  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    The Nuclear Option

I am not celebrating this as a way to point out the insipid nature of Harry Reid and Michigan's US Senators.

They already fulfill a centuries old prophesy that politicians eventually would be not born, but would instead be excreted.  Indeed, of all the dumb things Democrats could do with US Senate rules, this one takes the cake.

It's called the nuclear option for a reason. Democrats will regret this decision when Republicans take over the Senate in 2014 and win the Presidency in 2016. It was only a few short years ago that the GOP held the Congress and White House. The RNC as a great research piece on what top Democrats said then....

The Hypocrisy Is Nuclear: Top Democrat Amnesia On The Nuclear Option

In 2005, Then-Sen. Barack Obama Called For His Colleagues Considering The Nuclear Option To Think About "Protecting Free And Democratic Debate." SEN. BARACK OBAMA: "Mr. President, I rise today to urge my colleagues to think about the implications of what has been called the nuclear option and what effect that might have on this Chamber and on this country. I urge all of us to think not just about winning every debate but about protecting free and democratic debate." (Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), Floor Remarks, Washington, DC, 4/13/05)

    via The Detroit News

The cash-strapped city is offering an income tax amnesty program that runs through mid-February, Mayor Dave Bing announced Wednesday.

Starting Tuesday, those who owe income taxes to Detroit can pay them back without penalty. Anyone who hasn't filed an income tax return for 2011 and prior years may to participate.

Typical Progressive logic.  Those who abide by the law pay consequence for those that don't, and the Progressives excuse the law breakers from their illegal behavior.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

SSDD with the Democratic Party, and that city.

    The Detroit News

State Rep. Alberta Tinsley-Talabi took a Caribbean trip, campaign cash and a donation from a businessman while supporting his $10 million city pension fund deal, The Detroit News has learned.

Federal court records chronicle the trip and payments from indicted Georgia businessman Roy Dixon in 2007, when Tinsley-Talabi was a city councilwoman and trustee on the Detroit Police & Fire pension board.

The Detroit Democrat has not been charged in the widening, years-long federal probe of City Hall corruption and the city's pension funds that has resulted in two dozen convictions, including Tinsley-Talabi's former colleague, ex-City Council President Monica Conyers.

Tinsley-Talabi did not return multiple phone messages, but one former colleague said he's disappointed by the disclosure.

Wasn't the Hathaway Family disappointed when caught, too?  Feh.  Whatever.  I asked before, and I'll state it clearly this time... Michigan's Socialist do not care as long as their agenda incrementally moves - Forward!

Oh, is that "forward" reference considered profiling?  I guess that's just too damn Fabian Socialist in America bad.

    Last Nights Highlights

Pure torture. And no, its not the Romney/Obama debate of which I speak.

Last night was a busy one in the Grand Traverse area.  Along with anticipation for the presidential debate scheduled to start at 9pm, there was a popular hearing on a $25 septic tank assessment scheduled for 6pm, and a Benishek/McDowell debate scheduled for 7pm at the local library.  The assessment hearing had upwards of 600 people show up unexpectedly, (out of those 25,000 septic tank owners) resulting in cancellation of the hearing, and subsequent meetings today and tomorrow. (someday I may relate that tale) The Benishek/McDowall event was standing room only.

    Dan Benishek gets it.

There is no question, DR. Dan understands the mechanics of how jobs are created better than his opponent.  He understands as well as anyone why the 'Affordable Healthcare Act' is the ruin of good medicine.  However, it wasn't until the second to last question of the debate that he was clearly understood.  Debating skills were not at all present at this affair.  Benishek's "I am not a politician", being the theme of his campaign, and partially the theme of last nights event?

    No kidding.

    Forgetting The Message

Folks concerned about the sniping from within the Republican camp need to look at their candidates a little more closely from now on.

First off, any conservative who thinks that we should do anything else but vote for Pete Hoekstra, and Mitt Romney is off their nut.  There are absolutely differences between those two and their opponents.  The damage brought about by twelve years of Debbie Stabenow type thinking in the US Senate, and a mere three and a half years of Barack Obama as commander in chief is Awesome. And not in a good way. Their mindset and ideals are incompatible with a Republican form of government guaranteed by Article 4, Section 4 of our constitution.

Incompatible with a country ruled by law, not men.

Today's paper highlighted however, the unfortunate condition of our candidates vying for those positions of such importance; President, US Senator, and Michigan Supreme Court.

With the carefully placed articles in the local papers, we have a problem. Articles about how Romney is failing to Obama in 'key' states, and George Weeks inflating Pete Hoekstra's record so he could pop it like a balloon, to a Lessenberry column 'introducing' Bridget Mary McCormack's message to a state that doesn't know who she is:

"Nor is she a traditional candidate. Most Supreme Court nominees have been former senators, governors, or appellate and circuit court judges. McCormack is a popular law professor at the University of Michigan and director of the school's legal clinics.

"I have always been concerned with the legal profession's impact on real people," said McCormack, a young-looking 46-year-old who her law school dean described as having, besides an infectious grin, "an infectious commitment to her craft, a subtle, powerful mind (and), an astonishing work ethic." Not to mention, time management skills; she and her husband, White House senior counsel Steven Croley, have a commuter marriage and a "blended family" of four teenagers."

Excuse me while I take over the cat's duties of leaving partially digested food on the floor for a moment.

Not much of a soft sell eh?

Never mind the fact that the left is would up like a nine day clock in support of her candidacy. she is ALL Hollywood folks. In fact they have already put out a viral video where the former cast of an NBC show (West Wing) is actually referring to McCormack as "Hot". By golly! If that is the best qualification for the Michigan Supreme Court? Then rule-of-law be damned.  Stake out the local "Toddlers & Tiaras" competitions for the next generations of our top legal referees!
