Be sure to give them an 'attaboy.'
Regular readers know Michigan State Senator Kahn and a couple of others are on a watch list. At times some of us have asked that you contact them in opposition to their "mistaken" positions regarding legislation. Typically legislation that is neither conservative, or even remotely 'Republican' in its nature. If you happen to come across any these legislators during your calls, or emails, etc., be sure to give them a little positive feedback on one particular piece of legislation; 2011 SB 638. A bill to designate English as the official state language; to provide certain rights; and to provide the powers and duties of certain state and local agencies and officials. Senators KAHN, GREEN, COLBECK, WALKER, BRANDENBURG, HANSEN and PAPPAGEORGE are right on target in sponsoring this legislation that will save state government in a number of ways.
This legislation comes before the Government Operations Committee: Tuesday, November 8, 2011 @ 1:00 p.m. Let them know you support it, and that it is about time. (2 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
What the heck is going on here?
I can hardly keep up with the scandal laden atmosphere that apparently is still Michigan. One piece of work that in my view has a prison sentence with the former governor's name all over it, is the forced unionization scam that was perpetrated on the very folks who could hardly realize in time what was happening much less have a chance to object. A plan so deliberate and sinister, it took on a life that apparently continues to this day. "For the state to operate a dubiously formed government entity that has been defunded by the Legislature seems unprecedented," said Patrick Wright, director of the Mackinac Center Legal Foundation. "But such shenanigans aren't entirely surprising given the origination of this agency and the machinations to preserve it for the sake of skimming `union dues' from independent contractors." Ah crap. We have criminal activities on our side too? There can be only one way a republican could move to support what was at the least a vary BAD mistake, and more likely a collusive effort between a cash seeking union and our former governor. Victims were many, yet there are still those who wish to see more. Kahn? Fess up. Spill the beans on the shenanigans you and Richardville are involved in, and walk away with SOME form of dignity. You are about to see a whole lot of fun here with your name on it. Your move. (5 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
Ok.. maybe that's the way our state would like to continue the dialogue.. With reform stalled in the Senate, the legislators have gone home to their districts. School pension reform could mean that a $118 cut per K-12 pupil would not happen for the 2011 school year. Per CapCon..
A K-12 school aid budget recently passed by the Michigan Senate would use the savings from this plan to maintain the current year's per-pupil funding for Michigan's school districts. But without pension reform, the Senate funding plan would require a $118 per student cut for fiscal 2011. The stall however is in the Republican controlled senate, where an unholy alliance of certain republicans and the MEA has logjammed any forward progress. More... Add one more dubious distinction to the record of accomplishment being racked up by the Granholm-Cherry administration. This morning the Detroit News reports that for the first time in nearly three decades, new home construction in southeast Michigan has been outpaced by building demolition.
The bad news is that the proverbial "no one" is buying or building. The good news, I suppose, is that hundreds of eye-sores, especially in the Motor City, are getting the old Eight Mile treatment. Legally, of course. If only Detroit could disappear every eye sore that draws heaps of negative attention towards the city. Alas, Congressman John Conyers' wife, Monica, may have plead guilty to accepting bribes but she still hasn't been sentenced. And apparently she isn't going away until someone PUTS her away. C'mon, Johnny Law. Can't we speed up those wheels of justice? If I have to read about or listen to this woman try to cloak herself in pseudo-Gospel speak one more time I'm going to become a real-life "Bible Thumper," using the massive hardcover study Bible on my shelf to beat myself into peaceful oblivion. Less than a week after the election of Barack Obama as the nation's first Dem President in nearly a decade a pro-gay-special rights group calling themselves "Bash Back!" invaded an evangelical church in Lansing, vandalizing the property, disrupting the service, running over worshipers and attempting to instigate physical confrontations.
And that's just what happened OUTSIDE the bathroom where church security found two of the homosexual activists after police thought they'd cleared the campus. (The image below was screen-grabbed from the website where they claimed credit for the attack.)
RightMichigan was the first to tell you the story (which you can find HERE) but certainly wasn't the last. Our coverage was discussed everywhere from WorldNet Daily to the Drudge Report and wound up shining a pretty bright spotlight on the liberals who'd commissioned and carried out the violent anti-Christian attack. Sadly, the libs claimed they weren't done and that similar church-targeted violence should be expected in the future. Now, several months later, some in the Michigan legislature are standing up and saying `not so fast.' Yesterday Senator Roger Kahn and Representative Rick Jones introduced legislation in each Michigan chamber increasing the penalties for church service invasions. House Bill 4537 and Senate Bill 351 ratchet up the punishment for this sort of anti-religious behavior to a $5,000 fine on top of any additional criminal charges. The bills protect religious services across the board, in churches, synagogues and mosques.
Kahn said Michigan must enact this legislation to help maintain the sanctity of the state's places of worship.
A quick listen to a liberal blogger's recorded interview with Bash Back!'s defacto spokesman makes it plain as day that the criminal penalties for trespassing and vandalism don't worry these Democratic extremists. Hit them in the pocket-books, though, in this Granholm-Cherry economy? That's going to pack a wallop. Props to Senator Kahn, Representative Jones and the folks who have already begun signing on as co-sponsors. This is common-sense, non-partisan legislation that should move quickly through both chambers... one would assume. Then again, one could have also assumed the Dems would never dream of attacking peaceful church goers on a Sunday morning. And we all know now the danger of assumption.
