Michigan has been diminished. Its population decimated by a combination of poor leadership in Washington, and an eight year plague in the executive office in Lansing. The economy here has been so bad, that even the illegal immigrants have been loathe to join us in our demise. Michigan's traditional resilience has not held up to past benchmarks, and has chased more of those migrant job seekers away with its oppressive business climate preventing new job creation.
Indeed, even the illegals understood that Michigan offered little hope, and was not the place to settle and raise a little anchor family. [cue little house on the prairie theme] So they packed up their tukes, loaded up the covered wagons, and either returned over the international bridge or moved further south to other more welcoming states, ignoring their queen, our governor's pleas of "just hang on," and "the blown away part is coming." They left us for greener pastures, in a quest for survival. Other states host these 'immigrants' quite splendidly, offering both employment opportunities and even sanctuary for those weary travelers who know no international boundaries and respect no rule of law. And by golly we are sorry to see them ..not here. And then we lose a seat in Congress. (14 comments, 876 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section Multimedia
Dr. David Janda Explains how we have been had.

Tomorrow is a big day.
Tomorrow, October 20 2010, Congressman John Dingell Faces Dr. Rob Steele of Ann Arbor in a Debate at Monroe Community College's La-Z-Boy Center. It is scheduled for 6:30-7:30 p.m. Congress' most senior legislator John Dingell faces the culmination of his life's work. He will get to defend the utter failure that is socialism. He will have to argue successfully, that Socialism has brought about good things for the area he represents. One must ask, how bright was the South Eastern part of the great state of Michigan in 1955 when Dingell first became a congressman, and what parts of his political philosophy has brought about the success he sees now? Should he first identify what he has personally done, or perhaps highlight the great achievements that have improved life for Michiganders who have entrusted him in Washington with their welfare? Indeed success speaks for itself, he might declare. And perhaps how Detroit has grown to become the shining jewel of the nation, and Michigan's manufacturing has grown to be the envy of the world, and indeed how such wonderful opportunity abounds! If it was true. (9 comments, 512 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
Its been argued that a trend is more important than the ACTUAL polling numbers when looking at political contests. Here in Michigan, a 20 point move in opinion might have dire consequences for the longest serving congressman who once scolded a debate opponent by saying "I knew King George.. You sir are NO King George!"
John Dingell, who was 20 points up as close as a mere month ago now lags opponent Dr. Rob Steele of Ann Arbor by a few points: "Dingell, the House's longest-serving member, is trailing the Ann Arbor cardiologist 39.5 to 43.8 with 11 percent undecided, signaling a statistical tie in a race that was once considered safe territory for Democrats," reports The News. "The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.6 percent." Record scratch insertion unnecessary.. Grab the fainting pillow. Sometimes however, miracles can use a little help. I imagine a little support for the last few weeks would help to keep the trend in the RIGHT direction would help. And maybe just a little prayer. (5 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
From The Rob Steele Campaign:
A debate is scheduled for October 20. The scheduled debate will take place at the Monroe Community College's La-Z-Boy Center. It will be run from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. The doors open at 5:45pm.
Says DR Steele:
Indeed.. I wonder if Mr Dingell will bother reading any notes before participation in this.. The Rob Steele for Congress campaign has accepted debate requests from the Southern Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Chamber of Commerce. Outside of public posturing, there has been no official response of acceptance or refusal from the Dingell for Congress campaign. Since the United States House of Representatives has adjourned for the remainder of the campaign there is no longer an excuse for the Dingell campaign to refuse these other debate requests.
