hundreds of layoffs and reductions in pay for even more of the cities thousands of taxpayer funded bureaucrats. Detroit, you'll remember, is currently running a budget deficit in the hundreds of millions of dollars while recent gargantuan layoffs in the auto industry have further crippled the tax base (and city "income" projections) for the upcoming fiscal year. Alas, the monster financial storm engulfing the city doesn't seem to worry new mayor Dave Bing. Read on... (2 comments, 551 words in story) Full Story
