    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Karen Jacobsen to Challenge 85-year-old Socialized Medicine Legacy Zealot

Joined by a large group of enthusiastic supporters at her home in Dearborn, Karen Jacobsen  announced her campaign for Michigan's new 12th Congressional District against John Dingell.

"As a mother, I am concerned about my daughter's future, and the future of her generation. As an Accountant and Business Owner, I am concerned about the future of our economy. I can no longer sit on the sidelines and just watch."
    ....

"Voters have a clear choice. If you believe our government is too big, that deficit spending is out of control and that career politicians no longer work for us, then I ask for your support. Our window of opportunity to reverse the course of this country is at a crisis point. If unchecked, Washington will continue to spend, borrow, tax, and print worthless pieces of paper. We have to stop this. I am running for Congress to tackle the most difficult problems facing our country. My campaign is about arming the people of Michigan with new information, new ideas and offering them the opportunity to elect a real advocate who will represent them in Washington."

To be exact, for Socialized Medicine to "control the people" it legislatively took the Dingell Dynasty from 1943 to March 23, 2010 to be accomplished.

Remember 2010 folks, John and Debbie Dingell directly profited from the Auto Bailout...

A Republic ... If You Can Keep It

So said Benjamin Franklin in response to our created nation.  No words could be more timely than today.

A state lawmaker wants Michigan to join the trend of states banning "foreign laws," but Muslim activists say the effort is a thinly veiled attack on Islam.

Rep. Dave Agema, R-Grandville, is pushing a bill to bar the implementation of foreign laws. It doesn't mention Sharia -- Islamic law -- but he acknowledged it would be prohibited in courts under the legislation intended to prevent anyone "who tries to shove any foreign law down our throats."

"No foreign law shall supersede federal laws or constitution or state laws or constitution," Agema said. "Our law is our law. I don't like foreign entities telling us what to do."

Agema said his bill would protect the "vast majority" of Muslims, whom he contended "come to this country to get away from Sharia."

But, is that really what the muhammadans want?

Walberg comments on the debt ceiling debate

Washington, DC- As negotiations over the issue of debt and spending continue, Congressman Tim Walberg released the following statement:

"The President's stubborn insistence on raising taxes during a tough economic time is wrongheaded.  We are still in the midst of one of the worst recessions in a generation because of the government's constant threat of the trifecta of higher taxes, excessive regulations, and runaway spending.  Last week's Labor Department report showed more than 14 million Americans are unemployed, the highest number this year, and many are asking where are the President's promised jobs.   Mr. President, I have the answer, and it's found in releasing the constraints on the American people and their exceptionalism.  Tax increases cost jobs.  A serious proposal to get our economy back on track cannot include more taxes for jobs to be created."

The highest number of unemployed.  In the middle of the summer.  Yet Obama thinks he is holding the cards.  Frankly, I am afraid some of our congressmen believe the same, but so far have held on with pressure from home.

So what happens if the debt ceiling is not increased? Why is it important to expand our debt even further to promote a feeling of solvency?  Why is black white, up down, and slow fast?

    How about it experts?

MI Senators Still Fence Sitting on Backdoor Cap and Trade Regulations

As if an unemployment rate above 11 percent wasn't enough for hard hit Michigan folks and businesses to handle, proposed Environmental Protection Agency regulations of greenhouse gases are now poised to offer yet another blow to our hard hit economy. And the effects don't look so very pretty.

Despite having cap and trade legislation rejected by elected officials and the American public last year, the recalcitrant Obama administration is going ahead with similar measures through blunt regulatory decree. The current Republican Policy Committee has now warned that the proposed rules are "more costly than (cap and trade) legislation."

So what does that mean for our state?

By 2030, Michigan jobs will decrease by about 66,000, economic output will deteriorate by an alarming $12.1 billion, and our 5,178 schools and universities and 187 hospitals could see a 28.2% to 42.0% increase in energy costs, which will likely be passed to taxpayers and patients. Luckily, SOME of our elected officials are trying to wake the Obama Administration before they impose this regulatory nightmare on the nation.

But whom?  For Michigan's future, it seems we have to rely on help from a little further South.

    So South we go.

    Governor Snyder: Reinventing... Role Models?

I honestly have not seen a more counterproductive governor leading this state since Blanchard and Granholm.  Yes, Governor Snyder is still calling for immigrants to come to this state of now extended unemployment benefits that Lansing has been paying out to illegal aliens.

Sen. Mike Kowall, R-White Lake, praised the bill for cracking down on unemployment fraud, noting a recent auditor general report that cited overpayments, uncollected penalties and millions paid to illegal aliens.

Yah, more impoverished added to the state population makes a helluva lot of sense to me.

But today, the Nerd donkey wearing elephant hide has my blood boiling.

Today's event is sponsored by nonpartisan community organizations including Muslims for a Better Michigan, the Council of Islamic Organizations of Michigan and the Council of American Islamic Relations of Michigan, among others.

Snyder began his address in Arabic, saying "Asalamalakum" or "Peace be upon you," the traditional Muslim greeting, and he thanked members of the Muslim community for their contributions to Michigan society and its economy.

"You've been a great role model for that, so I say thank you," Snyder said.

Oh really, Snyder?  Thank you?  Buddy, you do not speak for me.

    Matter of fact, that is...

cross posted at a shamelessly opportunistic Rougblog

That bunion won't be bothering you any more. However, we did have to chop that right foot off just below the elbow.

The Ludington Daily News is reporting today that the unemployment rate for its four county readership area has dropped significantly over the last year.

The local unemployment rates for November were:

        * 12.4 percent for Mason County, compared to 14.2 percent in 2009

        * 12.6 percent for Manistee County, compared to 13.8 in 2009

        * 14.5 percent for Oceana County, compared to 16.7 in 2009

        * 14.4 percent for Lake County, compared to 17.2 percent

These are huge differences even if the new numbers remain disastrously high. Mason's dropped 1.8 percent. Manistee's dropped 1.2 percent. Oceana's dropped 2.2 percent. And Lake County's unemployment rate plummeted a whopping 2.8 percent.

The bad news is that virtually all of these drops can be attributed to prospective employees bailing out on the local employment scene; they moved in search of a non-mythical job of today located elsewhere, or they simply fell off the local job seeking radar and are home watching The View.
