Tag: Endorsements (page 2)By Corinthian Scales, Section Multimedia
A new turn of events on this?
"I am honored to receive the endorsement of the OCDP because it represents the faith that so many Oakland County Democrats have in the strength of our campaign," Benson said. "I intend to continue the journey toward the Democratic convention this August and hope to affirm their faith in me and the progressive agenda for election reform I represent for Michigan." Bart Stupak was one of the first congress critters to self destruct and became quite toxic when voting for the Obamacare plan that does indeed provide a mechanism where babies can be slaughtered in the womb with payment by taxpayers. He betrayed the trust of his constituents, a decidedly right to life community of Upper Peninsula and Northern Lower Michiganders.
Stupaks betrayal came at a cost. He realized quickly enough that his upcoming campaign was probably a lost cause, and announced his decision to not run for reelection April 9, 2010. In fact, many of those critters still pursuing the dream of perpetual political payoff through a lifetime of "service" are realizing they "stepped in it," and are currently running back home shaking off their jackboots so maybe it doesn't stink so much come November 2nd. The spell apparently has been broken, and the realization that overstepping constitutional authority might come at a cost. They are pretending THEY didn't support the health care plan... though they might have voted for it.. another case of what "is.. is.." perhaps. They have gained new smarts as judgment day approaches in a month from now. ~ more below ~ (479 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
As you know, I am a supporter of Mike Cox for governor. Why I am is based on a number of issues, but as previously mentioned a primary one is his ability to stand on an issue as a matter of principle, no matter the initial popularity of it. We are a better state for his involvement in issues such as race, public safety, over reaching insurance non profits, and to be sure, one that is close to many hearts.. the right to life.
So I was pleased to hear a really great radio ad the other day by the Michigan Right To Life PAC. The Michigan Right To Life PAC explains why it has selected only ONE candidate to endorse, why that candidate is Mike Cox. As an aside, it is interesting to contrast the explanation provided by RTL of MI to that of the NRA when it provides cover for its endorsements. (Of course I use the word 'cover' to describe NRA endorsements, because they often shoot themselves by hawking BAD legislators and politicos with a unique single mindedness) The Right To Life Pac in its ad, actually uses its weight to suggest people consider the alternate outcome that could result which is quite contrary to their goals. But not in this case from the election of a 'typical' supporter of abortion on demand usually sponsored by the Democrat party.. read on.. Recently many of you might have heard about the possibility of the NRA actually endorsing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid over the Republican (Tea Party) Candidate, Sharon Angle. Surprisingly, the rumor might have some weight to it, and even though Reid's overall record has been anti second amendment, they would still offer him as a possible candidate for their (sometimes) coveted approval.
A by-his-very-nature anti 2nd amendment guy over a NATURAL 2nd amendment candidate? They have a reason, but sadly they have quite contradictory reasoning to apply it. Lets look at a local endorsement they had given. In October 2008, Stupak received the endorsement of the NRA, which has repeatedly shown favoritism for entrenched politicians vs. their opposition candidates, and risking the "Ire" of the likely winning incumbents. Remember this, as we read more... below the fold. (10 comments, 1572 words in story) Full Story By pauldpeterson, Section News

A big boost for the Mike Cox campaign came in with a nod from the Michigan Chamber of Commerce as reported in yesterday's Detroit News:
Republican Attorney General Mike Cox picked up some instant credibility in his bid for governor Tuesday when the Michigan Chamber of Commerce announced it will endorse him. And just a few days ago, Cox received the much welcomed support of Former Gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos and his wife Betsy, who said: "As a lifelong Republican activist and former State Party Chairman, I have witnessed Mike Cox fight for conservative values with the courage of his convictions" With Dick Devos adding:
"Mike Cox has demonstrated, consistently, the toughness required of a CEO leading a troubled organization through a turnaround," Though endorsements are no guarantee of forthcoming win, a lot can be said for the ability of these high profile organizations and individuals throwing their support to one candidate over another in a field populated by many good people. The MEA has a problem.
People are starting to wake up to the fact that the MEA represents the fourth highest paid teachers in the country. (in a state that ranks near the bottom for average wages otherwise) Further, that the current contracts are time bombs. Add to this, the public realization of what the MEA "re-packages" as insurance is merely a BCBS policy with a 25% profit for the union built in reinforces a growing sentiment that this public sector union in particular is bad business for Michigan. And THAT is bad news for the MEA. So bad, they need a plug to stop the inevitable leak in the money pipe from Lansing to the highly paid MEA infrastructure. Bad enough to look for a place to put a controlling hand that nods his head, and makes him bow, and has him sign on the dotted line when told. And Andy Dillon wasn't THAT GUY.
