    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    On Choosing A Better Leader

"For thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out.  As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness.  And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land.  And I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country.  I will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing land.  There they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel.  I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord GOD.  I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy.  I will feed them in justice.

And I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd.  And I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them.  I am the LORD; I have spoken."

    Ezekiel 34:11-16, 23-24 (ESV)

    Cain's Folly?

Much is being made over the apparent switch from for to against, with regard to abortion.  Pundits either neutral, or against the candidacy of Herman Cain are picking away at whatever mistakes they can find.  Be it the 9-9-9 plan or this particular issue of the day being his apparent wavering on the abortion debate.  A Traverse City, MI friend writes:
"I haven't been following Cain as well as some of you so I'm forwarding this to get your take on the article and the comments about his true position on those issues.   If might be good if one of you that have been strong supporters from the get go would maybe comment on this ...

    Seeking clarity,  xxxx xxxxx"

I support Cain now as much as I have since early on.  I don't think apparent waffling has anything to do with trying to be on the popular side of the issue either.  It was the non politically correct attitude which drew me to the Herman Cain Camp in the first place.  It was the ability to face down what is WRONG with the system, with little regard on how many people might not like their cheese moved that elevated my respect for the man.

    So I responded (below)

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    Rule Number One

Don't endorse a primary candidate if YOU are a primary candidate unless you are running as a slate.

If Michelle Bachmann is even aware of the thing (below the line) that is being sent out, she has made a GRAVE error.  Signing on for any single US Senate candidate when trying to establish a broad base of your own is problematic enough, but with 4 other declared candidates, you risk spooking an entire pool of voters.  Its done it to me.

Michelle, here is a clue: I don't know of any Tea Party actives who think Hoekstra is worthy of their support.  There may be quite a few, but in the circles I run, Randy Hekman, Gary Glenn, Peter Konetchy, or even Clark Durant would be more acceptable.

TARP, failure to endorse Right-To-Work, and an entrenched DC mentality are other clues that might give you a picture of who Hoekstra is.  The guy is willing to throw Michigan under the bus for the likes of Jimmy Hoffa.

    Yeah. Tea Party. Yay!

    Governor Recall Attempt A Failure

The left's attempt to remove Snyder via recall is not going to work. And that is just fine.

I know many of you have secretly (or not) wished that the recall attempt to remove governor Snyder might go through. I was not one of those, but given the way things get done, I understand why. That is what makes this a successful conservative community driven site.  Friendly opposition is good, and has (by the way) resulted in readership levels going through the roof.  (We may break 80 in the next DBKP Report due out soon.)

But as far as that recall attempt was concerned, it was too tall a hill to climb.  If I had to guess, they were counting on bringing over enough seniors, and those who were negatively affected by he tax code changes Snyder and the legislature enacted.  Perhaps they were hoping for some ultra conservative types to buck the changes enough to sign as well. Some may have.

    The Detroit News Reports:

Lansing -- The committee working to recall Gov. Rick Snyder will fall far short of collecting the more than 800,000 signatures it needs by Friday to put the issue on the November ballot, a spokesman said Monday.

But Tom Bryant said the group is "not giving up" and will now push to get the recall on the February ballot.

The story continues, saying that a little more than 300,000 signatures were gathered. Indeed, A push for a Sept 29 Deadline for the February ballot using the majority of signatures might get it close, but will likely prove futile.

Frankly, I doubt Snyder ever really feared this recall attempt.

    Tea Party Influence Quite Real..

Just a short note to point out that even the Democrats in the Tea Party Movement are making a difference tonight in the primary races.

The "conservative", or perhaps more accurately the traditionalist part of the Democrat party has turned out Arlen Specter, and at the same time repudiating the plans of the president who declared that he loved the turncoat Senator.  The winner for the democrat senate primary in PA, Joe Sestak had distanced himself from Obama's key plans by claiming he would not have voted for either cap & Trade OR the health care bill.  Though it is easy to say, it carried enough for democrats to turn out the President's pick with prejudice.
