    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Schuette Promises Michigan Will Fight

At least ONE state official recognizes the danger of an activist high court.

In the decision striking down Certain DOMA sections, the court implied much but fell short of 'legalizing' same sex couplings as 'marriage' nationwide.  They cannot, and even as twisted as the court has become, the 'Overton Window' of sorts is not yet aligned with the court bringing outright infringements upon the states. (though Roberts came close with O-Care) However, the court DID refuse to hear the case regarding prop 8 in California, a move that signals to activists nationwide that same-sex bans need only make it to the nearest capitulating federal judge.

That judge can then override the will of the people in a state, and force a perverse application of reality on that state's citizens. And the high court will look the other way.

Attorney General Bill Schuette sees the writing on the wall and has responded:

As you may know, the Michigan Constitution defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman (Article 1, Section 25). This was placed in the constitution after being passed by the voters with 58% of the vote. And this language still stands in Michigan, unaltered by the United States Supreme Court's rulings yesterday.

One of those rulings unfolded due to a very odd twist. In the California case, the Supreme Court declined to hear the case because of a lack of standing. The upshot is that the Supreme Court's ruling left undisturbed a lower court ruling that overturned California's ban on gay marriage.

This situation came about because the California Attorney General refused to defend the law, even though voters in California had approved a definition of marriage as one man and one woman. And so, because the state's attorney general refused to defend the law, the law fell.

That will not happen in Michigan. My pledge to you as your Attorney General is that I will defend Michigan's Constitution and the vote of the people. That is the oath I took on the day I was sworn in, and it's an oath I uphold every day.

And we need more like you Mr AG.

And as an aside? The Supreme Court Of The United States can take their "standing" rule and shove it where the appendix begins.

We ALL have standing when the laziness of case law is the norm.

    Walberg Responds To SCOTUS Decision

Rep Tim Walberg (R-7) released the following statement after the Supreme Court's decisions on marriage:

"Today's decisions mean states will continue addressing this issue, but I am troubled by the Court's willingness to allow a district federal court to overrule the people of California who voted to define marriage as between one man and one woman. I remain of the principled belief that marriage should continue to stand for the union of a man and woman. The activist Supreme Court has decided that the desires of adults are more important than the needs of children and the orderly continuance of society. It's also disappointing the Court overruled the Defense of Marriage Act, which passed the legislative branch with bipartisan majorities and was signed into law by President Clinton.  I look forward to having both voters and their elected officials continuing to be engaged on this and many other issues before our democracy."
Marriage IS between a man and a woman.

    Period.

Because the Queers (Their label not mine) want to play house, adopt children to indoctrinate into their LIFESTYLE and get the benefits normal couples receive, this has been pushed. As for those benefits, our tax dollars being used to encourage a perverse and dangerous lifestyle is troubling.  It violates our freedom of conscience.  With the ruling, comes a claim to federal benefits for same sex couples recognized as being legally 'married'.

And our REPUBLICAN Governor is not willing to stand up for the state voters' referendum.

"The decisions just came down and they don't apply to Michigan. So the way I view it is, I'm going to follow what Michigan law is, and I'll keep track of what's going on in the federal courts," Snyder said.
.. until there is some money provided to make up for benefits of same sex (married) partners.

Ya know what?  I feel so safe knowing our governor is out there protecting the sovereignty of our state..  Right.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    DOMA Moregato SCOTUS

For adding to the illegitimacy of the nation's highest court.

Statement by Gary Glenn, president, American Family Association of Michigan:

Michigan's Marriage Protection Amendment remains in place, and marriage in Michigan remains only between one man and one woman, at least until the next lawyer in a black robe decides he has the power to overturn the vote of millions of Michigan citizens, including the two-thirds of black voters and two-thirds of union households who voted in favor of that amendment.

We regret that the court upheld the decision of one openly homosexual judge to overturn the vote of millions of California voters, including 70 percent of black voters in that state, to define marriage as only between one man and one woman.

We also regret the court's opinion on the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which was enacted with overwhelming bipartisan majorities and signed into law by President Clinton.  Five unelected lawyers purport to overturn the vote of hundreds of the people's elected representatives in Congress and the White House.

Mitt Romney Urged Obama to Embrace the Individual Mandate

Had Michigan not been as close, the Democrats would have waited to spring this on us in the general election. Luckily we have it now and I hope Ohio voters are paying attention.

In July 2009, Mitt Romney wrote an op-ed in USA Today urging Barack Obama to use an individual mandate at the national level to control healthcare costs.

On the campaign trail now, Mitt Romney says the individual mandate is appropriate for Massachusetts, but not the nation. Repeatedly in debates, Romney has said he opposes a national individual mandate.

    Rest here

And the MI-GOP Leadership threw away their credibility over him?  Losers.

Here's a hint for ya Willard, Blunt- RUBIO !!!!!!

Now, read the lame walk back from a guy that's been campaigning for 5 years:

"I didn't understand his question; of course I support the Blunt amendment," Romney said on the Howie Carr Show. "I thought he was talking about some state law that prevented people from getting contraception, so I was simply -- misunderstood the question, and of course I support the Blunt Amendment."

He's tripping over himself so badly in fear of his religion coming under scrutiny in the this election it's sickening.  Obama/Axelrod is going to have a field day in the general if the Repub establishment succeeds with their chosen son.

For record, the Democrats blocked Blunt today.

"Did you notice in Lebanon, what Hezbollah did? Lebanon became a democracy some time ago and while their government was getting underway, Hezbollah went into southern Lebanon and provided health clinics to some of the people there, and schools. And they built their support there by having done so."

Gee, America thanks you, Elder Jihad-Mitt.  Obviously Romney has chosen the appropriate Wingman this primary too.  With folk like Romney and Paul in the GOP working for this, what could possibly go wrong?  I'm absolutely positive that between their efforts we can Kumbaya Musloids into submission.  Ya, that's the ticket.

    Sleep tight...

During the trip, the Boston Globe reported, Romney's oldest son, Tagg, looked around through the rear window and yelled, "Dad -- gross!" A brown liquid was dripping down the back window -- diarrhea from an animal that just might have been caused by the stress of being inside a cage for 12 hours on top of a car going 60 mph.

And what did Romney do, even after knowing of the dog's diarrhea? Did he realize that perhaps Seamus should be shown some mercy, cleaned up and allowed in the car, to sleep on someone's lap?
