    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Early Adoption And Coffee Time

    In a press release from the Mi News Wire, it appears the Michigan State Police are attempting to make the streets a whole lot safer.

    The release starts:

    QR codes (quick response) are the latest "tech"-nique to curb drunk driving by helping motorists easily find a safe, sober ride home. Hundreds of bars and restaurants in Michigan will be serving drinks on coasters featuring the specially designed code. Using a smartphone app to scan the code, users will be provided with a phone list of local cab companies.*

    The QR code is meant to appeal to tech-savvy young adults who are more likely to own smartphones than adults as a whole. In 2010, men represented nearly 80 percent of drinking drivers in alcohol-involved fatal crashes. Of those male drivers, nearly 40 percent were men 21 to 34 years old. Statistics indicate men are arrested for drunk driving at a rate of nearly three to every one woman in Michigan.

    "The goal, always, is to encourage motorists to be safe and responsible when behind the wheel," said Michael L. Prince, director of the Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP). "The coasters are meant to reinforce this important message."

    With the help of the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association (MLBA), the coasters have been distributed to more than 500 members in locations where cab service is readily available.

    Wow!  That is pretty cool!  In fact, I am amazed at how the new technology can be used in so many different ways.  And this QR code stuff is something we use for our own business, and have incorporated on our signs.

    The MSP have incorporated a way to enhance their donut shop time and get drunk drivers off the road. But its not in the way this story starts.  ~ Below the fold ~
