A vote for Medicaid expansion is a vote for Obamacare.
Today is expected to be a day where a vote could take place on HB4714. Today is the day where Republican senators around the state can throw sand in the eyes of those who entrusted them with power in 2010. The revolution which started in 2010 against the very thing for which they might vote.
The question to ask forever more is "how might someone actually call themselves Republican, or think they wear ANY badge of integrity by voting to grow government and expand dependency on it?" In 1996 Republicans in the US congress showed the executive branch the way by reducing dependency through 'workfare' and inserting SOME personal responsibility. Go for it. See what it truly gets you. In a 'garden party' hosted by the Leelanau Republican women, Michigan state senator Darwin Booher (R-35) clarified that he would NOT be voting for the Medicaid expansion bill being advanced by Governor Rick Snyder.
The garden party, held on Sunday at a local small business, was attended by Republican US Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land, State Senator Darwin Booher, State Representatives Ray Franz (R-101), Bruce Rendon (R-103), and other local politicians and interested citizens. Booher announced he "would not be voting for medicaid expansion" during a part of the program where elected officials and prospective candidates spoke. Booher has also spoken out against the "outrageous fine" levied on Mark Baker of Baker's acres for the heinous crime of trying to farm in Michigan. Call his office and thank him for his principled stand on these important issues. (1 comment) Comments >> By JGillman, Section Multimedia
Aside from the fact that Dave Camp refuses to defund Obamacare, there are many votes that suggest the current 4th district US Representative hasn't a clue what the constitution truly means.
Konetchy calls him out on a few things.
Its a David/Goliath battle brewing, and we hardly have to tell you which guy needs to wield the stone in a sling. However, these fights have a positive effect by forcing the incumbents to re-assess their records, and past behavior. Its why I like to see those who are in office ALWAYS face a primary challenge. Several things are happening that will shape the future of Michigan's political scene.
One particular item is that former US Senate candidate and conservative Republican Gary Glenn is seeking the 98th District House seat. As a result of the failure to lead by our elected congressional types, there is a need for stronger leadership in our state legislatures that Glenn seems to understand. "We have to get our government back to a more local level and do our best to dismantle this leviathan in Washington, D.C.," said Glenn. "I don't put a whole lot of faith in Congress to dismantle itself or the federal bureaucracy to do so, which is why I think we are going to need people of fortitude and conviction in state leadership positions who are going to wage that battle."True enough. There is no question that courage will be needed by state lawmakers to defend Michigan's sovereignty against an acceleration of federal power grabs. And the man who shepherded Idaho's Right-To-Work legislation into place, worked diligently on Michigan's freedom to work, as well as seeing Michigan's 2004 defense of Marriage act through is hardly a wimpy advocate of conservative principles. In the two videos below the fold, Gary talks of history, energy policy, tradition, family, and what was at the time, a hope that Michigan would become the next Right To Work state. And not without his help we saw that last part materialize late last year. (1 comment, 273 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
4th District Republicans will have a choice for the Republican nomination next year.
Peter Konetchy, a Republican from Roscommon in Michigan's 4thCongressional District, has announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives. He notes the failure of Camp's years in the US Congress to resolve a growing federal interference in our lives. "We no longer have the limited, constitutional government that was created to serve the needs of the states. Decades of federal interference have stifled our economic growth, forced our jobs overseas, bankrupted our nation, destroyed the financial security of our families, and severely eroded our personal freedoms. Unless we take corrective action now, we will lose the greatest nation ever conceived, wasted the blood of generations who fought to retain our liberties, and condemned our posterity to a life of financial and civic servitude."Hard to disagree with that. Konetchy takes aim on Camp in a number other points in his press release. (2 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
Oh yeah .. Joe has it.
The left needed a win last night to make them feel better about the drubbing Obama received at the hands of Mitt Romney a little more than a week earlier. The coaching advice for Joe Biden surely must have been to: "Be friendly, and kill em with smiles"Plenty of smiles. Buffoonery has no limit with Joe however, and it showed with the frequent interruptions and impolite treatment of his opponent Paul Ryan. The Donkeys that the Democrat-Socialist party produce for candidates lately are certainly bad enough in one-on-one debates and argumentative situations, but last night took the cake. Joe Biden interrupted Ryan 86 times to Ryan doing so to Biden 6. Add to this the moderator not able to control herself on occasion doing the same, with 2 or 3 times to Biden, and 12-14 to Ryan as he was making important points. All the time where Biden was not interrupting Ryan was spent grinning and laughing, as if to say "your message is laughable". In all the debates I have ever watched, I have yet to see such disrespect for the forum, the opponent, and the public which must wonder now if Uncle Joe had forgotten to take his meds. Paul Ryan presented himself with dignity and was clearly better informed as expected. Biden's behavior took away from any potential legitimate answers he could have offered. The victory for Ryan was more obvious than many in the media will concede, but it was a sorry event if only for its damage to the vetting process. The Obama Biden team might be embarrassed if ever possible. Click on the picture for the larger view. (5 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section Multimedia
The Republican party may be toast no matter the outcome of November's election.
The antics by rules committee folks to hold power in the hands of a certain few are designed to keep a succession scheme working. In Michigan, it was the DELEGATE scandal. In Tampa it was what we see in the following video.
There is an imperative to remove Obama. Voting for Mittens and Ryan will be the only way this happens for now. Mitt might well be a great president, and Ryan hold even greater promise to many. However, the power struggle within the party makes a great case for those who would think about crossing over and casting their not-Obama vote. It was stated clearly in a single tweet: "If this is how Republicans treat their own, what might we expect for independents and Democrats" Indeed. That video taped teleprompter was a Breitbart moment. It was the truth for all to see. And it shows an utter disregard for the grassroots and their efforts to bring this country back into some semblance of what it once was. The thought that Republican leadership would do the right thing now a faded idealistic notion. Conservatives apparently no longer have a welcoming home. And that fact might well spell the end of the GOP after 2012. (26 comments) Comments >>
