Buddy, have you got $327-million?By KG One, Section News
Detroit's got some problems.
Many of you will be quick to say, "Well, what was your first clue?" This is going a little beyond that, including some disturbing comments from Lansing leaders on how to address their latest problem.

At a meeting in Downtown Detroit, Michigan Schools Superintendent Mike Flanagan spoke before SEMCOG and the Metropolitan Affairs Coalition about the DPS's latest debacle: a $327-million deficit.
Responding to comments made my Community <strike>agitator</strike> Organizer Malik Shabazz, Superintendent Flanagan said:
"...the state can't expect the $327-million deficit to be completely resolved "on the local dollar." I'm sorry? Tell me again why this deficit is the responsibility of anyone from outside of Detroit? It's because of those nasty state takeovers that have left Detroit is bad financial shape. Obviously Mr. Shabazz and those who think like him never thought about looking in the mirror for a change. This coming from a city that, among other things, recently (and knowingly) elected a functional illiterate to the Detroit School Board. Sorry, but my "Give a Damn" is in the shop. I see these comments made by a state bureaucrat as yet another facet of Gov. Snyder's plan that Jason had mentioned last Saturday. That didn't get very far off the ground here. I doubt it will anywhere else, either. It's time for a new direction. Gov. Snyder was more than willing to perpetuate the status quo with his Detroit-only tax hikes, and now we've got someone else hinting at more money being thrown the rat hole? What does it take for him and his acolytes to realize that they're not solving anything, only merely delaying the inevitable. We need a leader to reach down deep and have the wherewithall to tell Detroit that they're cut off from our wallets. It won't be easy nor will it be pretty. But the best thing that can be done here is to just let the system collapse on its own. Find out those responsible for making the decisions that led the district to this point and give them an all expense paid trip to the county jail. Have AG Schuette bring them up on the appropriate charges. The state can then go in again and reorganize the district. Or, you can continue to prop up the status quo?
It's time to choose.
