The Michigan Republican Party's State Committee is scheduled to choose a method of selecting the Republican Presidential Nominee for Michigan on Saturday, August 13th, 2011. Additionally, the Michigan GOP's Policy Committee is slated to make a decision on Tuesday, July 12th. Their vote will recommend to the full State Committee which process should be followed in Michigan regarding selecting the GOP's nominee by Michigan Republicans and possibly the general public. However, many feel that we have not yet had an open and transparent process to solicit the opinions of grassroots activists and concerned Republicans across the state.
Therefore, concerned citizens, MIGOP State Committee members, and grassroots activists are being invited to voice their opinion in a series of town-hall style forums. (Details on the Kent County event follow the break.)

First of all, I want to heap lavish praise on Governor-elect Rick Snyder for splitting the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Environmental Quality. In my view, when the state legislature approved the combination of the DNR with the DEQ, it bottle-necked the permit process and lent to the nearly 1,000 day wait for eventual denial of the permit. At the time, state lawmakers were giddy with the notion that they were helping "streamline" government by combining the two departments. One of our Republican state lawmakers was a facebook friend of mine back then, and beneath her ecstatic status update that trumpeted the great news, I commented, "But, doesn't this mean that when we try to extract our natural resources, any industry will be shut down due to environmental concerns? It seems to me that this is a windfall for the radical environmentalists." That comment was deleted very quickly, but I still think it's true. I thought it was foolhardy to trust Granholm's bureaucracy especially after all the studying I did about the Wolverine Clean Energy Venture and how the Granholm administration worked hand in hand with the Sierra Club and other radical groups. If you don't think the Sierra Club is a radical environmental group, you have not seen what happened here in Rogers City. So now that Snyder has said the two departments will be split, it is along that line that I call on Governor-Elect Rick Snyder to review the permit to install for Wolverine Clean Energy Venture. A critical choice will be made tomorrow by many voters in this once-great state; some voters, in fact, have already made their choice. Regardless of which county, township, or municipality you live in, every voter in the State of Michigan will have the opportunity to vote in the Gubernatorial Primary Election. This is a big deal. Michigan has suffered for the past seven and a half years under executive leadership that is most charitably described as incompetent; whom we elect this time will either guide us out of the hole we're in, or dig us deeper into it.
The general consensus, on these pages as well as statewide, is that a republican governor will serve Michigan better than a Democrat. Given that the epic failures of Governor "protobama" Granholm have been on national display, this is not surprising. However, there has been considerable disagreement as to precisely which republican candidate would be the best choice. Personally, I took my time making up my mind, not settling on a choice until about two weeks ago. For the record, the polling didn't drive my decisions . . . I actually did my own research. What follows "below the fold" are strictly my personal opinions and conclusions based on that research.

Many of you have been regulars for years on RightMichigan.com. There are reasons you come here. For some, it might be to catch up on what is happening in the state politically, and perhaps even to get a conservative's view on the daily events affecting us in Michigan politics and social realm. Nick De leeuw built a pretty good sounding board for conservatives across the state, and real policy and decisions have been made as a result of news and opinion made here. And his writing up until a few months back was sought out by most who visited. His reasoning pretty well considered, and he has generally demonstrated sound conservative principles.
Nick's opinion is a trusted one. And I hope my own carries some weight as well. We had both agreed early on, that three Republican candidates, Bouchard, Cox, and Hoekstra would be worthy candidates and would likely make great governors. The primary had promise to produce at least one great result, and that result being a truly Republican governor for the state of Michigan. To be sure, each candidate has weaknesses, either in policy or perhaps a personal area, but nothing that has not been overcome with either explanation, a recant, or apology. "To err is human, to forgive, divine," and we move on. As this is a primary, and only one of these fine gentlemen who represent Republican principles can be Governor at a time, RightMichigan.com writers and readers alike have done due diligence, and decided whom they will back. Nick and I both looked at many different points of strength the candidates have. Conservative values, commitment of service, ability to rally support, and overall electability in the general election. On balance, we both came to the same conclusion, and have been supporters of Mike Cox in his bid to be Michigan's top executive. Nick was serious enough to work for the Cox campaign directly. It comes at a cost. (49 comments, 1971 words in story) Full Story By Kevin Rex Heine, Section News
Much has been said on this site (frequently on the front page) in strong support of Mike Cox, Michigan's current Attorney General and one of five Republican candidates for Governor. If one of those politically disengaged folks that I talked about in an earlier essay were to view this site, such an individual might conclude that Mr. Cox were the leading candidate on the GOP side of the ballot this primary season. A sound thought, perhaps, but also dead wrong; and a dangerous conclusion in any event.
We here in the Grand Rapids field offices have some "undercover operatives" in Dem-friendly organizations in our area (Central-West Michigan). According to what they're passing on to us, Michigan Democrat Party wants Cox as the GOP nominee. That's because they have a fairly thick dossier of dirt on our current AG . . . and they will use that file to full advantage in the general. In fact, Mike Cox is a potential Republican gubernatorial nominee that Brewer's crew is convinced that they can beat, because there are problems with the man some view as Michigan's answer to Rod Blagojevich that haven't surfaced much on RightMichigan.

As you know, I am a supporter of Mike Cox for governor. Why I am is based on a number of issues, but as previously mentioned a primary one is his ability to stand on an issue as a matter of principle, no matter the initial popularity of it. We are a better state for his involvement in issues such as race, public safety, over reaching insurance non profits, and to be sure, one that is close to many hearts.. the right to life.
So I was pleased to hear a really great radio ad the other day by the Michigan Right To Life PAC. The Michigan Right To Life PAC explains why it has selected only ONE candidate to endorse, why that candidate is Mike Cox. As an aside, it is interesting to contrast the explanation provided by RTL of MI to that of the NRA when it provides cover for its endorsements. (Of course I use the word 'cover' to describe NRA endorsements, because they often shoot themselves by hawking BAD legislators and politicos with a unique single mindedness) The Right To Life Pac in its ad, actually uses its weight to suggest people consider the alternate outcome that could result which is quite contrary to their goals. But not in this case from the election of a 'typical' supporter of abortion on demand usually sponsored by the Democrat party.. read on..
