Remember last year when the Michigan Carpenter's Union used the "bannering" tactic against a contractor in Grand Rapids?
Well, they are at it again. Young's Automotive Group in Lansing is building a new dealership on South Pennsylvania in Lansing. All but two contractors on this building site are union, yet the union is "protesting" outside of their current Kia dealership on South Cedar St. with a big banner stating Young's is engaging in "unfair labor practices". The men that are holding up the banner are........non-union, unemployed residents of the local homeless shelter. A little more below
It just so happens that my truck is in Young's Service Dept. for maintenance and repair and we stopped to pick it up last night. The service manager said they have had an uptick in traffic on the sales end due to the "show in front" and the feedback has been very negative against the union bannering tactic. Especially in light of the fact that out of 18 contractors on the job only 2 are non-union and of those two one is the landscaper. Is there a landscaper's union out there that I have not heard of?
Even though Michigan is heavily laden in the union mentality - this really takes the cake.
