Candice got this one right. Well, partially right, up until she decided it's smart to start blathering for a Federal catastrophic fund to 'fleece' e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e into gummint subsidy.
Yessirree, it was Richard "I Never Met A Big Government Program That I Didn't Like" Nixon who mandated National Flood Insurance in 1973, further entangling folks to bureaucracy created floodplain schemes if you'd like a mortgage. So, who were the Michigan Republicans that kicked the fleecing can down the road? Benishek, Camp, Huizenga, McCotter, Rogers, Upton, and Walberg voting in lockstep with nanny government entitlement Democrats Clarke, Conyers, Dingell, Kildee, Levin, and Peters. And they still get their nose all out of joint with wondering why they end up in places like here? Go figure. Anywho, a 'shout out' thanks to Representative Amash, for the much appreciated consistency. Candice, nice try, but thanks for your NO vote anyway. Sunlight is the best disinfectant? Then let the sun shine, baby...
GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Calling Grand Rapids Community College "a cornerstone of our community for the past 96 years," Mayor George Heartwell is urging colleagues to pass a resolution of support for a millage that would ensure the school "can continue to serve their growing student population into the next century." So, what is the pay and benefit packages for GRCC employees compared to the private sector? Ya, it's the buildings being neglected in this 'shared sacrifice' equation alright.
Why 'ol Mayor Heartwell and Chief Walking Eagle would make perfect wealth redistributing bookends, yes? (1 comment) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
Yup.
All we ask for is a little honesty in the party. A little integrity. A little expectation that Republicans behave like Republicans. We simply believe that a man/woman's word is his/her bond, and at the very least that principles have SOME bearing on behavior, decision making, self control. Its not too much one wouldn't think. However, in the background, we are challenged as those who are pushing too hard on Republicans. The RightMichigan.com bunch has gone negative because we call out the bad. RightMichigan.com is turning Republicans off because they "don't recognize it anymore". And the current batch of writers needs to hit on the Democrats more, instead of the "10-1 assault on the GOP folks in power and in elected offices." I would submit we HAVE BEEN attacking Dems. We have been attacking lefties, liberals, liberal pursuits, and questioning conservatives when they stray. If they call themselves Republican, it seems the fraud should not be called on our end. But in the spirit of bringing together Republicans for a cause, let me at least stand up for a good man in the North, Dr. Dan Benishek. He needs your support right now, as the leftists line up and framing the energy issue out of place, attack the good that he has been a part of. As the Hard Core Democrat Agenda 21 FREAKS led by none other than former governor Milliken attack him in TV ads, he is being put at risk, and the congressional seat Republicans fought for in 2010 is at risk. But no worries. The troops are getting armed with counter propaganda.
The fact that the MiGOP leadership is in full blown damage control was evident from the 15 minute visit by a credential's committee member on Monday. To allow the argument that the post election rules change was not really a change, the video stood alone and unchallenged by our pens in the presentation. Of course what happens behind the scenes, and in other commentary is another matter entirely. Grand Traverse County was not the only place to get the visit, and the point was to get out the counter message to the story we have been telling here. And it is working for some. Honest, politically active women who were present for the explanation presented here took it to heart that no change was made. And the damage control measures are working to some extent. One particular event which demonstrated this was the visit by CD1 Dan Benishek, who came to Traverse City to officially announce his reelection, and introduce himself to the new section of the district that was expanded by the reapportionment. During a question and answer, Dr. Dan was asked by one woman: "How do you expect us to support you during reelection with all the backhanded dealings in the Michigan Republican leadership?" (paraphrased slightly) The question stumped the esteemed congressman, who went silent and staring for a period until rescued by two of those politically active advocates, who essentially said that Sharon explained it all so its not really that way. And then the Q&A was over. A job well done ladies. More below ~ (3 comments, 777 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
Grand Traverse County Commission Chair Larry Inman is likely to take on Dan Benishek for the 1st Congressional District of Michigan.
Citing the debt ceiling increase and Benishek's lack of community outreach during his first term, Inman says he and others are "concerned Benishek cannot hold the seat" against the Democrat backed McDowell in November 2012. Inman states he is pro life and is a fiscal conservative on the Vic McCarty radio program today. Inman formerly a banker with Huntington has been on the Grand Traverse County board for 20 years this year. A recent change in the county districts reduced the number of districts from 9 to 7 in the county, resulting in potential contests between sitting commissioners. Jason Gillman, and Larry Inman would have to face off in the August for the newly formed 6th district encompassing Acme Whitewater, and Parts of East Bay Townships. The final decision by Inman is expected some time mid month. (3 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
Obama Admin Takes Rent Seeking To A New Level.
I have been adding to this all week, and have tried to make it as concise as possible, but as more information became available, editing was required. Let me know if any clarification is needed. I wrote at the beginning of the month about the coal fired plant in Marquette being threatened by a new and extremely aggressive set of EPA rules. The shutdown of that plant of course would leave in question the future of paper mills, and the electrical needs of yoopers. At least the future of the cost being at all affordable. The jobs that would be lost as higher costs come to bear also joined by a literal health care crisis as fewer would be insured, and less money in the pockets of those Michiganders would encourage poorer health choices. Health, of course is the victim of the 'boogeyman' coal fired power industry. You've seen the ubiquitous American Lung Association "coughing baby" ads supporting the Obama EPA's push to shut down the coal industry, right? What might surprise you is that those ads are funded in part by Chesapeake Energy, the country's second-largest natural gas producer.
Coming amidst an impending decision by the EPA on the Utility MACT (maximum achievable control technology) rule that is expected to lead to job loses, plant shutdowns, and rolling blackouts across the country, this strange partnership raises a question. What does Chesapeake stand to gain, by pouring money into a seemingly disparate organization with extremely different objectives and priorities? Politico writes: The ads come as the coal industry is at war with the Obama administration over new rules to curb pollution from coal-fired power plants. The EPA is expected to issue new rules on Friday to curb air toxics from power plants, which are estimated to cost industry about $10.9 billion each year. Oh, so its an end-justifies-the-means kind of thing. Rent seeking. But when questioned, Chesapeake officials have stated that the flood of cash to ALA is merely business as usual for the company, which donates to "a wide variety and number of health and medical-related organizations. Well that's very responsible of them, bravo for being so charitable.

Let no one say all we do is kvetch. Positive steps forward will be recognized as such.
Washington, DC- Friday, Congressman Walberg issued the following statement after voting against H.R. 2055, the Conference Report to fund the federal government for the rest of the fiscal year. Thank you for your vote Representative Walberg. As you must now realize allowing the debt to increase will only make your job and the jobs of all American citizens harder in the years to come. Please continue to hold the line, and demonstrate the difference between the fiscally sane conservative Republican route, and the socially progressive fiscally insane Democrat rout of our constitutional government. And while you are at it pull along a few more. Reps Amash, Huizenga and McCotter joined Walberg in opposition to this funding resolution which passed 296-121 on the 16th. The wall of shame has served its purpose.
There isn't a Republican congressman who occupied its space who was not made aware of it often by supporters or those who wanted to put it in their face as a means of showing disapproval. The wall is now empty for the time being, yet the violation of principle must be acknowledged in a more permanent way. As a means of keeping more permanently the record of the occupiers and their decision to saddle our future with more debt, I am making it into a post (this post) that will be searchable forevermore. As I wrote: "This wall is not because we hate you guys, but because we respected and counted on you. Conservatives expect bad legislation out of progressives and the Democrats. Getting along just cannot cut it anymore. Shape up and "know your power." And now it resides below the line. There is still opportunity for those described here to self reflect. There is still time for those who are considering primaries to file and declare their principled ideas and solutions. Let the debate begin. (7 comments, 672 words in story) Full Story
