    Tea Party Influence Quite Real..

Just a short note to point out that even the Democrats in the Tea Party Movement are making a difference tonight in the primary races.

The "conservative", or perhaps more accurately the traditionalist part of the Democrat party has turned out Arlen Specter, and at the same time repudiating the plans of the president who declared that he loved the turncoat Senator.  The winner for the democrat senate primary in PA, Joe Sestak had distanced himself from Obama's key plans by claiming he would not have voted for either cap & Trade OR the health care bill.  Though it is easy to say, it carried enough for democrats to turn out the President's pick with prejudice.

The Republican candidate in PA, Pat Toomey, now faces Sestak in an all out brawl for the general in November.  It should not be considered a guaranteed win, and Toomey may need support from those outside his district to take the win all the way.

Sestak has read the TEA leaves quite well in his planning.

Michigan primary contenders should take note, the conservative, or traditionalist message of the tea party folks is indeed legitimate and as important to your success.  Even with the derision offered by some media outlets, the limited government message cannot be overstated as a strength for the survival of our state going forward.

It is no guarantee, as I pointed out with the PA election, that a republican nod means any significant advantage, as even the Michigan Democrats who speak of less government, even bucking the union philosophy in some way will be the opponents in many races that actually have Tea Party affected primaries.

A side note.. this reminds us of why Dillon shifted rightward in the last year, and has given in to budgets not inclusive of higher taxes.  Further, his alienation of the unions, virtually handing over their support to Bernero should not be ignored.  A tactically smart move.

Dillon will CREAM Bernero, and then it will be harder for those who do not know him in the general to see him as union friendly, even though he would be likely to make up after the primaries. (can you say Lt. G candidate Bernero?)

Yeah.. speculation.. but its a bizarro world anyhow.

The Dems lose the Executive and several seats throughout the state this year.. maybe not so easy, but they will lose.  And though the Tea party activity wasn't needed to predict that, it most certainly is crafting the message of those who would seek the multitude of offices, and ultimately the Governor's seat.

What that message is... does matter, and in the end, we will hopefully have a more responsible person at Michigan's helm, and in other responsible positions that truly know why it does.

Another example of that influence... (none / 0) (#1)

...is Rand Paul stomping on Trey Grayson in Kentucky last night.

Trey Grayson, the GOP hand-picked successor of Sen. Jim Bunning, is an indication that the party leadership had better take a harder look at the candidates they field from now on.

It should be painfully obvious to them by now that running candidates who walk away from any semblance of conservative principles by favoring the expansion of the federal government (i.e. GWB) or waffling on issues (i.e. McCain), is a sure-fire way to give the democrats a guaranteed win in any race they run.

Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result is an definition of what?

It's time to change that line of thinking.

on the elections last night.  I was really hoping Davis (R) could pull out the Murtha district just because Murtha disparaged our troops and was really one of the biggest thieves in Congress.  That would have been the icing on the cake but maybe next time around.  I am thrilled that Arlen Benedict was soundly rejected by PA voters.

As far as Michigan goes I still do not see one good candidate for governor on the Republican side.  We need a Chris Christy person to kick some big time A$$ and get this state back in good economical shape including reducing the size and scope of our government by about 50%.  None of the candidates I see seems to have the nads or brains to figure out what needs to be done.
