    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

The mayor is welcoming word that the state plans to dedicate $25 million toward blight elimination efforts across Michigan, including $10 million in the city.
    ....

Legislation passed Wednesday lists how the state will spend its $97 million share of a national settlement with banks over faulty foreclosure processes. According to the state attorney general's office, $10 million of the $25 million for anti-blight efforts would be allocated for use in Detroit.

Yup.  Another $97.2M crock of theft by our 2010 Majority.  $20M for "counseling"?  WTF?!?!

This Wednesday refocuses our attention on House watching, looking for signs of Bolger and company rolling over for Gov Snydholm wanting his Exchange.

"There's a push, obviously, to set up an exchange There is a separate push - if we don't set one up - that we start some of the planning process," Adler said. "And then there is a lot of pressure to delay things a little longer. We are receiving a lot of feedback with a lot of different ideas."

Tread cautiously on that, Lansing GOP .. your vote could very well result in your own Stupak moment.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

Action Request - Obamacare Health exchanges

As you know, following the ruling by the US Supreme court Rick Snyder wasted no time in calling for the creation of the health exchanges:
"The Republican governor said in a statement that he didn't agree with everything in the law, which he says doesn't focus enough on promoting wellness and restraining health care costs. But he wants to work quickly to set up Michigan's online marketplace so the state "can make decisions regarding what will be covered as opposed to Washington, D.C., making those decisions for us."
Wasting no time, Snyder is ready to feed Michiganders to the federal wolves.

AG Schuette on the other hand has indicated it is unacceptable, and even called for a wait and see until AT LEAST November:

"Today's decision raises the stakes - does the reach of federal government have any limits at all?  If the federal government can force you to purchase a product or pay a hefty fine, there is virtually no limit to what it can compel you to do.

"I will carefully review all aspects of this ruling.  Today's opinion only strengthens my resolve to work with other national leaders to repeal ObamaCare and fight for and defend the Constitution."

His official statement on the MI.gov website

And from his press statement following the ruling, he said:

"I think it would be wiser for our policy leaders in this state to wait until November, that's the final decision break point on this healthcare debate."
    It truly is.

In the mean time we have work to do.

As Mitch McConnel pointed out quite accurately:

"The Kentucky Republican said Monday it's hard to unravel something of the magnitude of the 2,700-page health care law, WHAS-TV (http://bit.ly/LSUtqX ) reports.

"If you thought it was a good idea for the federal government to go in this direction, I'd say the odds are still on your side," McConnell said. "Because it's a lot harder to undo something than it is to stop it in the first place."

And Snyder wants to rush rush rush.

Speaker Jase Bolger needs your help.  He needs your support to hold off on allowing any movement on the exchange until we are absolutely sure this monstrosity has been jammed down our throats forever. Call him: (517) 373-1787 or email him: JamesBolger@house.mi.gov and tell him we have his back.

Then Call Bill Schuette's office and thank him for being strong in the face of incredible political pressure by the governor's office.  Phone: (517) 373-1110, and email: miag@michigan.gov

    Strength must be rewarded.

    Stupidity must be painful.

    Wait Until November

Mr Bolger, with regard to the new health care exchange, listen to the next Governor.
"I think it would be wiser for our policy leaders in this state to wait until November, that's the final decision break point on this healthcare debate."

In other words, take your time.

And a side note on the question of WHOM is to be running the exchange?  Name three or four of the current governor's best friends, and you will be pretty close. If they are not currently, then they are soon-to-be, as it will involve vast amounts of money.

Let me remind the house leaders of testimoney they heard earlier this year (Below the fold)

Attorney General Bill Schuette on yesterday's decision by the nation's highest court.

One thing Bill.  It not only raises the stakes in November, but rather going forward, we MUST have solidly conservative persons in decision making positions.

Remember this now, and again in 2014.

No joke.  Dick Posthumus' decade old Lt. gov running mate just announced he's going write-in.

Yannow, with all the light that is being shined on the incumbent mentality within the Party establishment, they really are starting to make the AGW zealots and Earth Day kooks look a lot less insane by comparison.

This is all the more reason why I'd vote for Kerry Bentivolio.

Send Kerry a few jingle$ if you can, folks.  The Party is stacking the deck against him.

It's either fraud or massive incompetence and either one should be fatal running for Congress

Attaboy, Mike.  That's the "rules matter" Jarhead that folk like and respect.

    via The Detroit News

"No one has heard of anything so over the top before," echoed former Republican Attorney General Mike Cox. He added: "To have really overt massive potential fraud is really very unusual."

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson's office had turned over preliminary findings to Attorney General Bill Schuette's office, which won't comment. But Cox said investigators have tools working in their favor -- a stack of paper evidence, names and signatures of circulators and the power of an investigative subpoena to compel circulators to talk.

"Ruth and Bill are going to have to go to where the facts go, whether that leads them to (McCotter's staff) or to Thad," said Cox, who said he won't run as a write-in for the McCotter seat. He said his family and the McCotters are close, but now he is for "anybody but Thad."

    ...

But for nominating petition fraud, the sanctions spelled out in Michigan's election law are misdemeanors.

Someone who signs another's name on a petition, makes a false statement, or signs a petition as a circulator who is not faces up to a $500 fine and 93 days in jail.

Additionally, if the candidate or a petition circulator knew of such petition fraud and didn't report it to authorities, he is guilty of misdemeanor punishable by up to a $500 fine and one year imprisonment, under the law.

    Rest here

Isn't that just lovely?  Bottom line: We have a smarmy, career DC politico doofus from his specially redrawn District-11 who is now wasting our tax dollars on a misdemeanor witch-hunt that he is responsible for creating.

    Thanks, Thad.

    Schuette Squashes Illegal Scheme

Attorney General Orders Home Health Dues Skim to End

Illegal scheme continued despite law explicitly stating providers are not government employees

MIDLAND -- Michigan's 60,000 home health care aides should no longer have so-called union dues skimmed from their subsidy checks as a result of an informal but binding opinion letter issued today by Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette. The opinion was issued in response to a request by Rep. Paul Opsommer, R-DeWitt, six weeks after Gov. Rick Snyder signed legislation ending the stealth unionization. The Service Employees International Union has taken some $30 million from the state's most vulnerable residents over the last six years, including more than $680,000 since the scheme was outlawed.

"This episode demonstrates how government-sector unions often act in ways that benefit themselves at the cost of taxpayers and their shanghaied members," said Mackinac Center Legal Foundation Director Patrick J. Wright. "The independent contractors and family members who provide aid to the developmentally disabled were never government employees and should not have been paying dues in the first place."

The SEIU was able to skim the so-called "dues" under a scheme that was concocted during the administration of Gov. Jennifer Granholm. An interlocal agreement between the Department of Community Health and the Tri-County Aging Consortium allowed for the creation of the Michigan Quality Community Care Council, which served as the shell employer for people who are actually self-employed independent contractors or, overwhelmingly, family members caring for loved ones.
